@Celia Yeah, cameras don't do colours justice! Sometimes a royal purple can appear as royal blue!

@Diana thank you! I took Angie's advice on tops on my boot cut/flares post so I bought a couple pairs of fluid tops. The supposedly fluid tops I purchased previously (pre-OMG PANTS!!! era) did not have as beautiful of a drape as these Portofinos. If I do decide to incorporate this look into my personal style, I'll be stocking up on these shirts!

Thanks for your input on Naots! I just purchased my second pair of boots today (first pair is arriving next week). I have a job search class where I'll need to look interview-appropriate and I really do need a dressy pair of booties. I can't believe how comfy they are!

These are the ones I got today:
http://www.6pm.com/naot-footwe.....st-leather

(I wish 6PM shipped to Canada. I paid regular price but was told Naots last a long time!)

@Elly: too bad about the Clarks not getting much wear and yes, I tried a chunky bootie with these pants at the Naot store and they do have a balancing effect!

@Suz: thanks! I was surprised the layered necklaces worked out for me. I'm getting more later on. You just can't beat $4 a piece!

I recognize the shoes--- I had the same issue with a pair of them I tried on in-store, so I opted for a pair of clarks with a higher heel instead--- no rubbing, but they are by far my highest heeled shoes, and don't get as much wear because of it. I think a chunky pair of booties that your skinnies go into might also provide the same visual weight as tall boots, but not be as warm.

I like this, it's sleek and sophisticated while still being easy and effortless looking due to the fluid fit of the top. Too bad about the shoes not being comfy, I totally sympathize. FWIW, I have 2 pairs of tall Naot boots and I love them both. My grey patent ones have 2.5" heels and they are so well designed that they feel like flats (but with better arch support!).

I also don't find it easy to take good quality photos, I always feel like screaming 'No, the color is much prettier in reality!'

Sorry about the top guys! The jeans are actually a dark denim blue but it doesn't translate well.

The top ends at the crotch area.

I need to start taking better pictures and probably get over my camera shyness!

All black outfits are harder to see in photos, we cannot really see where the top ends or how the leggings really fit.
It is good that you are enjoying your style journey.

It is hard to tell where the top ends - that is key to me. From what I can see it is very nice. Interesting thoughts on your style journey - it's a process!

I am taking quite a step here as I finally activated my YLF blog. Please bear with the not-so-pro photos!

So above are looks I've been sporting in the last month since I've been through my "ZOMG I CAN WEAR PANTS!!!!" phase (I'm still on that phase). I've been feeling lukewarm about the fluid blouse look since the end of last year, often feeling self-conscious of how I look on my side view (I'm busty, so it looks like the blouse just hangs straight down, making me look a lot wider). Lately, I've been trying collared fluid blouses, and so far, so good... I'm still not 100% committed to the look.

I should have worn tall boots with this outfit, but the temperatures were rising to 20+ degrees Celsius (I'm Canadian) up here so I decided to wear sandals. I am not fond of the leggings/leans over long top look unless I have tall boots on. Makes me feel a bit off-balanced and too top heavy. The sandals, despite being a comfort brand were rubbing my heels and causing callouses. I bought them online 2 years ago, and though they are more comfortable than most of my shoes, the rubbing makes it a tad uncomfy. My feet are my fussiest body parts so I'm going to be reliant on a few comfort brands from here on: primarily Naots. I have a pair of tall Naot boots coming my way next week. Expensive, but foot comfort and health have now become important to me, especially since I walk everywhere!

The jewelry/accessories are another experiment but I quite like this look. I normally like to wear dark, goth/vintage/Victorian-ish inspired jewelry with an edgy/rocker feel. I tend to prefer statement pieces over dainty delicate ones, but layering dainty little necklaces seem to have its own edge. I love how I added a lightning bolt pendant with the traditionally ultra-feminine heart and locket.

Overall, I'm still feeling this outfit out. In this style journey of mine, I want to make sure that all my pieces are comfortable yet aesthetically pleasing to me and expresses my personality. Comfort is definitely a plus in this outfit, but inner comfort as far as my personal style goes? I'd say only in my accessories.

And sorry about my hair. It's an overgrown pixie cut that's almost shoulder length. It will be updated in two weeks!

PS: I was in a thrift store that happened to have a charity event. It was nice! None of the clothes I tried worked for me though :(

Blouse: Express (Portofino)
Leans: American Eagle Jeggings
Sandals: Jambu
Necklaces: Forever 21
Earrings: Shoppers a Drug Mart

I'd definitely love to hear from you as to whether or not this style works. Objectivity in my outfits is not something I always have so feedback is welcomed!
