Winter white out. I think this looks fab. Perhaps it's the boxy sweater that is making it look less streamlined? But it's also what makes it look so fresh at least to my eye. Wonderful texture, lots of interest with the necklace and cool shoes. You look wonderful.

See, Synne, no way could I decide that looks “so 2010”. I just cannot see trends that closely. My daughters can, who are closer to your age, a bit younger than you- 29 and 26 now. One went to a clothes swap a while back and said all the clothes were “very 2007”- all long flowing skirts in ditsy florals. I just thought really, did we wear such skirts in 2007? When I looked back at pics, yes, we did...
I found Recovering Shopaholic before YLF and read every post. Debbie’s work really helped me and is why I track.
And yes it’s possible you ( and I) want something that clothes can’t provide. I know they cannot bring back my youth! But they can give me fun which is important to me.

I think the challenge might be proportional. The end of the sweater/uneven bunching of the shirt. I would prefer either the shirt tucked or the sweater a bit longer, but maybe that’s just me.

I love your fun and interesting style Synne! Always a joy to look at your WIWs.
I think this outfit is great - the white is powerful and it is interesting with the mix of textures. Have you played with different jewelry? Maybe some minor tweaking would make you happier with this outfit? A neckerchief? A pair of sunglasses?
Now I am going to look at the Recovering Shopaholic blog....

I love the soft winter white on you with the fun footwear.

I can't speak for you but for myself, the shirt/ sweater combo would *feel* a bit off. Not because of layering (I layer happily) and not because of shirt collar (I love wearing oversized shirts) but because I find the short sweater/ longer top challenging to get right proportionally and in terms of bunching. I find a silky shirt *can* work a bit more easily with this type of layering.

It's an interesting outfit. I find all white quite challenging to style.
I'd probably roll the sleeves at least ones, remove bigger necklace, add dark pendant in style of your fab earrings and maybe a hint of that fun yellow color somewhere. Of course all that will make it not "you" in terms of style persona .
Other idea - small cross body bag to add a bit of structure.

Disregard all the above and keep experimenting . I love reading your posts.

I liked the similar outfit with the beige you did more, but can't pinpoint why exactly. Maybe the shape of the sweater or length of the shirt?

Going in the other direction, maybe it's *too* spot on. I admire your style, particularly your way with light neutrals and the unusual silhouettes you create. This outfit does that. It follows all the rules of "Synne style". But maybe by following rules it skips over the best part of your style--the creativity and whimsy. I'm not saying it's bound to traditional style rules, but that it sounds like your process in creating it was much less free flowing and fun than usual, and the result may be a bit flat for you.

More pragmatically, how about a short gold necklace?

PS, when I saw the pic, I didn't say "wow, what does she have on now?" (in a very good way) like I often do at your pix. I kinda nodded and said "there is Synne, doing her usual thing". I think a "usual thing" is not like you.

Sisi, I am not sure actually. On the hanger this outfit seemed spot on to my style taste. A little artistic, modern, daring and spunky (shoes), but still tasteful. Toned down. But this isn't what I'm feeling when I'm wearing it. Hard to pin-point. Maybe I'm chasing a feeling that clothes will never provide. The mentioned blog (Recovering Shopaholic) delves deep into this matter. Very interesting to read about...

Nice outfit. Can you analyze what is it that does not convince you? Is it the column of white? Is it the proportions? try different, dressier shoes ? I also would remove the necklace but that's just me, I am a minimalist.

Notsaf, I did originally add even more long necklaces. But realized, even to my eye, that it looked very 2010. Yes, I see that I can shave off even more accessories. Subtle is key. This what is so great about taking outfit photos vs. relying on the mirror.

Rachylou, this may be it. I don't have an answer. My holy grail of fashion, has got to be to establish my personal style. My style persona. I may be a tiny step closer, as I am realizing that who I am [insert roles], and my lifestyle dictates my style persona too. I can't just make up a fantasy moniker that doesn't relate to my real life at all... easier said than done

Hmm. I think this is a great outfit. I can imagine it in many settings. Any thoughts about why you’re not content? What or how does it fail you?

This may not apply to you.., but for me, the style persona has been the greatest invention. It’s like, *am I wearing my own persona?* I find when I’m always a little bit unsatisfied, it’s because I’m not... and interestingly enough, I’m much happier sartorially now because, I think, I don’t work for multinational corporations anymore and don’t have to bend to that dress code... so yeah, sorta not about the clothes, although it’s about the clothes...

I think this is great! An oversized collar shirt is so signature on you, and I love those jeans every time you wear them. Neon shoes are fab, as well!

If pressed, a tweak might be to remove the longer white necklace: there's enough going on with the rest of the top texture-wise and it might compete with the pop of the shoes.

I have recently discovered the "Recovering Shopaholic" blog. Great stuff. I've felt like I have had to reinvent the wheel myself along the way, and then I come across sites like this and discover everything I have asked my self have been asked (and answered) by others, countless times.

I now understand better why so many of you are counting wears. Still a lot to ponder and work through.

This outfit is in practice the best I can do. I have chosen the favourites from my closet. Tried to style to my best effort. But still, I am not 100% content. I'd say not even 60%, hah. Maybe it's less about the clothes, and more about a countless other things.

I really appreciate this community and excellent fashion and style advice from Angie and all of you. Big thank you!
