Nice outfits! I love the style of the blazer, and the rolled jeans add a lot to the outfit. And the outfit with the floral dress has a nice retro flavor, maybe because of the sandals? :)

I am not help with taking photos, since I don't post WIWs. All I can say is that it appears that your light source is behind you in these pics, which can make you look dark. Can you find a way to get the light source in front of you?

Ok, I think a tripod or tripod substitute might work. I can crop and play around. I think outside for the next ones!!

I can see how the photos can help hone my eye, believe me there are several that I could not show because I realised the jeans and boots were stumpifying or that the proportions were wrong. I know I could put these up to for suggestions and I may get to that point soon.

At the moment my WIW are to slowly gain confidence, and to give others an idea of what I currently wear, so that in time my style can improve through my own ideas and suggestions from the forum. I am learning a lot already from you all and appreciate the feedback.

The deep cuffs and boots are very cool-girl. I quite like 'em. The dress is also really good.

I'm very picture and lighting challenged. For awhile, I resorted to the ladies lounge, but now I'm on a floor where the lounge lights only come on after everyone goes home for the evening (I discovered this working late one evening).

If I get a picture, I call it a win and quit while I'm ahead.

Yay for some pics! I really like both your outfits. A dress with pockets in summer is a dream. And the jeans outfit (both ways) is right after my heart. My favourite combination.

For photos, it really can be tricky. I also live in an older home, without any neutral backgrounds or very good sight lines, and even outdoors there are lots of shadows and weird visual effects.

When I started I tried all kinds of crazy systems -- asking my husband or daughter to take photos, trying to use a self-timer on a table (photos were super blurry and at the wrong angle). Many issues.

Finally I broke down and asked for a simple tripod for our DSLR and set it up in the bedroom. It's very easy for me to snap a picture with the self- timer now. The lighting isn't always great and I have to adjust it and crop the picture, but again, that only takes a second or two.

When I travel I use my phone and take photos in dressing room or hotel mirrors. The photo quality is not as good but sometimes it's acceptable.

You look really nice in both outfits! For the jeans outfit, I think I like them better unrolled than rolled from what I can see, but that may just be me. I especially love the dress -- that print just looks amazing on you.

I'm not great at taking pictures, so not much in the way of advice. I do use a self-timer app on my cell phone sometimes so I can take pictures that aren't right in front of a mirror, and I sometimes tweak the settings on pictures before I post so to make the colors look truer to life or lighten things so more details are visible.

I think your WIWs look good! I like the jeans cuffed and the dress looks great with the sandals. The pictures could be improved by being by zooming in so that you appear closer to the camera, but I will leave to the photo experts to tell you how.

I like the rolled jeans too! And that looks like a perfect summer dress.

I feel the same with photos, and I am sure everyone here has experienced that too -- outfits look much different in motion on a live body. So don't worry about that!

I really love the rolled jeans version of the outfit. The roll adds interest and the big rolls are trending. Nicely done!

The dress is pretty on you with the cute sandals. Nice and summery.

As about the photos, I don't have a tripod either. So I keep the camera on my dressing table ad put it on a self timer 10 sec mode. I am sure your SLR has this facility. I also see a white chest of drawers in the room where you have taken the outfit pic. You could possibly put your cam over it and put it on self timer. Make sure to adjust the zoom level so the entire outfit is captured. That's how I do it anyway

I have been trying to do a few WIW...but gosh I find it a challenge. Why is this so?

1) I am not that fond of having my photo taken at the best of times. Maybe I am delusional but I always think I look better in real life than I do in a photo!
2) We have a character home with lots of wood, and not quite the right full length mirror. The ones here are taken in my son's room.
3) I have two sons and a DH that are reluctant photo takers.

I think the answer is a tripod and to take pics outside. So many of you have lovely well lit WIW - mine look dark and blurry. I do have options - an IPAD, a Smartphone and a great SLR. Our house is on a street with lots of foot traffic and we currently have builders here.

Anyway here are a couple of WIW. They are quite different looks but I feel good in both of them although in general I am not a floral person.

1) Today- a black knit blazer, a silky tee in snake print cobalt and black, faded straight leg jeans, and moto boots. I tried rolling them to show off the boot but was not convinced so wore them down. I have considered shortening the jeans but sometimes wear them with a higher heel so have not done so.

2 & 3 The end of the NZ summer - so about four-five months ago when I was experimenting for YLF. A summer dress that I bought for Christmas Day but wore casually a lot in summer. It has pockets! Excuse the stickers all over the mirror - they have been removed now.

4) With jeans rolled, shows the top and blazer better too.

So the Lab part of the question - how can I make my pics better (aside from clean the mirror!)

I am also open to comments on the outfits themselves.
