You look stunning in both outfits, Tanya. The colors are gorgeous on you, so I can see why you are drawn to them. The sailor pants make your legs look a mile long. I think you could hem them by a couple of inches and still not take away from the overall fabulous 70's look.

Wow, thank you for all for such positive comments on the outfits and Ia appreciate the ideas on pairings for the ribbed top. After whole day of wearing the sailor pants, they have relaxed some and are riding lower on my hips than in the morning, which makes them even longer than they originally wore. I was in a bit of danger of stepping on them and tripping today, so the decision has been sort of made for me. I will hem them a little, though not too much - I will check my shoes in the 2.75-3" heel (really wedge) range and decide exactly. So the pants will still be long, but hopefully much more manageable and less dangerous

WOW does that first pair of pants look amazing on you! Dreamy fit. I like the sailor pants left long but if you don't think they'll get enough wear you could hem for, say, 2-3" heels instead which will give a similar, if a little less dramatic, look. Of course you do have other lovely pants so perhaps leaving long is ok (not sure how many are wide hemmed) so they have something to differentiate themselves.

I really love the cobalt/olive combination. It looks great on you.

About your questions: For the top, I agree that a full skirt would look great. What about other fuller bottoms? culottes or any kind of drapey pants with a waistband? For the pants, I'm a firm believer in comfortable feet and wearing things often, so I'd hem them and wear the heck out of them. I don't think hemming would detract that much from the drama of the look.

I love both of these outfits. I'm liking olive a lot this summer too. Wearing an olive vest today, bought some cargo pants and my daughter says there's an olive dress at the boutique she's working at that's my kind of thing so of course I have to go check it out asap.

The first outfit has a killer silhouette with the contrast between flowy and cropped. I love that the cute shoes take the cobalt down to your feet. These colors marry together brilliantly, and the outfit is not overloaded with tons of other detail. I also find the second look very cute too. Those pants are fun, and it's a vibrant, refreshing look.

Given the depth of your wardrobe, I'd keep the sailor pants long.
Like other wide pants, and flares, they do look better with heels.

Ribbed body con tee I associate with the 70s, so I think they totally work here with sailor pants, wedges and neckerchief. Would work with flares in the same way - or cropped flares if you're in mood for a more trendy look.

And you look fantastic, as always. I think I need to invest in a Dictionary of English Superlatives, if there is such a thing, to go on commenting on your outfits.

ETA: the fringe trend seems to be ribbed on ribbed, since Céline did these, euh, peculiar, ribbed ensembles 2 years ago (#1). Here another example at Sonia Rykiel Resort (#2), they've done this ribbed ensembles since the 70s at Rykiel.
So, maybe a knit skirt, some kind of bottoms with movement, fluidity?

I'm loving the olive and cobalt together and both outfits are stunning on you. If you don't need the long pants in regular rotation, I'd be tempted to leave them as they are for the drama, but the practical side says shorten to give them more use. Of course you could do that next year.
I don't know about the ribbed knit. I think the fabric emphasizes a larger bust when the knit ribs are pulled open, which may or may not be the intention. A DSIL pointed out this to me which made her detest the fabric.

Wow, great outfits. That last one makes your legs look soooooo long! However, to answer your question, I have found for myself that I don't like being limited in shoe choice because of the length so I would shorten them a little bit.

Great outfits! I love the olive and cobalt combination in #1. The long trousers look great, but I would probably hem them to a more useful length. That's just my preference for getting the most use out of my items. If you have plenty of bottoms and don't need them in your rotation, then leave them long - they're very flattering at the long length.

I love cobalt, but am not drawn to many warm colors. I don't really have Browns in my wardrobe anymore. However, I do like olive. I wouldn't have thought of pairing the two colors together, but I like the capsule.

My goodness, Tanya, you look gorgeous in both these outfits! Absolutely stunning. I love the cobalt jeans rolled up a bit -- it freshens the look of coloured jeans for sure. I often use that trick of rolling up inside as well to give myself the versatility.

The trousers in #2 are stunning on you and I can see the advantages of leaving them -- but why not experiment by pinning and taking photos to see how you feel with them hemmed at a more practical length?

Glad you asked that question about the tops as I was wondering this as well.

I have developed a mild obsession with olive this summer, especially with how it looks with various shades of blue. I find this a bit surprising , considering olive is not my best color, so I try to find slight greyed versions whenever possible.
Yesterday's (Wednesday) outfit was inspired by Angie's ensemble from last summer on wearing olive and cobalt together. I had a long day in a cold part of the lab doing experiments, so I dressed for warmth and comfort. I combined a new Express olive sweater open in the back with black chiffon underlay with old Rag&Bone cobalt jeans with tuxedo stripe and even older pointy cobalt (fake) pony hair flats by DV by Dolce Vita. The jeans are full length but I rolled them under for more current cropped look. The outfit was finished by graphic black&white silk neckerchief, silver RM satchel and silver/rose gold MK watch.
Today's outfit is a little dressier since I need to give a talk at the lab meeting later in the afternoon. It was built around H&M striped ribbed top that has stripes in olive and navy with navy Express sailor pants and classic navy bandana. It was completed with ancient light brown cork wedge BC Footwear sandals and white MK watch.
I have two questions about items from today's outfit:
1. I have been noticing slim ribbed striped tops again in stores again after maybe 20 years - I loved them and wore t to death in high school. They tend to be very body-con though, so in this particular H&M one I sized up for slightly more relaxed fit. What kind of bottoms do you think they work the best with? I can imagine full skirts but that is about it.
2. Pant length - these navy pants are very long and require me to wear my 4" wedges. While I love the leg-elongating effect of the length, I wonder about the practicality as I can not handle such high heels regularly and only have two pairs anyway. Would you keep the luxurious length and only wear the pants on more special occasions or hem them to more practical but less dramatic 2" shorter length that would allow them to be worn much more often?
