It was originally a bank building and is an architecturally unique Italianate design. DH and I had lunch here the first time we visited Port Hope, long before we ever thought we would live here. I do also but sadly they frequently close around here because so many don’t buy enough at their establishment to keep them going. I have lived through 5 such closings in 10 years within 25 miles of my home. Depressing.<br /> RE: Murdoch mysteries.- I am addicted to that show. My DD gave me seasons 1-10 on DVD for Christmas last year and I am currently watching season 11 under the heading on “ the artful detective “ on direct tv ovation channel. Funny thing- a few seasons back - one of the show’s story line was about orphan home in Toronto (girls) and another in Peterborough<br /> ( for boys). My grandfather was in a Peterborough orphanage as a lad. Hit real close to home.<br /> Between seeing those yummy looking dishes you were making and filming MM nearby- I definitely have to get up there! Then downtown to pick up a book at 'Furby's' our town's independent bookstore.</p> <p>We live in a picturesque little community where the downtown's historical buildings have survived modernization and are now protected. Every now and then one of the downtown parking lots turns into a big campsite for a film crew shooting for TV or film. 'Murdoch Mysteries' - a television drama about a police detective at the turn of the century - now in it's 11th season (!) routinely films here! </p>
