Liz- they're actually a nicer more expensive denim (!) but softer with almost a worn in feel so it just doesn't make sense. But you're right, I think it IS a peculiar feature of these jeans.

Karie & Rae - glad to hear the scrunch is not too bad.

Everyone else- thank you for the nice comments. I'm going to take the jeans up and hopefully they'll behave better for me.

Gotta love those browns - and the pop of red!

I don't mind the scrunch on the jeans at all... but if it keeps bugging you, you might be able to have a tailor put a slit in the sides so that they can accommodate the width of your boots better.

#1 is KILLER! I love the way you tied that weathered brown belt. WOW uber casual style!

#2 is fab too! A little arty

Fabulous outfits! I love them all, but especially #1. I really like the way you tie that belt. Your outfits are inspirational for me because I live a very casual work-at-home life most of the time.

Re the jeans -- I'll bet just a bit of shortening would solve the problem. Or could it be that your boots are different now, with wider top openings or a different shaft height?

To piggyback what Liz said - does this happen with your other jeans? It could be the quality of the denim. I like all these casual looks, and the jeans scrunching at the bottom doesn't bother me. I love the belt in outfit #1!

I wonder if it's just these jeans. Perhaps a higher quality denim would fall how you like it. Do you notice a difference in the feel of the denim from your other straight legs?

Lovely winter wear I especially like the first outfit. The cardigan in 2 is really cute and I'd love to see the 3rd outfit sans jacket. Great to see another kiwi on the forum.

The boots are not too wide at all. It just seems to be the way the jeans sit, although I agree that they look like they're sitting on the boot tops. I'm sitting on the couch with my feet up at the moment and they still sit the same. Very frustrating because they're a nice fabric - not stiff at all, and I was thrilled to find them after a year with no jeans at all.

I'll pin them up and see if I can improve things.

Thanks for your comments. I'm surprised to find how helpful it is to post WIWs. Things look different in photos than in the mirror.

I love 1! My second fave is 2. In 3 I agree the jacket may look better done up. I would like to see a different topper over it.
With regard to your jeans, may I ask how wide your boots are around the top? The reason I ask is that in pic 2 it is difficult to tell if it is the extra length and stiffnes of the jean, or it looks as though the jeans are sort of resting on the top of your boots and getting snarled up on them; so I wondered if the boots were a bit wide.

I found this with a new pair of straight-legged pants I recently found at an Op. shop and solved the problem by shortening the hem by around 2cm. This has left some scrunch but not enough to create the bulgy bit.
I like your outfits!
Similar to my Winter Uniform too. This year I have also been wearing shirts and blouses with collars under a knit layer, and quite like the slightly dressier feel it creates.

My favourite winter uniform is jeans, merino & boots and all the variations thereof.

1.stripey merino, straight leg jeans, suede boots
2.brown merino, handknit topper, straight jeans, tan flat boots
3. stripe singlet, black merino (too big really so I only wear it occasionally), straight jeans, tan flat boots, brown wool jacket (looks better done up). In fact, not my favourite outfit. I like the colours but the fit is not as neat as I'd like.

I need some help with these jeans. I like the feel and the fit of them but I'm having trouble with the lower leg part. Instead of sitting nicely over my boots like straight leg jeans of the past have done, they go all scrunchy instead and I end up feeling sloppy in them. If I tuck the hem under, just to see if they would look better shorter, they look too short. I must have a decent experiment with them, take a few pics and see if I can solve the problem. But if any of you have any thoughts on it I'd be eager to hear them.
