I will make these work since you don't mind the ankles. The "scuffs" are actually spots where the leather has torn a bit - not all the way through. I have no idea how someone did this to them. One of them I should be able to glue down with leather glue and should not be noticeable. The other I think should darken up enough to suit me with one of the suggestions you have given. I am on Team RATE after all - a little wear does not bother me.
