I love your wardrobe and the very unique and personal way you dress E. I like the colours here, and all of the dressmaker details in these clothes. The only thing throwing me off is the long tied bow. I think I'd prefer it with a long necklace , as Angie says, a la Anthropologie style. :) Something aged, or vintagey with a stone. That would look great !

Anthropolgie needs to hire you and your sweet doggie to model for them. Look at you in #5. SO adorable. To my eye, the proportions totally work. xo

Thnx Diana!

Jackie, they’re Frye. I got them on supersale from 6pm.com last year. :D

Claire, usually I wear it as a blouse tucked into a skirt, thus avoiding the whole issue! You might not be able to tell, but the eyelet pane on the hem has holes cut out of it, hence it would be fairly obscene as a dress. I’m not at all long legged, only 5’3” w a very long torso, so short legged would be a fairer description! I just tend to love leg shortening looks like rolling my skinnies, so I blatantly ignore leg lengthening advice most of the time. hehe I do have one shorter tunic I could try w the same trousers. But really I’m wondering if it’s even worth the effort, as the vast majority of my closet is *not* tunics for a reason. You know?

Thank you Beth Ann! That’s interesting because the only way for these to be more fitted is if they become body con skinnies.

You look terrific, E. I love the color palette and the textures in the tunic. I like it best with the jacket. For some reason, without the jacket, I'm looking for slimmer, more fitted pants.

I love the colors on you E, and your booties. Love the skinnies. It looks very much like a short dress than a tunic to me (semantics maybe, but it's a vibe i get). How else do you wear this dress? I am not skilled in the ways of dress over pants, so I'm the last person that should comment...I would be starting from absolute scratch if I tried this look. All I have to go on are Stacy and Clinton's voices in my head saying, "shorten the top to crotch level so we don't loose the leg line." But that's just one way of looking at things. I'm coming at this from a very Western mindset, but according to Una you have the Indian proportions correct. I think you are long legged, too, no? That can't hurt!

Thanks RetailGirl! Sounds like you have a great mother. Mine always sewed my Halloween costumes & made my First Communion dress.

Alasse, it sounds like the majority agrees re: the bow. Thanks!

Ok BJ. I’ll try to get some other pictures; I think the plain tunic makes the proportions look a bit weird. But that might be my bias.

Aubergine, I could try a pendant necklace too! As I said to BJ, I’ll try to get some more pics, so as to get more feedback.

Isn’t it a neat jacket ABC?

AG, I tried it with scarves first to look more Indian! I’ll get some pics of it like that & see what you think. I’m still not completely converted, but I like it a lot more than with leggings!

Well, I am flattered and humbled! And impressed! The only issue I see is the bow, although Indian outfits have a chuni or dupatta (scarf) so are not clutter-free. Maybe you could do a different sort of neck décor? Otherwise, I don't see why you'd ever think these proportions were wrong for you - you look wonderful! Are you converted?

I really like the tunic and leggings on you! Especially in that soft, harmonious color combination. The low-contrast booties and the jacket look great with the whole outfit, too.

I know you love your bows, but I also almost want to see the outfit without the bow, so the lines of the outfit can stand out more. I wonder if a long pendant necklace would work instead so you can get a little added interest and vertical line action in a more streamlined way?

the bow is throwing me...i prefer the jacket + bow over the tunic. i like the simplicity of the tunic without the bow. i need to think about it.

Those trousers do a great job reminding the viewer of Una's Indian leggings; I think that's the way to go. #5 looks a bit too maximal to my eye (probably the bow).

You look great...the proportions work on you. I love that gray jacket. I'm like you...a sucker for details. My favorite details are tucks and pleats, any interest on the back of a jacket, like a peplum or belt, shoulder buttons, I could go on! My mother made many of my clothes, growing up, and she had a great eye for detail. As do you!

I feel bad that between daily WIW posts & replying to comments on my previous ones, I end up looking like a bit of a forum hog. Sorry about that!

So, I don't really wear tunics. I don't think the tunic & leggings formula is an easy shape with my body, or perhaps with my style. Something almost always feels off about them, and the couple that I do have I mainly wear as tops tucked into skirts or under dresses. But I really liked AG's Diwali outfit, so I wondered how a tunic would look on my with slouchier skinnies instead of leggings. So I pulled out this tunic and paired it with my newish skinny grey trousers. Then I started adding scarves; while I tried a couple different weight & style scarves and liked both, I ended up going with a neck tie instead, so that the pretty yoke on the tunic was still visible. Usually I roll or cuff my skinnies, but I decided to try 'extending the leg line' this time and left them long, pairing them with booties of a fairly similar colour. It was a bit chilly out, so I needed a topper, and after a bit of fussing I decided on this vintage wool one. I love the little details on vintage items: look at the piping & little self-covered buttons this has! *happy sigh* I pulled on the mitts as my hands get cold first whenever it's chilly, but I don't know why they're so far down in the picture. Whoops! I know it'd look better if you could see my fingers. Anyway, I was happy enough with this outfit to wear it for the day, as it reminded me a bit of a Toast look, but I remain skeptical of tunics on me.

I titled this outfit lab because it's a new silhouette for me and not one I'm emotionally invested in. So feel free to be perfectly frank: does this work on me? Would you suggest a different way of wearing tunics for me? I have a fairly extensive closet, so suggest away (I'm much more limited on footwear)! I look forward to your feedback & always appreciate it.
