#3 is sublime- you look fab in those colors! I like the new haircut. It reminds me of how I chopped mine off to near pixie length during my first pregnancy.

I've been away the last couple weeks (on call and then vacation) but so glad I found this thread! Moni, I love your haircut, and especially LOVE the belly shot! What a cute little bump! My bump is waving hello to yours! Though it's still hard to tell when you wear those tunics--amazing how much they can hide! Love the tops in #3 (so pretty) and the green kameez in #4--you always look stunning in your bright colored Indian clothes. Your WIW's always make me happy and seeing your sister belly made my day!

RunnerChick, that's a good point --- I actually started to explain about the Anarkali as well, and then stopped myself. The Anarkali used to be the shape of a dancer's tunic, named after the legendary courtesan, so a fit-and-(hugely)-flare shape with a lot of billowy fabric down to the low hem --- certainly mine has that length and volume in the lower half too. The angarkha refers to the closure of the top half (the original Anarkali's tunic is unlikely to have had that kind of closure, and would have been more like an empire-waisted dress with a back closure and possibly a short waistcoat). But yes, this particular garment has aspects of both.

Mani - I'm late to this thread, but I wanted to jump in and join the chorus of admiration for the haircut. It's soft and beautiful, and the way it frames your face is simply lovely. I second the inclination to go shorter, in the direction of a pixie (what can I say - having a pixie myself, I'm, arguably, biased although keeping at this length is a fine option too!

You are one gorgeous pregnant woman!

p.s. I thought of you when I got dressed this morning - I'm wearing skinnies, silk shirt, boots, and a sweater (We have a rare 37F day here in California). I'm not yet as *fast* with it as I'd like, but it did definitely have the feel of a (F)FBO as I scrambled to dash out the door!

ETA: Angrakha is new to me - I've heard this style referred to as an Anarkhali. Is that not right?

Thanks for all the kind comments, ladies!

Denise, the wrap-front is a rather more old-fashioned style of kurta or kameez, and keeps coming back into fashion every few years --- including this year. We call it an 'angrakha'. The pattern was originally based on men's garments (those used to be shorter), but sadly, it's no longer too popular for men.

I like the cut too! I think I like this length better than the very short passport photo (you look like a model in this picture).

The jeans look good rolled as is, or you could roll them a little longer for the winter.

Love the coat in #3, I do not think the collar is too big. It is such a happy color.

The kameez in #4 is fantastic. I have never heard of this, and can't recall I've seen many. It looks especially good with your brown leggings peeking out and brown footwear. Is this a popular garment in India, as popular as the tunics? (Named kurta or is that something else?)

Mani you look so lovely! I think you are navigating pregnancy dressing just beautifully. I am another admirer of that coat, it's stunning and such a fab color. Your haircut looks amazing, I couldn't imagine it, but I'm with you, shorter and similar to your old passport photo would be the next step.

Thanks, ladies!

Quite heartened by all the love for my mad coat (it reminds me of Jim Carrey as the Mask sometimes!) and the haircut. I was a little worried about looking too 'dimpled dolly' with that hair --- like I was saying in Rae's thread the other day, black hair barely shows texture --- and I fear 'pretty' feathered cuts tend to be too delicate anyway for my square features and heavy dark brows. It's reassuring to hear it's not as bad as I fear.

Clara, grey marl is the one colour of T-shirt I seem to buy over and over. One my of staples! And I'm loving ruched or wrapover garments for comfort and adjustable fit right now.

Jayne, you mean PPL, right, as do you, Suz?

Diana, yes, indeed they are long enough. In fact, to wear them unrolled, I'd need to lop off an inch or two (depending on how flat I end up wearing my 'flats').

I could also lop off *and* then roll up higher to avoid too much bulk...

Oh, and thanks for the kind words on the haircut. I was hoping for shorter, like so (old passport photo, cropped---the face being about eight years younger makes a difference, though, I think)

ETA: and Suz, 'Mani' is absolutely fine. It's the preferred abbreviation with friends, written just so, though more frequently pronounced 'Moni' (as Claire writes it, and so do some friends here in India).

LOVE the new hair! I really like #2/3; the proportions are great and I love the coat and scarf with it.

For the BF jeans, could you roll them up one more roll without it getting too bulky? I think they need to be just slightly shorter. Otherwise, I think they could be worn full length - I prefer my full length BF or baggy jeans to be very long, like almost dragging on the floor long. So.. .assuming they are this long (my Gap SBFs for example, are decidedly NOT long enough but my ripped up MEK jeans are) to start with, I'd keep them full length.

Mani (speaking of which....IS "Mani" okay or what is your absolutely preferred way to be addressed here, other than "gorgeous")....

LOVE your new hair! I am surprised because I was also loving it at its most recent mid-length, so I almost said "NO!" when you said you'd cut it, but here it looks terrific on you! I think it brings more attention to your beautiful eyes and makes you look taller.

LOVE outfit #2. These proportions look like a slam-dunk for you in pregnancy. I also really like the coat outfit. Terrific.

For the jeans I would probably wear them unrolled...to make them work rolled often depends on the footwear and at the moment you are limited to what works for absolute comfort.

It's been a strange week.

First the weather got cooler and made me grateful I'd found these maternity jeans before my legs got cramps (blame Reynaud's; it's not *that* cold, objectively). Then the 'heat wave' I seemed to be generating myself suddenly switched off, and I wanted the third layer that felt stifling a week ago. Hence outfit #1 --- worn to lunch with friends on Sunday, and duplicated to work.

Sorry, my photographer forgot I had feet! Which is sad, because I'd hoped to ask for guidance on the length of my boyfriend jeans (to hem? to roll up? less or more?)... The one thing I dislike about the jeans is the darker 'pockets' (really the stretch panel hiding the adjustable band). Eh well...

Oh yeah, I cut my hair. Not quite happy with it, but hope to sort it out next time. My hairstylist was really nervous at what she regarded as a drastic change and refused to go 'too short' --- though she's cut my hair down to pixie before and we've been fine!

Photos #2-3 --- The weather then turned decidedly grey and drippy. Ugh! Time for a coat and my old beat-up booties to wear to work. But underneath, a 'windfall' from last weekend.

I went shopping for a chair to console myself about the hair (ok, I exaggerate!). But the little shop was, uh, closing shop! And were fresh out of chairs. But had clothes on deep discount. I picked up five tops, $5 or less each---including a dressy one that might or might not see any use this year.

This black&white smock (#3) is one of them. The print reminded me of the borders around Russian fairy-tale illustrations. Though, seeing the photo, the shape isn't as flattering as I'd hoped. Loungewear for next summer?

The coat doesn't photograph too well --- it's actually greener than the mustard it appears. Next time, I won't buy so wide a collar for my short neck, but I do love its cheery hue. It was bought on another similarly grey and drippy day in Ireland. It has memories. I still like it; but I doubt I would buy it again, post-YLF.

I could be kinder to my neck by not throttling it in lots of scarf. But I wanted the warmth, between wet hair and rain. This scarf IS a favourite, and a life-saver in silk and wool --- large enough to serve as a shawl (which it did at work), but not too bulky to pack.

#4 is a long, wraparound kameez (Indian tunic). It looks bulkier than it is in real life. Not my best colour, green, but I do enjoy wearing this. Comfier than any pajamas I've owned, with stretchy leggings. Swirly and twirly. Worn to work and then to antenatal class after, where we had fun playing with imaginary balloons and sand buckets!

All in all, a mixed week.

Photo #5 is a bonus shot, for Natalie (Goldenpig), who said I hardly look pregnant in some earlier WIWs. As you can see, Natalie, the secret's out as soon as I turn sideways! :-)

ETA: Oh, hold on! Just found #6! Not a great photo (blurred and, uh, 'candid'), but does it help anyone advise me on the length of these jeans? (Wearing house slippers, but I usually wear flats anyway, particularly now that I can't see my feet so well.) Should I... (a) hem to PPL; (b) roll up to ankle as shown; (c) roll to different length; (d) do something else??
