I love the short sleeved jacket- no poison eye here! I have an off white, short sleeved swing jacket for spring/autumn! The only caution I would add is that they can make broad shoulders appear wider, if that is something you are concerned about.

I can see ambergreen's styling ideas regarding the short sleeved jacket working well, too!

Oh I love your textured jackets and wonderful boots and hint of the 19th century. I too wear skirts in winter, although right now I don't live in a place with much real winter.

Have you tried the jacket unbuttoned? I like ambergreen's ideas too.

ambergreen, that's a good suggestion and I think I have some tops like you describe to test.

For those for whom it is poison, what is it about the style in general you hate? Dated but not retro? too cutesy? Arms are weird? I've never tried a short sleeve jacket before and have no strong feelings one way or the other so honesty is welcome. (Also it was 35 cents so really not a hardship to re-donate).

Outfits in slide 1 are all very nice!

Now...with your interest in 19th century, I think the short-sleeved jacket could work over a skater-y skirt, *and* I think what might be able to rescue it is a long-sleeved layer underneath. What is suggesting itself is something solid in the same color family from white to gray to black, and especially a high-necked item. A black turtleneck that comes way up or a white Victorian stand collar blouse maybe. (But I too generally have a poison eye for those jackets...)

You look great in your skirts and cozy tights. I wish tights didn't bug me so much. I so love the look. I like the pattern matching too. Great first post and welcome!

Love the looks in #1, and the cowl neck with the skater skirt is particularly fab. I have a poison eye for the type of jackets in 2 and 3, so I will let others comment on that.

thanks all!

Museum Gal, the 19th century vibe is kind of instinctual/default for me in wet/cold weather. (Also I love Napoleonic war novels, so there's that...).

kkards, yeah I'm not sure about this short-sleeved jacket. I like the sleeve buttons, but it's a little off in the bust maybe.

You rock your winter jackets. My favorite is outfit 2, the details of the cowl, buttons on the jacket, purse and skirt go so well together, and I really like the mix of all dark colors. I also shop the stores and wear the brands you mention. I was sad when they closed Casual Corner. Glad you posted your first WIW!

The skirt outfits are all kinds of fab, love the fun tights and the newsboy booties too. I agree the olive jacket is wonderful (doesn't look too tight to me). Do you rock the 19th century vibe on purpose or is it instinctual? Whichever way, I LURVE it.

fuzzylogic, the olive jacket is a somewhat stretchy fine wale corduroy. You maybe right, I'll need to look at it again. I don't feel any pull because of the stretch, but I'll check it out in different angles/postures. thanks!

I love the outfit with the velvet (?) olive jacket. The colours and textures and great! I do feel that the jacket is pulling a bit at the shoulders though- how do you see it?

Dipping my toe in the water with a first post, since this is such a wise and witty group and I couldn't resist. In recent posts there have been several comments about not wearing skirts in winter. I've actually been doing it a lot for my run-around-town outfits in the last few weeks, partly because I love warm leggings. Not quite sure how it's working, but it's pretty comfortable.

(Skirts are a skater skirt and mini-skirt from Marshalls and Ross, Green corduroy and black velvet CK jacket are from the Rack, gray one is thrifted Casual Corner. Bag is Fossil vintage revival calf from Marshalls. Gray patterned leggings are from Ross. Born suede tall boots, Guess booties from Marshalls/TJ Maxx. Gray cowl necked sweater is thrifted Gap. Hair is a mess, but that is pretty accurate after fighting through the wind)

The second picture is a thrifted jacket I'm testing out and experimenting with pattern on pattern. Shirt underneath is thrifted, jeans are Kohl's Rock and Republic, heeled booties are Clarks.

Any and all ideas are welcome
