I agree it’s a strong look and I like to wear clothes with that vibe sometimes. The next day I might put on something totally different like in my first WIW post. I think people in Lisbon and Portugal in general tend to mind their own business regarding certain matters (and others, not so much). They don’t tend to stare much, even if you don’t quite fit in. They don’t make a big deal out of it. The downside (or upside, depending on your temperament) is that strangers are less likely to approach you to start a conversation, therefore making it harder to meet new people and make friends. Compared to Brazil, Rio especially, where complete strangers often feel compelled to give your their unsolicited opinion on anything, including the weather, politics or your physical appearance, Europe is a breath of fresh air (or gust of icy wind). But Bairro Alto has a relaxed, casual atmosphere. It’s mostly younger (16 -26) people who go in groups, often with their school friends, drifting from bar to bar. Many of them are tourists/foreigners. My clothes weren’t really that different from what the other girls were wearing in terms of length or amount of skin shown. I even saw some women wearing skirts and shorts over their bathing suits, which is very common where I lived before but I don’t see it often here. Traded the over the over-the-knee socks for ones that weren’t visible above my boots (the flatter ones in the second photo, both pairs from Zara). The socks were just keeping my legs warm since we’re going through a major heat wave this week and the AC was on full power inside. Outside it was so hot my suit was already totally dry by the time we decided to go out, so I just threw some<br /> -Forever 21 suede shorts<br /> and a<br /> -Bershka lace top<br /> Over it. We braved the steep streets and bumpy sidewalks of the Bairro Alto neighborhood, which has a very vibrant nightlife. I had a great time but I felt out of breath a few times, nothing out of the ordinary considering the terrain and fact that we we walked around a good distance. </p>
