Fashintern- Velvet can be made of several different fibers- silk, rayon, and even polyester. Not sure I would say velvet is "better", it is just different. Velvet is fluid and has a lot of drape (the polyester less so) so better for certain types of garments such as tops or fuller loose fitting pants. Velveteen is mostly cotton and firmer with little drape so you would use it for more structured garments like jackets or pants.

Fashintern, I've seen the stretchy velour tops called 'terry velour'. I also had a garment that was labelled silk velvet, and silk was indeed featured in the fabric content. I used to think that velvet didn't contain much cotton, but that velveteen was predominantly cotton. I'm going to conclude that the pants are velveteen (like the rabbit!)

May I follow up with another question?
If velveteen has a higher cotton content and velvet is thinner, then why does velvet have the rep of being better? Also, what is velvet made of?

In any event, I should go back to anywhere I’ve mentioned my holiday Ts and called them what the label said—velvet. Comments here convince me that my first thought, that they are velour, is probably correct.

Love the combo of funky socks and sparkly sneakers! Also, what Lisa said: velour is a knit; velveteen is cotton-rich and sturdy (the most like corduroy, or a plusher version of moleskine); velvet is the most luxurious -- more shine, more drape, deeper pile, and more delicate fabrication. Of course, I see things mis-labeled all the time. Most often clingy velour tops called "velvet tees" or similar.

It's the cut of the pile (and fibre content) that differentiates. Velveteen is high % , if not all, cotton . And, velour is a knit, whereas the other two are woven. Great looking pants on you !

I think velvet has a deeper nap than velveteen, but both ore woven fabrics, and velour is knit.

The top is new from this summer and I usually wear it with blue jeans, white jeans, or navy shorts. This is the first time with wine coloured bottoms.

Question: what is the difference between velvet and velveteen, or even velour? These pants have a low soft pile and a high cotton content with very little 'give' or stretch. They are not stiff, and wrinkles brush out fairly easily. They feel like corduroy without the wale.

Boho lite top - YEST
Merlot velveteen(?) ankle pants - Calvin Klein
Patterned wool socks - Smartwool
Silver sneakers - Converse

Thanks for looking!
