It's my daughter's belt and she normally wears it with low-rise jeans so it goes around her hips, not her waist. Even if she wanted to pass this belt along to me, I wouldn't bother to have it shortened because it's not real leather and last night it made me too sweaty. Add to belt wish list: must be real leather. </p> <p>Thanks all for the boosts. I am mostly at peace with my shape, after decades wishing I was a pretty pear like my mom and my sister. Temperature wise, this was perfect. But wow, with the photos, I fear this dress shows off my IT shape too much? With jacket it's okay, without... do I look like a line backer with no hips?</p> <p>I was attempting to do the hip-slung belt idea here. This is a belt my daughter left behind when she went to college. I tried it higher, but it wasn't comfortable (especially sitting), so I loosened it up. Any lower and proportionately it looked wrong to me. I don't normally wear a belt with this dress; this was an experiment.</p> <p>ETA: this dress has ruching down one side, the right side in the photos. I know it's hard to see detailing with black outfits. Just want to point that out so you don't think it's oddly bunching or anything. That is deliberate design.
