Interesting to see your process. It looks familiar, like something I go through fairly often. Except the part about working from an inspiration photo--that is something more rare for me.

I like your final version a lot--very polished, authentically you, and great for the occasion and weather.

I can see you wearing the lighter weight button front blouse in summer, maybe even unbuttoned (all or partially) over a striped tank, like a cardigan substitute.

Like others, I can't even imagine dressing for that cold or going out in it. Brrrr.

Love your new finds, and how fun to have a connection to a local boutique.

Two great new purchases and so nice to support your cousin's boutique.

I like the first two outfits as well, but given the temperatures, you needed far more warmth. I would be wearing 5 puffers layered in those temps.

Helena, what happens when you wear a solid white top like your new tee with black pants? Does that work? I’m still trying to decide if the stripes made the outfit work or if it was really the crispness of the shirt…..

Thank you so much everyone for the kind comments and helpful feedback!

Re: the shirt ... yes, you guys are right and thanks for articulating it so well, it lacks the substance and crispness that my first outfit would require to work. Lisa/Zaeobi, I bought the shirt specifically because for the lightness, so I could wear it in warmer weather if I wanted coverage ... but I will use a critical eye and see if it's truly working for me, as you are both right, it lacks crispness that perhaps is more essential to my style than I want to admit from a practical standpoint (that only conundrum - when personal style and lifestyle clash!). The problem is, I hate ironing and frankly just never do it ... so a crisper version would look just lovely in the closet but likely would not get worn much! :D

Also re: proportions and tucking, this is something I'm going to have to figure out with the higher waists and straighter legs (and why I miss skinnies *sigh*) ... I don't have much of a waist to start with, and this doesn't help ... it sort of makes me look like a Lego mini-fig, where the legs are just snapped into the chest lol ... will have to figure out how to make the current styles and styling work better for me ... maybe we can bring pack untucked tops so the short-waisted among us have a chance?!?

To those in colder climes, I send my loving warmth, and to those in warmer climes, I send my loving jealousy!! My Australian in-laws are torturing us with photos from the beach on the family chat *sigh*

Thanks all! x

It’s plenty warm here :)

I actually really like where you are going with the first outfit. But I think the pocket kind of distracts from the colour blocking. I would be tempted to try it with a thicker shirt with no pockets.

Love the final outfit that you settled on. Nice pattern mix. And it looks warm too.

Ooh I like the final outfit - especially the striped jumper (nice Xmas gift ) & coat! Great colours on you that I sadly can't wear, so I shall live vicariously through you

Agree that the shirt seems a bit flimsy for the look - personally I've either gotten rid of most shirts with collars like that, or added them to my alterations pile (thinking of cutting off the collar to either make it a mandarin neckline or completely collarless). For me, the issue is that the softness of the material (& casualness of the chest pocket) doesn't quite match the formal connotations of that stiff collar style - for summer (when I would wear such fabric) I find that I prefer collarless styles anyway (less fussy & 'in the way'). It might work fine for you though, in which case just ignore my musings lol.

It’s very strange to live in a mild climate now.
Although people here think it’s cold today at 46 F. Hahahahahaha.

I love the combo with the sweater and magic pants . The shirt doesn’t look substantial enough , I agree . Not as crisp as I would expect for you either . Are you keeping it ? And I love that tshirt ! Not familiar with that brand but will have to look it up . I don’t even know what 22F is anymore , but it’s not bad here at -10c today ……except it’s ridiculously windy . Can’t we have anything nice ??

I have to force myself to go outside when it's in the 30s (F.) I agree with the assessment on the white button down--it doesn't seem substantial enough over the long sleeve layer or something like that... The sweater and black pants are awesome!! LOVE!

Hi all, happy Saturday! We are in a deep freeze here, at about -22F, so it was nice that my cousin had her boutique grand opening so that I had something fun and positive to look forward to! Very limited numbers and all the Covid protocols, so I felt very safe.

I had spotted an outfit on Instagram that I wanted to try, which was jeans, a black bodysuit, and a white shirt. I followed my feelings and managed to not wear the original outfit at all, but still ended up with something I was happy with! Emotional dressing ftw!

1. Original outfit ... I liked it but something felt off ... it was maybe a bit boxy? The tucked shirt with the high waist jeans maybe doesn't work in a conventionally-flattering way on my rectangle body?
2. Swapped out the jeans for my 'magic pants' - liked it better but decided this is more of an early spring outfit - the shirt is so lightweight it didn't feel right for such a cold day.
3. Swapped out the shirt for my striped sweater, but left the black t underneath, for extra warmth as well as extra contrast. Bingo! This one felt right (it is also all pieces from the boutique, so was perfect for the occasion too!)
4. Final product, with new scarf and my blue coat. Felt good! If I was going to be outside much longer, I would have put a thin puffer under, but as it was I was only running from car to store, so this was adequate.

I did purchase a few items, shown in Finds, because if you don't support family, what are you even doing with your life *smiles innocently* :D

1. necklace - because you can never have too many in my book!
2. super-soft heavy-weight tee - I might have preferred this is a rich colour, but it was just. so. soft. - I couldn't resist it. This brand (Kaffe) is one I've had luck with - does anyone know anything about it? Think it's Danish? (the striped sweater is Kaffe too).

Thanks for looking; feedback welcome and hope everyone is staying warm!
