There is no winter hardiness to those plants, so folks think they can't grow lavender...but it is just that they aren't getting the right cultivars.</p> <p>I also learned that lavender needs to be cut down hard to do well. Deadhead the blooms when they are spent, and cut down the plant by 1/3 by mid August to give it 6-8 weeks to get new green leaves going before the winter.</p> <p>I learned lots more, but do not wish to bore folks with a prolonged post. There was a lecture before the tour and the spouse and I both riffled through our purses for pens and pads of paper.
