Volume on my volume isn't a personal favorite of mine. But I am all in when it comes to dress for yourself and yourself only. I believe all fashion rules are rather... recommendations and, as such, don't need to be followed if one feels in their guts the complete opposite. If you feel comfortable, I am sure you are going to wear the outfit with confidence; and a confidence boost is more than welcome on a day you've slept badly or too little, isn't it?

Ah, and royal blue is a gorgeous color. I love it and it looks very good on you.

Be kind to yourself! Firstly, the shade of blue is gorgeous, and doing wonderful things for your pretty (but slightly sad-looking) face! I consider this a timeless "arty" look, and, while I think perhaps the pants are a bit long, the volume over volume isn't swamping your frame. Finally, I think this kind of outfit looks even better IRL, because it flows and moves with you, and the camera can't catch the movement.

I totally understand the need to be comfy & how this can trump every other consideration. I love the top on you & yes I would prefer it with something less voluminous on the bottom - but you are the one who needs to be comfortable not me

I especially like the top on you! This VoV works because both fall softly. If one or the other were stiff, the look would overwhelm you.

Yes! I wear things that are "too young" and "too tight" and "too loose" and "too casual" and so on... because "projecting a certain image" or "controlling how others perceive me so that my body appears conventionally appealing (and avoiding appearing somehow unappealing)" is really only ONE aspect of dress; despite the societal pressure that this is the most important aspect - how other people react to how we present ourselves - it's not always and it shouldn't be. This week I fit into a t-shirt again I haven't been able to wear in years; I wore it with a casual skirt that has a yoga waistband, and I worried that "oh, you can see my belly in this" because the combo of the shirt and skirt outlined the stomach. But I've lost a lot of weight and I'm so happy I can wear these clothes that didn't fit me just three weeks ago, and I was comfortable. So how I felt was more important than how others might perceive me. In fact, feeling good made me more confident and I probably projected that, so does my visible belly outweigh my attitude?

Sally at Already Pretty has written about this before; here's a recent piece you might like? http://www.alreadypretty.com/2.....-good.html

I think it's awesome you posted this outfit even thinking it would be criticized. I think it's great you feel good in this. =) I think volume on volume is an interesting rule-break!

I think you pull it off. Of course, high heels would make it look more flattering. I'm not always after the traditionally flattering look either. This sure beats what many moms around here wear for the school run!

Hi Hill- the only sad thing in the photo is your face. The outfit looks really good. PS: husband needs some pointers on the well-known unwritten rule about inter generational clothing references. Looks cool.
To answer your question though- yes and know. On those days I end up in loose jeans, flats and a long sleeved T but only if I need to go to the shop or have a client visit my home office. If not I LOVE staying in a track pants and hoody ensemble- looking a lot like pyjamas. Got to have those days! Do you need one shortly?

Yes! I dress for myself essentially. Sometimes I really enjoy unconventional proportions in an outfit. In fact I will post one for you if I can find it. I love this on you Hil. I get that it is not conventionally flattering but I do like the volume on volume. YLF!

After I worked till almost 2am this morning on some cake orders and had to be up at 6 for the school run and my day job, I felt the need for absolute comfort.

I debated whether to even post this because I know that this is not a popular silhouette for me. I can see it too, yet I keep returning to it.

I know that if DH saw me in this he would hate it - he says I'm dressing like my mom - who quite frankly is über frumpy.

Are you happy to wear things that you know are not an ideal look for you just because you and only enjoy the look and feel?
