Hurrray for breakfast spills, 'cos you look wonderful! Both outfits are great actually. Such a shame about the blue top not behaving. I agree with Caro though, perhaps it needs lifting along the shoulder seams to raise it up and tighten the neckline a little.
I have had outfits that worked in my head but not in practise too, though I can recall exact ones.

#1 is so fresh!
I hope you can solve the slipping thing with the blue, in the pics it does look to be draping well with the full tuck.

#1 caught my eye first, I love the white and citron combination. The second outfit is modern and flattering so I'm not sure why you didn't care for it. Was it mostly the top slipping? If so I know what you mean, I keep telling myself to stop buying those necklines. I have seen similar tops with less deep necklines, they usually stay put better.

ETA -- and I think the full tuck looks great.

I really like both outfits! Don't think the tuck looks bad at allllll. Can you have those little snaps put in so that the top attaches to your bra straps?

Love the citron outfit. It's nice when you get an unexpected delight like that. I love doing button downs under cardigan sweaters -- it feels so crisp. The only thing I hate for me is layering feels so laborious with a button down it had to lay just so.
I usually try everything I wear on in advance. When I don't I get outfits that work well in theory but suck in execution. I love the concept of outfit #2. Who doesn't love a cobalt top and textured pencil skirt? Perhaps a cotton tank underneath would keep things from sliding around?

That citron cardi certainly loos fab with the white blouse & jeans - very crisp & fresh looking. What a shame your blouse didn't behave but at east it loos good with that skirt.

I love the crisp look of the white blouse and citron sweater in #1. Too bad about the fussiness of the top in #2 as the outfit looks great. I don't like clothes that are fiddly either.

Pity about blouse #2. Though the color is gorgeous, it sounds like the easiest thing to do would be to part ways.

I love your first outfit - you look fantastic! And I relate very well to the problems with the neckline with the second blouse. I am trying to avoid acquiring anything else with that shape. The principle of the outfit looks good though if you find a different top to try.

Caro, I did think of taking up a good amount at the shoulders. There is no true shoulder seam and where there is a seam, one side of it is sheer material. So I think I'd have it done rather than doing it myself. I love the color so maybe it would be worth it. Its most successful outing was when worn as a tunic--I almost think it's not actually silk, because it doesn't drape well when tucked.

Both outfits look fantastic, but I know what you mean about that neckline on the second blouse. I tend not to wear them any more anyway, but they always drove me mad when I did. Caro makes a good point about a slight alteration.

You're right that sometimes items behave in unexpected ways when paired in new combinations. It's the pulling/ tugging/ teasing that's the worst. I will need to think about whether I've had any surprises lately...I'm not completely sure, actually!

Today dressing didn't go as planned. I spilled on the shirt I picked out, so I put on this white one. But the reason the white one doesn't get worn much is that the cotton/silk blend is quite sheer, and I didn't want the people I was working with that day to be able to see the entire outline of the tank top underneath. So I popped on this citron cardigan, trusting in the A/C of a couple of different buildings to keep me cool.

And you know, I loved the outfit! I'd never tried the cardi with the white shirt before, and I felt wonderful in that contrast.

Monday was a different story. I'd been planning for days to wear this copy of a recent Beth Ann K-rated outfit. I was so excited about it, and knew I would look and feel terrific. However the blouse just didn't want to play! The half-tuck looked bad, the full tuck looked bad, untucked looked bad, and to make things worse the neckline slipped down all day when it wasn't slipping sideways off my shoulder. I am not going to wear it again.

I do a lot of mix and matching, but I don't pre-try every single combination. It's strange how even familiar pieces can behave unpredictably in new combinations!

Have you had any surprises lately?
