It is tricky and annoying about the fluctuations and some of your knitwear! I agree about the holding zone. But let's talk about that plaid puffer and burgundy outfit!! Absolutely love it!

All lovely but that last outfit is sensational. I want those pants!

Fitted knitwear can be useful for layering under (fitted) jacket and coats, so I’d keep it them if you have the room.

I voted for Team Other rather than Team Puffer but wow - I never knew tweed puffers even existed before this point, but now this gives me hope for finding a dressy puffer jacket in the future. For now, I shall admire yours with that column of burgundy

PS - I use the same duplication strategy as you but with petite & regular items. Sounds weird because obviously my height doesn't change lol, but I'm right on the cusp between the two fits so having both can help (not just with weight fluctuations but also seasons - I like to wear longer (regular) length sleeves in the winter & shorter (petite) ones in the summer, for example).

You always look lovely but the burgundy lavender combination is just gorgeous. So unusual but looks so right.

I have the same pattern of weight loss and gain and same annoying fit issues with knits!

Gorgeous (and clever!) outdoor dining outfits, Tanya. I love burgundy and soft lilacs together, and the texture of all these items make them feel especially cozy.

I agree with the comments about simply putting the knits that don't make you happy into the holding zone. They are still in good condition and in your preferred palette, so why not hang onto them, especially if weight is continuing to change.

I'm sometimes caught in this, too, with knits -- not expecting them to fit differently with weight loss or gain. But of course they do. I think you look terrific in all of these, but I understand the preference for a more fluid fit and it is probably more comfortable, too.

Thank you all so much for the kind words on the outfits. I have been wearing lots of burgundy this fall, and the combo with lilac is new and something I am enjoying. Berets are the only hat types I do not absolutely hate on myself so there will be many more photos of me in berets as it is cooled down outside

I also really appreciate all the support and advice on the weight fluctuations and knitwear fit. Strangely, I don't keep anything woven/tailored that doesn't fit right now in my closet - those items are packed away in my holding zone - but the situation with the knits is different. I guess I have a subconscious expectation for the knits to be more forgivable in their fit because they are stretchy, and this was a good lesson that this is not necessarily the case. Anyway, I have been convinced to pack away most of the too-fitted knits and put them in the holding zone as well. I will only keep a small number in colors of my fall palette that are useful now as underlayers. They will likely get rotated for a different set of colors once I switch to my winter palette.

Having said that, these all look great on you. And you continue to be a vision in burgundy and pink! (those boots, that puffer, the beret!!).

I love your burgundy wardrobe.
I often keep the size smaller layering items in a different but visible section of my closet. The items that fit that I consider when I'm creating my outfit get center stage. Then I pick out the underneath layer. That's when the underneath item will not ever be fully visible.

I put things that don’t currently fit out of sight with the out of season things. I have things that are a size too big and a size too small and when I switch the seasons I try on everything to see where I am. Sometimes I alter the too-big things down if I really want them in the mix that year.

Great Columns of color outfits. Especially love the tweed puffer. I also vacillate between two sizes, and currently am in the larger one. I put those clothes that fit too snugly out of mind and out of sight (in a very high shelf that I cannot reach without a step-up) to avoid getting too irked.

Your burgundy base is fabulous. I love both colour combinations - both puffers are very pretty. You style your outfits extremely well always, and these are no exception. I always admire the bag in no 6 - it is perfect with so many of your outfits, a magical item! And your navy booties are a HEWI for me. I have been looking for navy boots for a while, ordered some and returned. They are not easy to find now.
I can totally relate re the weight fluctuations and I have had two sizes represented in my wardrobe for a long time. I don’t usually wear fitted tops, and knitwear is my smallest wardrobe category, so I have this issue with trousers and jeans. I usually do not get rid of the items which are a tad bit big or small, I keep them because I know their time will come again. A storage/holding zone is good for that purpose. FWIW - you look great in both the turtlenecks. To use the smaller one as a layering item at the moment is a good solution.

I’ve started buying mediums again because I too have started preferring a more fluid fit… but wait, listen… I declared rather recently that I was over wearing winter scarves… only to pull out and don scarves yesterday and today… invocation of the Law of Contrariness, fitted tops will no doubt be extremely desirable next week…

You look fantastic in burgundy, Tanya! I can relate to the different fits due to weight fluctuation too—you’re not alone there! Using the smaller size as a layering piece is a great idea and totally makes sense. Love the lilac puffer too! So fun! It’s great seeing your polished style on the forum again. You are an inspiration!

Beautiful combinations- love lilac with burgundy ( the puffer and beret are so good together in the last pic! ).
The merino turtlenecks look good on you in both sizes- the difference is subtle and reads like tighter fit for colder day and slightly fluid fit for the warmer day - pretty both ways.

The past weekend was the last mild one we'll have for a a while, 65F/17C highs, so I took advantage of it to have a couple of outdoor meals with friends, well bundled up. I had a dinner with a friend on Saturday evening and very belated birthday brunch with a small family on Sunday.

Both outfits were pretty similar, a column of burgundy with a short, non-down puffer in a different color for warmth. The first outfit was the following: old cashmere burgundy turtleneck, burgundy coated crop kick flare jeans, sparkly navy tweed puffer, navy booties and cross body bag. The second outfit is new burgundy merino turtleneck, velveteen slim pants, lilac puffer and beret, tall burgundy boots and cross body bag.

The two burgundy turtlenecks are a good illustration of a situation in my wardrobe related to fit of knitwear and some other items, too, that is making me quite annoyed. My weight has been going up and down a lot in the last couple of years, from lower edge of one size, to higher edge of the next size up, almost to the second size up. I am currently at the highest weight point of this range. The old cashmere turtleneck is from when I was 1.5 sizes smaller and preferred more fitted look, so it is quite fitted, too fitted for my tastes now so I only wear it as a layer under a jacket. The new merino turtleneck is obviously in a bigger size and fits more fluidly, as I prefer now. I have a lot of knitwear that fits like the older one, and is otherwise in perfect condition. Since my weight keeps changing I don't want to get rid of the old items, but they are not that useful to me now either. Occasionally, if I keep reaching for a certain item and getting annoyed with it's fit, I will get something similar in a bigger size, like here. However, I don't want to do it for everything. I am not asking for a particular solution as I know there isn't an easy one, I guess I am just venting and it might make me feel better putting it down on paper (screen).
