I meant to comment about that, too Vani. My dad always does that- if not to me, than to my husband. It's so rude, inconsiderate and hurtful. I think the last time he said anything, I just told him that he was old- and at least I could loose weight. Of course, he though that was funny.

Yay, that's wonderful Khris! It amazes me how in tune you are with your body and it's needs.

Michelle, Thank you! Big *hugs* right back. Sigh...I guess it is some consolation that I'm not being singled out. It is the same line she takes with my SIL, DH, their cousins and so on. I can brush past anything but it hurts when comparisons are drawn. Which is why I am thankful for YLF every single day. You keep me going and confident in myself

I lost two pounds last night- why doesn't that happen on Sunday night??
I have recently discovered that regardless of how much I eat through the morning and afternoon, and am starving by 4pm. (I mean- ready to gnaw my own arm off- even if I have a snack at 3). So, instead of fighting nature, I am starting to have dinner ready at 4. I can have a snack later, but eating my big meal early seems to make sense to me. That's what I did yesterday, and it obviously worked.

Oh no! I'm sorry that I am not alone in this.
Marianna- you may be under eating. I use Sparkpeople.com to track calories. It's free and easy, and you can even add a recipe, have it calculate the calories and then add it to your favorite foods.

I'm paying for it. I need to be able to look up the point value of most foods, and I can do that with the tools. Plus there's a recipe builder which allows me to calculate the point value of stuff I cook myself (this is huge for me, since I cook often). If you ever need/want me to look stuff up for you, though, I'd be happy to.

Annoying as it can be, counting callories (or points or whatever you use) is probably a good idea. I know my best weeks are the ones in which I'm logging things religiously. It's amazing how things can add up. Or even how they don't. Sometimes you realize you're short of your target and should go ahead and eat something.

I have been walking 1 mile around a park, but I probably wasn't pushing myself very hard because I wasn't breaking a sweat. I'll be using a treadmill from now on and I usually feel like I push myself a lot harder when I'm in an actual gym setting.

Before I got really fat I used to run several miles on the treadmill and I did indeed work up the endurance by doing walking/jogging intervals. I've never done couch-to-5k but it seems like a good way to start... I like following "rules" when it comes to exercise. Walking on an incline is a great idea too. I remember that I used to get a great workout doing this.

I also probably need to count calories. Lately I've just been eating "healthy" but maybe I am still eating too much. I hate counting calories...

Marianna, you burn just as many calories walking one mile, as you do running 1 mile. How much are you walking now?

I've done the couch-to-5K before and it is great. What I do now mostly (and what I recommend) is to just go by how you feel, and always do less than you think you can (to prevent overdoing it and injuring yourself).

Try inserting short bursts of slow jogging into your walking routine. Slow back down to a walk before you feel too tired. For example, when I first started running (this is 17 years ago), I had been power-walking 5x's a week, 1 hour. After about a year of doing that, I was feeling unchallenged, so one day I decided to jog between telephone poles. Then walk for two telephone poles. Then jog for one. I did this and slowly worked my way up to running the entire route - still the same amount of calories burned, just faster!

If you're on a treadmill another thing you can do is use the hills setting - still walking but you'll feel the burn for sure. Incidentally (and I love this factoid!), walking uphill is great for lowering your blood pressure, while walking downhill is great for reducing your blood sugar! So do both.

Marianna dear, you're being too hard on yourself. You've lost a bunch of weight, so obviously your body isn't quite as stubborn as you make it out to be. As to this week's gain, perhaps you were under-eating? That can adversely affect weight loss, crazily enough. You're still doing well!
Focus on your interview for now and get back your positive mojo!

I'm with Rute on this! I started back in on my running program this month. I'd slacked off back in October; it was tempting to take off the entire winter and wait for warm weather, but I'm tired of the scale not budging!

My new goal is to run at least 3x's a week, which I managed for all of January. I'm taking it pretty easy, and giving myself permission not to run on the super frigid or icy days.

So it's not much, but the scale seems to finally be budging. I think I'm down about a pound. It's hard to say, there's too much fluctuation. I definitely have not gained. :-)

Oh well, even if I've not lost anything at all, I feel so much better. Yeah for exercise and what it does for your self-image!

Now I have to stop reading YLF and get out there for my run... the weather isn't too bad today: 28 degrees, sunny, not much wind... sidewalks are clear...

Question for the exercisers: do you use a calendar to give yourself a "gold star" on days you exercise? For some reason, I have always found this to be highly motivating.

Ugh, I have no words. BAD weigh-in for everyone. My new scale reports that I have gained 0.8 pounds, which I think is absolutely ridiculous because I was SO good this week. Really really good. I did not overeat, if anything I ate less than usual. What can I do. Sigh.

Uggh, looks like the dreaded plateau Khris. You look fantastic so maybe the inches are melting and you just need to wait for a flush. As promised I've started eating healthy, following general South Beach guidelines. I've also been good about going to the gym every morning. Inspired by Sarah, I'm adding in a strength workout at home in the evenings, starting today. I think I've lost about 4 lbs in the last few weeks, so I'm quite motivated. Of course, it didn't help that the second thing my MIL said to me after wishing me on my birthday is that I need to lose weight. Urgh.

Looks like a frustrating weigh-in day across the board, ladies. I went up 0.6 pounds this week. It wasn't a huge shock, but a bit disappointing all the same. But I'm determined to just buckle down harder this week. Problem; we have two dinner engagements at restaurants with a prix-fixe menu (part of a winter festival here in Toronto), so I'll have to counteract the effects of meals I don't cook myself. Strategy is to reserve all my flex points so I can enjoy those dinners without guilt (yes, the price includes dessert). Diligent logging will be crucial this week if I'm to stay on target each day and save my flex points. I'll also try and be good about walking more. I welcome other suggestions.

Khris, don't lose heart; you've still lost an unbeilievable amount and are light years ahead of where you were this time last year. Hopefully this month will be better for you. And don't beat yourself up too much; you've been sick, and getting healthy should come first!
