Shiny, I started at about the same weight as you, and I'm currently close to the same weight as you are (110). I noticed I lost a LOT of weight all at once when I first started, with the same feeling you have...that it wasn't even a struggle. Coincidentally, I had the dosage on my thyroid meds adjusted. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I bet it does in my case but I wonder about yours.

Shiny- I do find that to be the case. It seems like I will be stuck at a certain weight, then drop a lot all at once- then be stuck again. I have never heard the science behind this- it would be interesting to know. It's nice to hear from you Jennifer.

I've dropped 3 pounds since Monday- I knew part of it was just bloat, but that still feels nice. I bought some new jammie bottoms and wore them to bed last night and they are loose this morning. Reminds me of when the kids were babies and hit a growth spurt. They would go to bed in a footie sleeper that fit, and by morning the snaps were popping open.

Vani- during stressful times I just concentrate on maintaining. That is it's own challenge.

Nanne- don't be too hard on yourself. You still lost weight, and changing habits *is* really difficult.

I am not only holding the line - I dropped yet another pound. Without trying. I am not even running. And, I'm not depressed anymore. It's like something has clicked in and my brain knows instinctively when to put the fork down. It's not a struggle, I'm not starving, not having cravings, not deliberately dieting... I am guessing it is some sort of biochemical that has kicked in? There must be some science around this...

This has happened to me in the past. Has anyone experienced this? It seems my body has certain weight ranges it likes, and that somehow I'll magically drop pounds once I breakthrough a certain number.

Specifically, I was in the 115-118 range for months. But, once I broke through to 114 and stayed consistently there for awhile, it now seems my weight is racing to a new low (I am at 111 this week). If it's like my past experiences, I'll wind up somewhere around 108-110 again, and stay there for awhile. But if I gain weight and stay at 115 for awhile, my body will want to creep up and up...

No change here too Khris, but I've learnt to accept that as good too as long as there is no movement in the opposite direction. The last few weeks and the coming months are going to be hectic (in-laws are on a long vacation and will be here the next 3 months). I've decided to not worry about hitting the gym but start running in the morning. I'll keep you posted on my progress

Itari - thanks, and you're right I'm not really unhappy with the fact that I didn't lose much weight, though, it's more about being slightly disappointed with my self for making some bad decisions, like eating all that chocholate just because I felt sad. Comfort eating is a habit that's really difficult to change!

Not a great success this time - I weighed in yesterday at 71, 5 kilograms, which indicates a weight loss of 0,1 kilograms. I weighed again this morning just to check, and was down to 71,3 kilograms, so somewhere between 0,1 and 0.3 kilograms. And this is despite working out twice the previous week, although I guess scoffing down a big bar of chocholate on Friday didn't actually help....At least I haven't put on weight, but I'll try to do better this week.

Ok, I weighed in at home and I'm still hovering at the same weight before last week's little bump in the road. I am happy I haven't gained but getting frustrated that I'm not losing. A calorie adjustment is probably in order, but it's going to be tough. I'm already finding it hard as it is. But I'm just 5 pounds away from my goal...

Khris & Melissa - thanks for your consideration. Yes, it's definitely a huge change of my whole lifestyle and attitude. Actually, trying to be more fashion-conscious is a part of it... some kind of self-healing, I suppose. My diet is very healthy and I feel way better now. Maybe someday I'll even like my body and embrace my curves.

Can I join in here? I love hearing about where you're all at and feel like it is so helpful to get all of these different perspectives on this issue.

I've been wanting to do something about my weight and doing nothing for years. Recently, I am learning to cope with a nonserious but icky medical issue that has forced me to completely change the way I am eating and treating my body. While this has been hard in some ways (yeah, giving up my morning tea, dairy products, and chocolate, etc, all at once sucked), it's actually amazing in many ways. Because of my many new dietary restrictions, I am now inspired to cook and eat creatively, and the biggest change of all is that for the first time I am now able to put my body first and really think about what it needs. This is such a huge change for me, as I have always put my body last, and just taken it for granted that my body would support me when I didn't support it. It's sad that it took this kind of thing for me to get there, but it is so exciting to actually extend the love and support that my body needs from me.

Sorry to go on and on, it's just a lot of change for me to process and getting some thoughts out helps. Anyway, one of the results of this change is that I've started losing weight. I don't yet know how much since I haven't been home to my scale for several weeks, but I am really looking forward to finding out where I'm at now.

Magda, I really hear you about the difficulty of the delayed payoff. One thing that helps me is to think of my body as parts made up of what I put into it--if I put cake into my system, will parts made from that be able to do the things I want to do?

Thanks for listening.

Magda- I'm a year and a half into my weight loss, I think that Sarah is over two years. Many of us have long term goals for weight loss- even if it isn't a huge amount of weight. It's a lifestyle change, and that takes time. Don't get frustrated.

I had some ice cream and cake at my FILs birthday party. I also had diet soda which totally bloated me, so I didn't weight this morning. I also have a knee injury I'm dealing with, which has kept me from running for the last week.
I hope it mends soon. But at least I can't point the finger at my diet this week, because I'm going to get back to it. I feel awful today just from the cake and ice cream, and I don't like how it feels at all.

I thought I was going well, with only a pound left to my goal about 10 days ago. Then the temporary bloat that comes with TOM turned into a long term 2 pound gain thanks, I imagine, to my deciding to cook 2 Nigella Lawson chocolate puddings in 2 consecutive days!
It is coming down very slightly but I need to get a hold of my eating
