You are a riot! I can understand what you describe, I think. I feel conspicuous when I try to wear too much white, or white that is too bright for me. You do not look like an iceberg--LOL! I like the white outfit a lot. You had a fabulously stylish week. I wondered how the white coat would look over outfit 4, too! My favorite outfit is the last one, with the purple coat--you look so good in those colors, and I love the richness of the whole outfit on you.

You're sooooo cool, Ann. I love all of your looks! Those skirted leggings were made for you! You look like you could bad-a$$ hop on your motorcycle and ride away! Brave you in the white coat! I can see how you might feel like you stand out - but in the best way. You look fab. Just like that inspiration pic you posted awhile back. Oh and blurple again. I don't know why that word always makes me giggle

Thanks ladies for all the positive input/commiseration!

Ummlila- No, not the same bus but I cover that route. Haven't ever seen them though...

Suz- Wow, you don't miss a trick! Yes, the coat is the final piece to allow a white out from head to toe. I would love some wool slacks but recognize that I would get exactly one wear per dry cleaning run...which I don't really relish the thought of. My winter white cords have to be washed every other wear or so, and huh, who'd a thought that wearing them on a rainy day with short booties was a bad idea? (faceplate) Also, interesting that you noted the soft neutral theme. I'm contemplating another blog post on the subject, as I'm finding myself drawn to the combo of white/silver/light grey. Turns out it's not a new thing, I'm just late in the realization. Stay tuned...and I love that phrase "You are neither a businessman nor a gangster"!

Gryffin-you are soooooo right. Comfort zone is such a funny little place that we make for ourselves...talk about an artificial construct ;-)

Kkards- you've hit the nail on the head, I do like structure in my coats, but forward is really a new thing for me, mostly because I've historically spent a fair amount on classic coats so as to maximize CPW. As I age, I've gravitated to jewel tones, which is interesting because in the 80s/90s, I was all about pastels and not that much has changed in my coloring.

Angie- thanks for the pep talk. I DO plan on continuing the stretch to the point where I don't even think about what I'm wearing. I find that even after all these years, I still have some residual self-consciousness. Funny, but not surprising that Greg 'gets' your need for color.

Hah, Suz. Our hubbies can high five. YES. It was the JC coat. I have two ink coats already - military and Burberry - and Greg loves those. I guess because they have pretty trims and are made of softer fabrics. But the ink man coat on the other hand, made Greg unhappy. SO ironic because black, grey and ink are his happy colours. (Your new grey coat has an aspect of "Pretty" and as you said - looks sharp. I bet Mr. Suz is positively reacting to those attributes).

Ha, Angie! That is hilarious. I was actually considering that same coat (the J. Crew one?) I really liked it...in theory. But I could hear Mr. Suz in my head saying something very similar -- he would say, "too dark, too somber, you are not a businessman or gangster....I like your red coat!" (Fortunately he also likes the grey coat I got instead even though it is not a happy happy colour -- at least it is light and has the asymmetrical details making it very "sharp.")

Ann, you have to wear what feels right. Listen to your instincts. Perhaps you need to bite the bullet and persevere for a while. Things might feel more "normal" after a few outings. Or, you need to get back into your dark neutrals. FWIW, I love all your outfits - bright or neutral.

I also live in Seattle and wear shockingly bright red, pink, citron and white coats for half of the year. It makes me very happy, and soothes my soul. YES. I stand out big time, and look radio active, as Greg has described it. You are not doing a disservice to others, being disrespectful or inappropriate by wearing colours that make you happy. (Unless of course you were going to a funeral and the like - I'm sure you know what I mean).

p.s. I brought home an ink and white pinstripe man coat last year that I quite liked. I showed it to Greg who said: "That's not a happy coat. I'm used to you wearing happy coats. That's your thing. I don't really like it". And that was enough for me to return the coat. I prefer looking radio active.

I did so relate to your description of feeling self conscious wearing something outside your comfort zone. As a person who regularly makes a spectacle of herself wearing giant hats, you wouldn't believe how self conscious I can be wearing certain loud colors or prints.
Regardless you look fab. I think the white coat is terrific and do not agree that you look like an iceberg (although that line did make me laugh). Still love the asymmetrical skirt on you. The pointy boots are just the thing to make the crinkle sweatshirt and pants look fashion sporty rather than just sporty. Love your other coats too!

Oh, wow. These are amazing! Absolutely stellar. The white coat is gorgeous on you and I think the whole outfit is beautiful. I do know what you mean, though -- there is something about going out in white the first few times that feels...I don't know, as if you are a walking ambulance or something. But truly, if people do stare in this case they are probably just thinking how terrific you look!

Love your soft neutrals --- the greys, the silvers, the pewters. Such beautiful wintery blends. I remember that winter white inspiration photo you posted a few months ago -- you now have all the ingredients and then some!!

All your outfits are nice, but my favorites are with you wearing purple, esp. The stripes.

Having recently migrated into non-black long coat territory, I have to admit to a certain amount of trepidation. I wear individual pieces that push the envelope, especially in my neighborhood and lifestyle of jetsetting (on mass transit) to downtown Seattle, a city that is not know for being particularly concerned with fashion. The cobalt coat from last week's post was attention grabbing enough http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....?replies=4. I am probably way too much in my head on this, but if I had to describe it, I'd say that I strive for outfits that other people who notice these things might say (also usually in their heads) "Hey, she looks pulled together." Outfits that won't cause whiplash or snow blindness, really. So this week, I amped up my game with a recent find...a Winter white coat in a fabric similar to the cobalt one, that I found on major sale at Express. You know the deal, if I can't bear to wear it for long, no major outlay of cash. Can I just say, a bit off topic, but both of these newer, inexpensive and not particularly well made coats have really narrow sleeves that I'm digging. It looks less like I'm wearing DH's coat than my more classic tailored man coats. Anyway, stepping out my front door in a white coat made me feel like I had a giant target on my back (and front, side, etc.) and I had to give myself a rather serious pep talk to stride up the street with my head high. Lordy...I've done far riskier things than wait for a bus looking like an iceberg, so I dunno what my deal is. Well, nobody fell out of their seats when I boarded the bus (which might have caused a fistfight over the spot) and I even garnered a compliment from my boss, who is much more conservative/classic than I am in her wardrobe choices. In looking at the pics, I'm not sure about the cowl neck sweater in terms of figure flattery, but I can tune the ensemble next time. I will say that any shoes I tried with less substance than my combat boots made me look like I might tip over at any moment...Anyway, without further navel gazing, here are a few of the outfits I wore this week. Thanks for looking...
