Definitely can relate! It's a known fact that the brain lags behind the body. It's completely normal experience to be staring at the mirror still seeing the heavier you, long after the weight is gone. It's not a process that can be sped up, though retail therapy certainly helps.

I also think we can get attached emotionally to certain clothing items. It's like giving up a trusty, reliable friend!

But I think I have much more trouble when my weight is going in the other direction, and I need to size up.

I can relate, totally. There are so many emotional issues related to weight loss. I wish I had known at the beginning of my journey that I would have to tackle this much emotional weight, too. It's a process and until you reach your goal, you will have to work through these things.
So hugs, and congrats on your progress!!

I definitely find that it takes a while to mentally adjust to changes in my body. I just got so used to thinking of myself in a certain way - usually a negative way - that it became an ingrained habit. I got there eventually.

I struggled with this when I lost my baby weight. I would not believe the scales or the tape measure and consistently ordered clothes which were too big. I think it is doubly hard when your body is changing shape as well as shrinking.

VERY interesting. I'd have never guessed that this would be a challenge. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else?

I try not to give too much weight to those little numbers on clothing tags (so much varies from item to item and brand to brand), but the fact of the matter is that they serve as a milestone and marker from where I came and where I want to go. Every time that I go down a size, I struggle a little bit. You would think that it would be a good thing, and it is; but I also find it a difficult thing. I flounder a little bit when "my" size no longer fits me. At first it doesn't occur to me to try a smaller size (even though my old size is clearly too large). I think there is something wrong with me, or the clothing. I can't possibly be ready for that next size down. The problem is that I am not mentally ready for the next size down, even when I physically need it. I just wanted to share this process that I go through in case anyone runs into it. I have dropped 5 pants sizes now. Each and every time I went through this. You would think that I would have learned by now!
Oh and yes- the new, smaller pants that I ordered came today- and they fit perfectly.
