medusa- I like that. I don't chart it, but that is how I think about it. I have a year and a half of weights that I can look at now, and see the general trend along with dips and jumps.

sorry queenie- that sucks

shana I'm glad you were able to talk to a trainer and get some ideas. Hope you back is feeling better soon.

jennifer- you still managed to loose through a stressful period and that is great! Thanks for posting a photo of yourself. Good luck on cutting back on sugar.

Hi all,

Sorry to be gone last week (we had a complete office move). Well, after gaining two weeks ago, I'm now down .5 pounds. Given the past couple weeks and the time of the month, I'll take what I can get. Now that things are getting settled, my goal is to get back to the goal of 2 pounds/week. We'll see how things go. I also managed to get a photo. http://i607.photobucket.com/al.....000348.jpg

My goal for the next week is to cut out/back sugar. Wish me luck, and way to go Michele, Marianna etc. I've been experimenting with weighing in more than once/week, I like getting a better sense of fluctuations, but would have preferred my Sat number to my Monday report.

Great job everyone! Every little bit helps - Marianna, 2.2 lbs is great!

Well, considering I just ate an ENTIRE bag of reese's peanut butter cups and it's that time of the month, I better not say. I did go the gym today and 3 times last week but I can't do much because of my back so I'm probably eating more than I'm burning! I did have a great talk with one of the trainers today and she gave me all sorts of tips on exercises I can do to strengthen my back and core without hurting myself so I'm going to try to implement some of these.

Congrats Khris, Marianna, Rute, and Michelle. Sounds like you are all doing well.

I don't know if this is useful for anyone, but I thought I'd mention it to anyone who likes to weigh daily. I used the weighing method of the Hacker's Diet (http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/www/hackdiet.html) which is to weigh every day, but then calculate the moving average to get a sense of the trend and not get overwhelmed by the noise. It's described in this section:
http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdi.....0000000000

What Khris said. Weighing yourself everyday helps you recognize weight fluctuations in a good way.

I think you are all doing marvelously well! WOW.

Marianna, try taking a brisk 20 minute walk each day. Stay in your clothes and make sure you’re wearing comfy flats. This will really help. Take along a friend or dog!

Thanks Khris. You're right. I'm just being hard on myself because I constantly feel like I could be doing better. I need to start exercising. I think I'm being so hard on myself because I have so much free time yet I don't do any intentional exercise. That should be my goal for this week.

Marianna- my weight fluctuates a lot from day to day. If you weighed yourself daily, maybe you would see that those fluctuations are normal for you, too. I like to look at both the short term- daily weight and longer term- weekly/monthly weight and measurements.
The current research/theories do not suggest loosing more than about 2 pounds a week because supposedly you will be losing muscle rather than fat. To me, it's more important to keep at a downward trend and maintain it, that than the actual amounts. You're doing great- don't be so hard on yourself!

rute- maintaining through all of that is no mean accomplishment.

Michelle- you're doing awesome!

I lost 2.2 pounds this week.

I am sort of annoyed because I weighed myself on Saturday and I was down 2.8 pounds, but today I'm up 0.6 from Saturday. That's why I dislike weighing myself more than once a week. I think this gain is caused by an increase in sugar, especially at night. I really enjoy having fruit at night while I'm watching tv and I think this is a bad idea for me. I think I need to restrict myself to having fruit (and all sugar) only in the first part of the day.

Otherwise I'm doing okay. Down 4.8 pounds for the month of January so far. I'm not satisfied with that... I still feel like I could be doing better although I really had a good week. Sigh.

A pretty good week over here: I lost 1.4 pounds for the week, bringing the total to 10.2. This means I met my short-term goal of getting to the 10-pound mark for this weigh-in. Next short-term goal is to be north of 15 pounds lost by my birthday, which is in exactly one month. Ideally I'd like to be closer to 20 by then, actually.

The next goal is also to start introducing more regular exercise into my life, ideally using the free fitness centre in my apartment building. A word of warning that I'll be consulting with you ladies about how to get started, as this is an area where I have *always* struggled.

Happy Monday ladies!
I am down .2, and since it's that time of the month again- that is good for me. I usually bloat up a couple of pounds at this time in my cycle, so I'm happy.
How is everyone else doing this week?
