That is actually a great idea about the cardigan-- didn't think of it yet I've done just that this summer. I have a cardigan I love and while its not " shrunken" , it didn't seem fluid enough buttoned up. I eore it unbuttoned over a longer shell that was more drapey and ( to me, anyway!) the whole thing looked more relaxed and I got the extra coverage at the waist. I had used coordinating contrasting colors because the cardi is a pattern , but
monochrome would be even better.

Lyn D. Nice idea! I am rebuilding my scarf collection to include more in my light summer color palate. I probably have something in my old colors that would fit the bill and can try this.

My color consultant told me that with my small features I should be wearing primarily solid colors, very little print, or if I use print to keep the pattern small. I was so excited to find a scarf that was in my color palate that I decided to try it out! It's also a new scarf knot for me, and I'm happy with the results there.

Laurie, thanks for the complement! For the record, I definitely have my share of fit issues with clothes. If you look at my K/R posts you will see some I was brave enough to share.

KKards, your comments about contrast are great. If I had a lighter pair of jeans available, I would have worn them instead of the dark. I mean to try bleaching a pair to see if I can make it lighter, but I have to hunt around to find a method so it doesn't get streaky. I think the contrast would have looked more balanced then. I think dark may work well for some people, but I am trying to stay away from it. The color consultant showed me on the color fan what contrast level would be good. I pretty much ignored it here because I wanted to wear the scarf, and I don't have the proper color jeans. It's a process to alter ones closet!

Unfrumped, your point about proportions is well taken. I was aware that the cardigan was not the best length. I have been looking for an alternative, but my first attempt failed. I had ordered a Vince cardigan (see below) but it was huge and overwhelmed me. I am toying around with ordering it again in a smaller size, but the DH had a very negative reaction to it, so I think I need to keep looking. I really don't know much about proportions? I think I need to read up on that. I know my legs are short for my height and I have a long rise. I know about the rule of thirds. How to use the information is a different story. One thing I didn't try was to keep the blouse untucked and wear the sweater over it. I wonder if that would have worked better? I'm glad you noticed my shoes. I intentionally picked them and the belt as accents for this ensemble. Those shoes are so comfortable! I swear I could run in them!

Thanks Kellygirl, Alaskagirl and Suz!

Lisap, one of these days I will feel comfortable with fewer accessories. Perhaps just my earrings would have been enough here? They were abalone earrings that my dad gave me years ago. He actually bought them for me before my ears were pierced! So, they are my very first pair of earrings and have special sentimental meaning for me.

Thanks Deb, I think I may go scarf shopping to see if I can find anything interesting.

If you're still reading, thanks! That was very long!

Love your footwear, jeans and winter white sweater! I'm thinking the scarf is the odd one out....maybe one with navy and/or black and/or white accents would pull the look together more. I might add too, that you are in great shape and carry these jeans really well!

You look great in winter white, that's for sure! How cool to see how you've hit your stride with colour . I'll go back with kkards and agree that the scarf isn't necessary here . Or a darker one.

Great outfits. I love the cognac accents in 1--they really make this outfit shine. The sweater in 2 looks so luxe and cozy. Would love to see that sweater with lighter bottoms too. Looking good!

Winter white is working out as a good color for you for sure.
For #1, I might like the cardigan longer, for pants, or more textured, or both--something to give more "presence" with the slim pants--compared to what I'd wear for a skirt. How do you work out your top & bottom proportions? That's always a bear for me when trying to mix & match items.
For #2, I love the scarf color but not as much with the sweater. It can be a distraction. Maybe one of your other scarves? And use this scarf with a more tonal outfit, colors of similar depth.
I love the 2-tone pumps! Such a good "interesting neutral" to add complexity.
This is very good experimenting!

I'm into the winter white myself, and I'm looking for the perfect white pant that I can wear to work, so I've been following your white posts with interest

I love the deep contrast of the white against the dark in #1. For me, adding the light scarf in #2 distracts from that contrast, and I'd love to see it with out the scarf or with a darker scarf, or on the other spectrum, one with a white base to tie it more to the sweater.

I like the look in #2 and you can do about 1,000 things with those basics adding scarves and other accessories.
Envy you gals who wear the J Crew jeans so well. My curves have never worked with them.

Love the Winter-White!
The cashmere scarf is so lovely- and a great idea.
I can imagine a multi-coloured one in outfit #2, with some darker shades to mimic your pant colour as well

Finally I have a few short minutes to post something. I can't believe how busy thing have been in my life! I hardly have time to sit and think most days, and I truly miss that. I've been playing around with winter white, trying to figure out different ways to wear it. I actually wore it every day last week. Here are two examples I had time to photograph.

Pic 1 is a J Crew silk blouse and v neck sweater, with J Crew matchstick jeans, and Beautifeel animal print pumps.

Pic 2 is Nordstrom Collection long cashmere turtleneck, J Crew toothpick jeans, Aquatalia bootie, and a Nordstrom cashmere and silk scarf.
