I have zero shame - if I like a pair of shoes at Target or Payless or wherever, they are going on my feet, posthaste! *laughing at self* Because I have relatively small feet, I've also discovered I can assuage my whimsical side with childrens' shoes when the fancy strikes (which is how I ended up with a pair of sequined Hello Kitty shoes that I often run errands in). Fashionable? Maybe not. Fun? You betcha!

I've gotten a number of shoes from GoJane over the past few years, and while I have qualms about fast fashion, it can be difficult to find some of the items I truly like and appreciate in high end shops, at a price I can afford to pay, even if I save up (I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for burnt orange skimmers with a face on and studs. I *will* pay $20 for them, though, in a heartbeat).

I like the sweater and cut-out booties together. I also have very non-fussy feet and can get by in cheap shoes (I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I shop at Payless). I'm thinking about getting a pair of cut-out boots to go with tights this winter.

Thank you for your detailed reply! very helpful. I do think cheap is sometimes the way to go to try out trends.

Clara, I wore them to a concert the other night, and walked several blocks to/ from the venue. Because they are clearly not high quality, I've noticed a variance (beware, I have no idea what the actual terminology is for shoe anatomy, so this will sound utterly ridiculous).

On the buckles, the pin do-jibby that goes through the holes on the strap to hold it in place, varies - on my black ones, the back side of it isn't quite closed and has a pointy bit that kinda stabs me in the ankle. I covered the backside of the buckle with a bit of mileskin and presto, no problems. On my tan/camel/ whatever you call it ones, there is no edge, and I have not had to do that.

I have never had a problem with going barefoot in shoes - I blame all the Gidget movies I watched as a kid, where she rocked Keds sans socks -but I also have the world's least fussy feet. While these are a little swamp-foot due to the pleather, it's not too bad, and I had a bit of rubbing on my pinkie toe on the right, but no other problems to report. I haven't yet worn them with socks, but I am looking forward to styling them with tights when it gets cooler. Along those same lines, I'm looking forward to playing with these with tights and socks, too, for a very different look

Love the cut it out booties.

Question: are they comfortable without socks (comfortable = can walk, say, 4 or 5 flat city blocks)? Do you like how they look with socks?

I agree, I may try them at that price, but I'm not sure about the sock issue.

Also, it's important to note here that, for me, "schlumpy" is not a negative, just a descriptor. I kinda like schlumpy, frankly, and it's just as important in my fashion vernacular as fitted or body con or anything else. It's just less glamourous to showcase *laugh*

Love #3! Great sweater.

As for the leopard jeans, try a tonal look with a long cream or taupe tunic. You may need to purchase something to make this work. Light colored jeans are tricky to style IMO. I have a pale pair of tuxedo stripe jeans from Rag & Bone and I am forever trying new combinations to make them work!

Vicky, it is way too big for me. That's one of the things I love most about it. I adore oversized sweaters and always have. In summer, they are nice and roomy with lots of airflow, so I don't overheat. In winter, I can shove a bunch of layers under it and stay warm. It may not be fashionable, but it is one of my hallmarks.

The last picture was better. The color marled effect is nice in the sweater from your grandmother. If it fits like the picture is showing - it is way too big on you. It looks like you could get a second person in there. Don't give up on those animal print pants. They look like they fit so nice and they are so cute. Keep experimenting.
Vickie

I have those days. Wait....I had one today! My nemesis was a mild-mannered, Clark Kent, blue and white striped button down.

I think your plan to work with lighter colors, or perhaps sharper lines and structure, in the topper is spot on. Ooh, sorry, bad pun.

Also, I'd try with brights, too.

Today, nothing was working. I started with
1) some light leopard jeans (Lucky via eBay, in an attempt to upgrade my cheapo leopards) and a pretty blue batwing (Gap, I think? Thrifted a few years ago) blouse, with my DIY boots, but I wasn't feeling it.
2) I thought maybe a sweater (hand-me-down from my grandmother) in the same tone family might work, but not so much.
3) I finally gave up and just put on my beloved 505s with the sweater, and popped on the tan/ camel version of the Cut It Out bootie (at that price, I could totally buy both and mix them up for the season, depending on my mood - this is how I duplicate)

I'm kinda bummed about the leopard jeans. I've really found the other two pairs I've bought to be super-flexible, working themselves into myriad outfits with ease, so I thought I'd go ahead and snag a "real" pair in a "real brand" (the ones I bought are very, very cheap and bag easily, but were sufficient to my needs of trying on a trend before I committed funds to it). I think the main drawback on these is they don't have the dark defining edge that the others do, so they look a bit awkward with dark colours. I will try them with a white or cream top and a topper, to see how that works, but right now, I just feel GRRR about them.
