Thanks Julie and Amanda for the affirmation!
I think the tide has turned a bit. As of a few days ago I was down a couple of pounds to just at the top of my range (have guests in our room now so don't know). And it is amazing the difference having TOM actually start can make. Suddenly the raging hunger just stops!

Also I have been on 2 runs since then (I have just joined a Mum's running group which is a helpful motivator)

And Julie I am making a point of having porridge. I love porridge, specially in the cold weather, and I do indeed find it fills me up right through the morning. I like it cold too (have just had some now as a late night snack)

Oh Anne, you still look fab in my eyes. I recommend porridge as a good slow energy release warming breakfast and just to get moving. I danced a lot with my little girls when we were snowed in over the winter, it's instantly warming, a little silly and the girls laughed their little socks off.

Thanks KP, Rute and Isobel! Rute, I have a haircut booked for next week.

And my local newspaper has just reported that we have had the second coldest June on record, with an average minimum 2 degrees below the usual minimum. So I feel a bit vindicated!

I agree with Rute - don't be so hard on yourself. When you are breastfeeding AND it is freezing, your body needs all those extra calories. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. As the weather improves and you start weaning your baby, it will get better.

thinking of you !

I I see what you mean, I have also still 3 kg I'm trying to loose (i've lost 2 already :)

It's so frustating when we gain weight. My advice is:
- stop feeling down!
- Do something to lift up the moral: a new haircut, new shoes.. ;)
- start eating right! and think, I can do it!
- No blankets! Exercise! It's difficult at first, but you'll feel much warmer than on the coach!

Goodness sweety, if you have too high a body fat percentage, mine would probably send your scales into instant meltdown!

True story: My three year old came into the bathroom this morning as I stepped out of the shower and said to his father (who was there to brush his teeth) quite chirpily:

"Hey Daddy - <poke> Mummy has a squishy bottom; <poke> Mummy has squishy thighs; <poke, poke> Mummy has a squishy tummy" at which point I said "Is there ANY part of me that isn't squishy?" To which he replied by pointing at my elbows! Goodness, you have to laugh or you'll cry!

I can understand exactly how you feel about the extra weight (I'm up a tad too, well obviously, you just read what my son said), but I know that for me and I certainly know that for motivated little you, that you will get that extra "zing" to get out and about soon! Now, I must go and do my weights! <Nah, only kidding, I think I'll surf on here a while longer and then have a glass of wine - I'll start tomorrow!>

Angie that is kind of you! But honestly I feel like an Amazon! And according to my (hopefully dodgy) bodyfat scales I have too high a fat percentage.

Thanks Karen and Sveta.

Karen I do indeed know about the bodytrim diet. One of my good friends lost about 12 kg on it and in fact I tried it about a month ago and (kind of) stuck to it for about a week, and lost 1.3kg. Then I had rellies come to stay and haven't gone back to it. I found it difficult to stick to when being hospitable on a budget.

It did pinpoint to me not only how very much carbs I usually eat (Have known for years that that is my "weakness" but how helpful having some protein to eat, which is why I resonated with Joy's suggestion.
TOM started today, so hopefully some of my cravings will abate.

Oh Anne, how frustrating. I do not purposely dieted but I did manage to loose about 35 pounds over several years. What I found to work for me is to remove all junk and empty calorie food from my house. If it is not there I do not want it! After a while I did not even craved it anymore.
Also I found that getting as much fiber as possible works as well. Now for cereals, bread, rice, paste I select stuff with as much fiber content as possible. I even began to use whole wheat flour to replace regular flour in pancakes and baking. Fiber fills you up and you do not feel hungry longer.
Also I stopped drinking any juices - they are packed with calories but do not satisfy any hunger so you still eat more.
I found that change in your regular diet works much better than any dieting. I eat everything now but control the portions - it helps as well.

Anne it has been so cold here too! Last few nights have been 0 (32F)!!! I am following Body Trim which I have lost just over 10kg since Feb - it is a low carb diet and the emphasis is on using protein to fill you up. I wont bore everyone with all the details of it on here so if you want to know anything else just PM me.

Hugs, Anne. Are you getting enough water and enough protein? Try eating some protein like a piece of cheese or some nuts when you are hungry instead of something with carbs. When it's cold and we want something hot to drink and have had enough tea, DH and I often drink hot water, maybe with a bit of lemon.
It's a challenge coming off breastfeeding when one is used to needing extra food.

Anne-big hug from me! It's just an on going stuggle to find the time and motivation to keep up a routine of diet and exercise. I have been trying to drop 10 pounds for the last year and do really well for a few days, then "forget" that I was trying to be good and have to start all over again. Vicious cycle. I've decided to start a journal tracking everything that goes in my mouth, and chart my exercise! Hopefully that will keep me going

I have not been going at all well with weight the last few weeks.
For those who are new, I am by no means overweight, but have a 2kg (4.4lb) range that I have existed in for the last 10 years or so (3 pregnancies excepting). If I get to the top, I try to go down a bit.
A few weeks ago I went to a 5 day course. It was thoroughly worthwhile but... they served delicious food for lunch, morning and afternoon teas, I ate minties to keep myself awake on the trip up to the citiy and it was really sedentary compared to my normal life as a MOTG. I returned with 2 extra kg. I thought it might go down once I returned to my town and in a few days I had taken off 1.5 kg. Then I stopped weighing myself because we have had (for us in Aus) really cold weather and I didn't want to take my clothes off to weigh myself first thing in the morning. (neither do I tend to take my clothes off to go to bed, but that's another story)

When I finally did weigh myself the other day I found the weight had gone back on again. I guess I am not really surprised. My excercise has been almost non existent, I am PM, I cut back on breastfeeding my daughter, so that may not have helped either and I am eating terribly.
The cold weather makes me crave stodgy puddings, roasts and hot chocolate. I have been eating extra bowls of cereal, and even making up icing to eat.

I plan to get up tomorrow to run but it is forecast to 4 (39F) as well as dark and I don't know if I'll make it. Compared to many of you I am sure that I am being a really softie, so any encouragement and bucking up is appreciated!
