I was immediately attracted to this post by the word hippie and the attraction continued after viewing the photos. I like your sweater paired with the slim look jeans rather than BFs and those boots are to die for.

Love this retro look! And I remember both men and women wearing these cardis. You've given the look enough structure to keep it focused and flattering, without losing your sense of fun!

What a fun outfit. So happy to see someone else purposely rocking the 70s every now and then.

Girl .... you are gifted with some good thrifting skills! I love the outfit .... Sans the lion necklace. Not because its not good ... But because the sweater is too good and it deserves to shine alone IMO. But I am also a more minimalist dresser than you are, so take my comments with a grain of salt ;)

The lion necklace by itself is beautiful! You have some really cool accessories and jackets. And you wear them so well!

Yesterday's outfit I was channeling my inner hippie. Okay, well technically it would be my 70's inner hippie since the two vintage pieces are from that era, but close enough.

I picked up the 1970's vintage belted ethnic/indian sweater last Sunday at Long Beach flea market. I absolutely loved the combination of brick and terracotta colors in it and it was really comfortable (I still haven't run a sweater shaver over it so it has some pilling, but nothing terribly overt --and for $30 I didn't much care anyway because I liked it so much).

I originally considered pairing it with loose and slouchy BF jeans, an embossed vintage leather belt with similar colors in it (also obtained last week at the flea market) and either my Frye brick red Phillip Harness boots or My terracotta suede Frye Quincy mocs.

Once I decided to add the vintage lion necklace to the ensemble, though, I felt like it moved too far into the realm of head-to-toe 70's style (for my mood that day, anyway. Some days I don't mind that "full-on vintage" effect but yesterday I decided I'd rather style it so the overall outfit had more of a contemporary feel with just the two vintage statement pieces).

So rather than wrap and belt the sweater I let it hang open and just knotted the belt behind it. Then I went with a slimmer, fitted profile for the foundation, to offset the oversized sweater. So pale beige t-shirt, faded blue skinny jeans and nude booties brought it back to today's day and age (with a nod to its original era) and did a better job of letting the massive 70's Vintage Razza Lion head necklace take center stage.

The nude leather ankle boots are an interesting shade that picks up on the pale pinkish undertones in the sweater. They're flesh tone with very subtle, soft blush pink variations in the leather dye. So I thought they did a good job being a neutral while still picking up on the overall color scheme.

I was pretty happy with the outfit overall. The necklace got tons of compliments and/or comments as it usually does (even from the gamer guy co-workers). When you wear a necklace that large it tends to attract attention so I usually opt to have the rest of the outfit be much more subdued. In this case I felt like the pattern and the style of the sweater complimented rather than competed with it for attention.

Also included photos of the jeans, belt, shoes and boots that didn't make the cut...and please excuse all those shoes/boots in boxes behind me in the photos. Got my Zappos order and had the new additions out so I could try them on to see which ones end up with a place in my closet (am really loving a pair of blue suede Born Mott Oxfords I got on sale but there was a discoloration on one toe so Zappos is sending me a new pair).

Vintage 70's ethnic sweater: Long Beach flea market
t-shirt: Kohl's
Faded blue skinny jeans: J Brand (via ebay)
Nude ankle boots: Ksubi (via ebay)
vintage belt: thrifted
small gold & diamond earrings: also obtained at Long Beach flea market last Sunday
Ring: thrifted
Sunglasses: Anne Klein (via TJ Maxx years ago)
Bag: Marzia Italy (via TJ Maxx years ago)
