I have both black and white. The white fabric is a little less heavy than the black, but is not insubstantial. I am still wearing them a lot into the fall. I think a couple of things might be going on.&nbsp;</p> <p>1. I think maybe the shirt's fabrication/ length are not quite right to make this look work. I experimented with one top that was definitely too long, and another that might have been too short -- I didn't find my "sweet spot" top -- which is one reason I ended up tucking the top in, in my versions.&nbsp;</p> <p>2. I think the shell might not be oversized/ boxy enough. Mine is a fluid but not boxy fit and this might be similar. To really skim it needs to be quite loose and boxy. That way it won't "squeeze" the top at the bottom.&nbsp;</p> <p>I still think these work, but I wonder about how it feels. In today's "white is the new black" spirit, I have tried it three ways:</p> <p>Chelsea 28 black/grey/metallic/white shell<br />Cream J Crew silk blouse<br />Cream J Crew western-ish booties</p> <p>and</p> <p>Emerson Fry white Mick Jeans<br />Citizens grey skinny jeans<br />J Crew charcoal wool pinstripes</p> <p>My view: First, I am not sure that I like the shirt peeking out at the bottom. It feels like it's making the bottom welt of the shell scoot up in an less than flattering way</p> <p>Second, I tried it with three different pants. Oddly, I liked the charcoal wool pants the best in the mirror but am not too fond of how they photographed here looking rather baggy. I liked how the light grey jeans&nbsp;looked, but I wore those jeans yesterday, so I decided to go with the white.</p>
