Your outfits look fabulous! The tunics and the various leggings and pants you sport are just wonderful! I also love the colors! The blue and the red are particularly beautiful! Too bad you had to come home to a power outage!

I love your travel outfit - looks comfy and fab. Your formal outfit in #4 is perfect - that blue is stunning on you and that stole is beautiful! The accessories you've put with it are terrific. I actually like the tunic on you with the leggings. You look great in all of these!

Manidipa, I LOVE your kurta outfits... they are so flattering and breezy. Also love the belted outfit which looks very professional and on duty. I would wear my Indian clothes all the time but they are not warm enough for winter here... In summer I wear them to work - no matter how casual they are, people here think I'm all dressed up!

That blue is beautiful on you, and the stole is really gorgeous. I love the textural stripes on it, and the earthy color palette combined with that jewel tone blue. And your shoes and earrings...wow. I love the whole thing! You look fabulous!

Christieanne, that tunic is too sheer on its own anyway, so there's a slip under it. I actually chose it for not being too cool. Airplanes are *cold* --- the teenaged boy next to me was shivering for two solid hours My issue tends to be not that you can see *me* if I bend over, but that you can see the slip through the 'keyhole'. Am I being too fussy?

And no, wonderful as that sounds, we don't get to go back anonymously. There simple isn't that much money in magazines here! There's exactly one magazine, across interest and sectors, that does truly properly anonymous and paid-as-a-regular-punter reviews (in this case restaurants): Time Out.

A few others do a 'hybrid' that's like a mystery shopper gig: the restaurant is told someone will come this month, but doesn't know who or when until they reveal themselves at the end of a meal and thus do not have to actually pay for their meal. I do a few of those.

But for hotels, I fear there are no takers for anonymity among travel magazines --- too expensive for the publishers to finance check-outs. At best, regular contributors like me (or magazine staff) might go on their own holiday (out-of-pocket expenses) and write about a place they stayed at which they're happy to recommend --- the one I write for has a special column for these articles.

You do indeed look effortlessly chic in your travel capsule. I really like the red/pink on you - the collar design and the color are beautiful on you. Also, your evening outfit is a gorgeous color and design. I don't see the last tunic as immodest but how is when bending over? I agree that can be problemental and the last thing you need in your climate is layering a cami underneath.
You wear color so well - these are deeper hues and not neon brights so maybe focus on those shades in the future?

Do you ever get sent back "undercover" to find out if the resort is living up to their original promise?

What a fabulous trip! Thanks for taking these pics for us while you were roughing it without electricity! That was making good use of your time during the outage.

I love, love LOVE 9 and 10! You look so good in anything tunic length which I cannot wear. The pinky-red linen shirt/dress is so sharp on you, and I can just imagine it with the animal print ballet flats. And the tunic with the low-ish neckline is SO beautiful on you. It looks fine (probably unless you bend over). Please keep it! All of your silver jewelry/hair ornaments are so exquisite. Fantastic job on this travel capsule!

You have a great sense of style, Mandipa! You look effortlessly stylish in all of these. The kurtas are my faves. I love the look of a woven tunic over leggings! Such a flattering silhouette. The blue one is especially gorgeous--your dad is quite the designer. The coral shirtdress is gorgeous on you too. I see nothing immodest about the neckline on the last dress either. You look fab!

Lyn, Helen --- yes, it can be exciting! And sometimes a little challenging as people are eager to have you there as soon as they open but are still working on teething troubles! Or think they *know* what should be showcased or said about a property... but, well, it's not what would attract the average tourist THIS trip, though, was lovely! And it *was* actually a near-5-star experience for a couple of hotel brands that are better known as economy/mid-range in the US and Europe --- chain hotels often DO have to step up their offerings in India, where no-service and self-service don't work too well.

Kiwichik, I'm pretty bad with polish. Also, fell out of the habit over a healing nail (still healing actually) for toes, and since I bake and get my hands stuck into dough a lot, feel unsure about having it on the hands. Maybe I'll buy some again some day... I'm know to be moody :-)

Beth Ann, thus far the choice is cotton vs silk vs polyester for tops & tunics. I'm not a fan of the latter Linen is only just starting to make a bit of an appearance. Leggings, well, the jersey-knit version of churidar is pretty new --- as in, developed over the last decade or less. That's as far as 'performance' has gone as yet! And believe me when I say I always have an eye out for a stylish gear shoes Right now, Crocs is about the limit of style here. They do a few non-traditional looks, but I'd love to see better colours and sleeker shapes still (I know Southeast Asia gets more of those already).

Greenglove, I'm working on the *really bright* colour. I've been a bit colour-shy for a couple of decades, so have some making up to do!

Oh and Classically Casual, I *think* we got the electricity back about an hour ago --- until it goes AWOL again! But at least the earthquake's sorted the storms out for a bit, so maybe it'll keep a while. An ill wind etc...

Very nice travel outfits, Mandipa! I love #4 also, although with the red tunic in #10. As you continue on your style journey -- Are there women in India who dress in kind of Indian-fusion styles? Are the leggings and kurtas available in wicking, performance fabrics in addition to wonderful (but wrinkly) cotton? Also, what about search (and it would take searching) for gearish sandals meant for water that have amazing style? I'm thinking style you might find at Patagonia or REI.

BTW -- the last neckline looks good to me. Sometimes, however, the problem "shows" itself when we bend over!

Thanks, ladies! I did manage to be comfy throughout, which is often priority No. 3 for me. Right after 'not looking like I just rolled out of bed and landed up' and 'not looking like I'm trying too hard because I don't often bother to, you know, get dressed or anything'.

Angie, you made me do a double-take Did not realize I was pattern mixing in #4! I was so focused on the pre-mixed patterns plus my extra addition to #1 and #10, I hardly read the mock-croc as a pattern. Which of course it is!

Love your evening outfit that blue looks absolutely wonderful on you and the photo of your hair with the silver ornament makes me envious of your lovely long hair. The only way you could have been any more perfect would have been to extend that luxurious looks to your finger and toe nails - hey but maybe that's gilding the lily you looked so good anyway.

My next favorite look is your flight home outfit love the surprise flats with what looks like a leopard print design.

You gorgeous girl! I really like what you put together for your trip. Particularity your evening outfit. The color is stunning and you so classy and elegant. The mock croc bag is a great addition to the more traditional outfit. And 9 is lovely also. Great color and very streamlined silhouette. and the Bohol tunic is very pretty and not too voluminous at at all.

I had one of my hotel reviews to do this Easter weekend. Not the comfiest time of month, but duty called and I flew!

It was HOT in Bangalore --- 33 degrees Celsius, or 91.4 Fahrenheit. I was glad I'd chosen loose tunics to skim over my bloated belly!

So here's what I wore:

#1-3 Travelling outfit that had to go straight from airport to lunch meeting and hotel tour since my flight was delayed.
- hand-printed cotton kurta (tunic)
- jersey-knit cotton churidar leggings in dark teal
- scrunchy gold-print teal scarf
- teal gladiator-ish shoes --- yes, the one I was supposed to throw away, but I wanted something walkable in for messy weather and dusty streets, and was very glad of these
- silver bangles and small studs in my ears

#4-8 was the change for the evening press conference and formal launch event (cocktail do, followed by dinner)
- blue shantung-style silk kurta (my Dad's handiwork)
- silk-cotton blend crushed white churidars
- hand-dyed and -woven silk stole from Cambodia, a gift from my SO's Mekong cruise last year
- brown mock-croc clutch
- thong sandal in blue, purple and grey
- pearl cocktail ring, enamelled earrings and wooden hair pin with silver clip

#9 I don't have a photo of the next day's outfit (mostly at leisure, enjoying the hotel, apart from lunch with the public relations team and the general manager for the property). But what I wore was identical to this, but for swapping out the shoes to my animal-print flats from the next outfit.

#10-14 Flight back home after breakfast.
- Very boho tunic/dress that ties in the back, is sheer but has its own slip. I'm on the fence about the modesty of the neckline. Does it look overpoweringly voluminous on me?
- Same brown leggings as in #9
- Animal-print ballet flats
- Same small stud earrings

Oh, and I carried a small black satin bag throughout --- just big enough to fit phone, wallet, notebook and small make-up pouch --- except at the evening do. Shown in #15. Didn't want a larger bag since the carry-on bag, with my laptop, was enough to
be lugging on one shoulder.

And if you're wondering how it is that the photos are taken at home, it's because I popped into these again just for your entertainment while sorting the laundry!

I came home to find we're in full hail and thunderstorm mode in the hometown. Which has meant no electricity for the last day and a half, because the power lines have been blown off course! We have back-up power from a generator, but it needs a couple of hours rest each day. So I had time to kill, away from the computer, washing machine and oven --- and decided to play dress-up :-p
