Quality wool is expensive. A friend of mine knits and it would cost her about $300 for the wool alone (paying retail prices for the wool) and then many hours of work. I am lucky that I have lived on the one piece of land since I received it as a gift in 1995, only moving from the “front” 1957 house to the “back” house that we built in 2018.<br /> I considered giving it away earlier, but felt too mean when I thought of the effort that my mother-in-law had put into it knitting it for me back then. So I just hoped that maybe one day I would feel like wearing it again, and I have been able to keep it stored such that it didn’t degrade. I suspect its style is more of a late 80s style although knitted mid 90s.<br /> In NZ, new hand knitted garments of this type can command ridiculous prices of around $500?!
