Loving outfit in #1! I have kept some of my square toes, too. Firstly, I have a broad forefoot, and they allow my toes to take their proper space. I think they still work when they are well designed, as these are.

Thanks, Diana for the pics. I think you look longest in the skinnies, too. I should try this with my photos, because I think that my bootcuts make me look, well, skinnier.

Viewing this quickly on an iPhone, but to my eye you look keg guest in the last pic. Fascinating and irritating (the thought that above- and below- knee have to work exactly to hit that sweet, leggy spot).

You DO look really leggy here! I think this is a great signature look for you. And hooray for heels that don't hurt!

I think the thing with bootcuts is that they have to be long enough (and we all know what a hassle it is to get perfect PPL with every pair of shoes) and the knee break has to be high enough. It's not a big problem for me because I have long thighs, but for women with short thighs or just shorter legs overall (so they'd have to chop off a lot of the bottom) the knee break ends up too low, which can be stumpifying.

So, since I just made a collage with a bunch of outfits all in a row, I was curious and looked at how long my legs looked with different jeans... I think you might be right. Compare #3 (light skinnies with contrasting tall boots), #6 (medium wash bootcuts), #8 (light washed distressed baggy straights with cuff), and #9(dark skinnies with dark boots). Which do you think looks longest?

Mochi, you look fab in this outfit! Very glad you kept the boots. Your jeans, boots and jacket are all 10's to my eyes.

I'll cut straight to the chase. I realize why I like skinnies on me. They make me look leggy. And if you're already 5'9, 5'10" as Charlotte Gainsbourg probably is, skinnies might make you look like you're walking on stilts. It's just my theory.

I thought so too but I see so many draggy-hem saggy-butt teenage girls wearing them, or alternately women my age in Danskos and bootcuts hemmed to ankle length. YUCK!

Cute boots! I love how shiny they are. Adds something special and they go great with the jacket.

I was under the impression that bootcuts were supposed to be universally flattering...?

The rules on bootcuts confuse me so much. I think it's easy to look dumpy in them if they are too short, too saggy, too big, too tight, too low.... more so than with other cuts.

You look great, Mochi! It's only "eh" if you are feeling too formulaic, otherwise it's a signature look!

I wear the same things all the time, eh.

Skinnies: Gap
Shirt: Nic and Zoe, Nordstroms
Sweater: thrifted, but lovely cashmere and almost too soft, white, pretty and girlish but I'm enjoying the feel of it
Jacket: Ann Taylor
Boots: Franco Sarto

A few years back I hired a stylist (yes I did, really) who went through my stuff and told me these boots were dated. Because of the square toe, or something like that. I'm very glad I didn't listen to her and kept them. They are the highest heel I have. Now, the funny thing is, this shoe would normally be killing the ball of my foot within about 30 minutes of wear, and I was happily prancing around in them all morning. I'm home now so they're off my feet, but not because they hurt; they did not at all. I'm so Team Anti-Heel so am very surprised by this. I have not lost much weight. I may be slightly more muscular but how would that make a difference? Whatever it is, I finally feel like I know what it's like to be able to be in heels without feeling like I'm torturing myself. It's weird.

And the other totally random thing (I'm attaching here, because I must get off my computer after this). I was reading a remainder-bin book I got called Ellements of Style, Elle interviews with a bunch of celeb women about their style. And anyway the remark in passing about one of the women, who goes for a bootcut style of jean because she is "tall and rangy." So I give up trying to figure out the rules. I thought bootcuts were supposed to balance you out if you were short, or busty, or short and busty, or whatever. There is no science to it, clearly.

ETA: forgive my hair...I would like to get a sleek hair transplant. I'd trade some of my bedhead but I suspect you wouldn't want it.
