Such fab outfits! How do you do it? I really like the more nipped in shapes of the first two blazers so I think it may be worth having a bit of shape put into your Smythe blazer. The more tailored shapes are stunning on you.

Great interpretations! I'm impressed that you have three jackets that can work with this ensemble. I really like the jacket in #1 and the colors. Outfit #2 is a great option with lighter colors - I really like the white top and bottoms. I like the jacket in #3 as is, but it really depends on whether you think you would get more wear out of it, if it was tailored.

I really appreciate your kind input, everyone, thank you! I think that the first outfit is my favorite, too.

I think the reason the Smythe blazer hasn't been worn much so far is the lifestyle- i is quite dressy while I usually dress fairly casually. But it is fun having a slightly more masculine piece for a change. I know that it is very different from equestrian jackets and my considerations of taking the waist in are not in attempt to go that way. It is simply the matter of fit. There seem to be different opinions about it and I need to think about it some more.

Love them, all beautifull and perfect interpretation of Angie's formula, but nr 1 is a delicious fallish outfit, such a smooth, eye pleasing color and proportions combo head to toe!

All three of these are terrific, Tanya. I love the soft silhouette and print of the H&M blouse with the first blazer (and I'm a sucker for the comfort of ponte, even if wool is more elegant). As for the Smythe, I think I'd embrace the boyfriend. It works well as is, particularly when left open, and equestrienne jackets have different piecing and seam lines.

Well my vote goes to change the Smythe blazer so that it is more shaped to your waist. I do like the fit of it currently, but it definitely is more of a 'boy' blazer than equestrian and given the sombre colour, I can see why this is not really a go to piece for you currently. I think a more feminine silhouette works better on you.

YLF Tanya. No 1 is my fave. I like the Smythe blazer as is. To my eye the fit issues that you describe are not apparent when you wear it open. Do you wear it closed much? I would only risk having it altered if you like to wear it closed and you really trust the tailor.

Thank you very much, ladies. I will try the Smythe blazer with flares.

My question about potentially altering the Smythe blazer is about the waist fit, not length. It is very straight/no waist tailoring, which I think is intentional as it is called "Boy Blazer". I was wondering about adding darts/having it taken in for a bit me waist definition. But if you think it looks good as is than I will leave it alone, I certainly do not want to risk it ruined.

Here are a couple of different interpretations of the tailored equestrian ensemble, worn about two weeks ago when it was posted. I really want a proper Smythe plaid equestrian jacket, but it is not in a budget at a current time. My three versions of the ensemble were built around three different jackets all of which have some of the elements of the dream jacket but not all:
1. Jacket #1 is a burgundy ponte Gibson blazer in a proper equestrian cut with the peplum at the back
2. Jacket #2 is a plaid navy H&M with suede elbow patches, tailored at the waist, but without the pretty peplum back,
3. Jacket #3 is my only Smythe, bought at huge dicount at the beginning of 2015. Even though it is a different cut from the one I wanted- it is called a " Boy Blazer" and it is pretty straight - I couldn't resist it at about ~ $100. I am wondering if I should have the waist taken in or leave it as is - what do you think? I have barely worn it and hope to remedy that this season.

The outfits:

1. The first equestrian outfit (#1-2) was based on jacket #1 and Angie's Capsule #2 in the blog post. It combines the jacket with a high neck Victorian H&M blouse, black cropped ponte Halogen pants, pewter ET booties and black BR bag. It was worn on Friday 11/5 for a day of shopping with my best friend who was visiting from Boston. I tried very hard not to buy anything, but the choker necklace at the end of the Finds followed me home :)

2. The second outfit was based on jacket #2 and left outfit in the blog post photo. It combines the jacket with white boatneck AT sweater, white cropped C/E jeans, cognac Gap belt, cognac BR bag and tan Report booties. It was worn on Saturday 11/6 for a fun reunion brunch with my visitors as well as joint local friends.

3. The final outfit was based on jacket #3 and right outfit in the blog post image. It combines the charcoal Smythe jacket with black striped BR turtleneck, black cropped BR Sloan pants, ET booties and cognac BR bag. It was pretty cool outside so I topped it all withe J. Crew black mixed-media cocoon coat. This was worn on Monday 11/7 to work.
