Good news that you speak German. Half the battle is won. Your son should pick it up again quite quickly. It's us adults who battle to learn a new language.

Angie, such a sweet note—thank you!
Für mich ist deutsch kein Problem. I’ve lived in German-speaking Europe a total of six years. My son learned German when we lived there when he was 5-6, but has since forgotten it. He should relearn it quickly. I hope the move and home I pull together will be much smoother than that time. We loved our lives there, but the coming and going were holter-polter, for different reasons.

Fashiontern, thanks for answering my question. I will answer yours.

I have lived in four continents. Asia, Africa, Europe and the US. All for a considerably amount of time.

The hardest part is leaving friends and making new ones. And managing when you don’t speak the official language. I hope you both speak German!

As for family, we have never lived close to them - apart from when we were growing up. So that part was no different for us.

Then there is the culture shock. You have to simply relax into it.

There is nothing more educational and enriching then traveling and learning about how others live and perceive the world. In my mind anyway. Wishing you the best of luck.

Angie, the plan is to get a job in Berlin (or maybe West Germany, near Inge & your dad).

There is too much sorting/packing to do in the likely time between accepting an offer and starting the position, so I’m preparing now for a move in the summer. I’ll start applications in March or April. We will not take furniture or many household goods, so have to sort through it all. I’m not tossing Florida-specific things yet, but want to have winter outfits and shopping lists ready. My son is growing so fast, he’ll get a new wardrobe anyway.

If I can’t get a job, then I’ll be shattered, but at least will have a nice pared down/ minimalist wardrobe and home.

Do you have advice on intercontinental moves?

The Cat, Rachylou, Sal, Cardiff Girl, and Angie, thank you! As you know, I hope to be packing up my wardrobe for a big move, perhaps with a smaller figure. I will keep your comments to remind me which looks to focus on as I adapt to a different climate.

Lots of pics. I agree with Angie - 9 is my favourite photo - such a natural happy smile:)

I love 1 on you, a really nice fall look. I also like 5 and 7 - which I think are just a switch of footwear. You suit that cream/off white very well and the lace detailing is great. I love this with the pants - the proportions work nicely.

I will check out the reflections too.

Aw thanks for noticing, Cardiff Girl!! I had to look up what a pinny is, but yep, that was a surprise favorite this month.

Thanks, Angie! I’m slowly figuring out what I’m doing, which makes looking “pulled together” much quicker and easier.

I’ve broken this into two pieces, with outfits and my final list of under 30 items here, and my reflections in a separate post. https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....st-1868027 I’ve gotten many comments and suggestions, and appreciate every one. Without them, I would’ve lost steam much earlier, so thank you for sticking with me.

Outfits / photos

A new jacket (although I’m not the first to have one, so it isn’t new here). I was excited to wear it, even before really figuring out outfits, so tossed something on quickly. Partway through this day, I realized I was wearing C (the jacket, blackberry shirt, and puff purse) P (the jacket) T (the boots, puff purse) S (necklace hidden behind the camera). I must be learning something here ;)

A neutral outfit very similar to what I started out intending to avoid. The cranberry T-neck and light-colored footwear make a big difference, and I felt great. Even better, of course, with the vest. Next time I wear it, I want to add a necklace that works with the T-neck and thick cable-knit sweater.

A tonal match. This kind of color combination is new to me. I enjoyed wearing it.

I was worried about the jeggings with the “high” (2”) heels on the ankle boots. I think the sandals work better than the loafers, but have since gotten over my fear of how the boots look with them.

I felt so cozy early in the morning when I pulled on this outfit I’d laid out the night before. Wearing the racer back tank made it just the right amount of soft & warm. When I finally had a chance to see a mirror, though, I thought it made me much too wide. The racer back by itself was also not a win. Maybe untucked would be better. It has a fairly long, curved hem.

That’s my nightshirt peeking out from under the apron. Not every “undressed” day is this fab.

I like the long cardi with the dress better than with the capris. I’m not sure why that is. Overall, the dress was much easier to put on and made me feel much more fab than I expected. I got it for recovering from surgery, didn’t need it then and hadn’t pulled it out until now. I’m glad I pushed myself to wear it.

The bubble dress will make more appearances soon.

I’m not sure what happened to the pix of the striped dress, but it’s also easy breezy to wear. I had it in my closet for a long time, while I got down to size for it.

The one fall-ish jacket I had at the start. Had the weather cooperated, I could have worn it much more. I really like the suede.

Those shorts that you all helped me come up with tops for, and then the thermometer took a dive before I could wear them! I had them on the very first day of the challenge, with this top, but I’ve added an extra photo so you can see the basic pieces better.

Another non-challenge shot featuring shorts I wore on one of the first days, because I didn’t get a picture of them either.

What I wore (not counting apron or other gear):

Olive shorts
Floral shorts
Black pedal pushers
Bootcut jeans
Brown damask leggings
Blue/white striped 3/4 sleeve dress
Black/white sleeveless dress
Black/blue bubble dress
Ss long cream-colored shirt
Black “starry” tank, long, curved hem
White “starry” tank, long curved hem
Ls blackberry shirt, long, curved hem
Ss cranberry lightweight sweater, unlong, straight hem
Cranberry turtleneck
Raw edge sweatshirt
Multicolored duster
Cream cable-knit sweater
Brown suede jacket
Pink puffer vest, faux fur hood lining
Plaid bomber jacket
Multi-colored loafers, black background
Brown sandals
Brown cowboy boots
Tan/blush ankle boots
