I love my Uniqlo heattech layers! I have two sets of pants and tops, and they are essential for my winter hiking and explorations. I always throw a set in my luggage when traveling unless I’m going somewhere tropical, and indeed I even used them last week in Joshua Tree, where I got snowed on! They’re light and don’t feel sweltering if the day warms up, but keep me warm in sub-freezing mornings.

I also love the Airism cami that I have, and want another one, but every time I check, they’re not available.

I also love my Darn Tough socks. I like the Bombas socks I have too. I’m in the market for new *almost* no-show substantial running socks — my old Balega ones are starting to give up the ghost, and it seems they’re not made anymore? I ordered some from Bombas but they are thinner. Good for summer, I guess. I’m planning on walking the Camino de Santiago later this year so I’m going to be needing really good cushiony socks that don’t slip down into my shoes!

For fashion no-show socks, I like my Ondos. They do develop thin spots in the ends of the toes a bit quicker than I’d prefer, but they are the only no-show socks I’ve found that do not slip down off my heels into my shoes!

For undies, I am a firm fan of On Gossamer mesh bikinis and have stocked up on them. They are light, breathable, dry quickly so great for travel, and are very cute! Bras are tricky as I am not an easy fit, but I just replenished my stash with selections from Bravissimo, Simone Perele, Panache, and Knix for sports bras.

I'm another fan for Uniqlo Heattech. When I lived in NJ I wore Heattech underneath my clothes from Nov to April. My favorite thing about the Heattech line is that they make a scoopneck option, which works really well for layering underneath vneck sweaters. So many thermals are crewneck, which doesn't work well under vneck lines.

I have mostly Patagonia long underwear, in various weights. Some of it is over 35 years old. I had a pair of silk long underwear from my mother, and it just didn’t last. It felt wonderful to wear, but developed lots of holes.

On top I normally wear a camisole and an Eddie Bauer long sleeve tee, or sometimes a turtleneck top, and then layer on top.

Recently I went to REI and Patagonia looking for the light weight fleece quarter zip tops. I have a couple that are 15-20 years old. Apparently they don’t have them anymore. They were a wonderful, cozy layer, especially around the neck.

Note: Recently I bought a used Eddie Bauer sweater/jacket that was about $20. And I had bought a lightweight hoodie from Patagonia that was more than six times as much. I asked my husband if he thought it was worth so much more than the Eddie Bauer sweater/jacket. He said, ‘I don’t know, but you’ll find out in ten years.”

Uniqlo for me, too. I also wear knee high Heattech socks from Uniqlo or merino wool from Patagonia. On very cold days, I wear merino wool tops from COS under my sweaters.

Nice to see all the uniqlo love.
I used to be a smart wool sock person, they were the brand that made me appreciate and well love wool socks, but then they changed something and they no longer fit me. So happy I found darn tough
If anyone is looking for a grippy sock for Pilates or yoga- I’m loving my pointe studio pairs. They fit well and are super grippy. And they are holding up well with over a year in and washing every week.

I am new to wearing underlayers for warmth, even though I have experience living in very cold climates. I am used to wearing thick and warm outerwear—one would get to the destination, remove the outer layer, and voilà.

Now, though, in a mild climate, a curious thing happens—there is no central heating in many places where I would normally expect it. So, I find myself layering much more. Silk blouses from my past professional life go under sweaters (I am glad I didn’t get rid of them, even if I won’t use some of them as part of an outfit—because as comfy underlayers, they are perfect).

And I found fabulous pure wool undies on Vinted! We have these charming little shops in the centers of small towns that sell yarn, aprons, old-fashioned lingerie like girdles, embroidery supplies, and so on—run invariably by very elderly ladies. I am afraid there is no one to take over the businesses after them, so Vinted is full of this type of dead stock.

For underlayers, I'm a Uniqlo AIRism fan. I use their camisoles in various colors throughout the colder months. If I need more than a cami, I use my ancient (30 years!) long sleeved silk tees in various colors from Victoria's Secret. I'm really going to miss those when they finally bite the bullet. My silk long johns have finally stretched out too much for use, so I think I'll give Uniqlo's Heattech leggings a try. Like you, I love the Darn Tough socks. I'm a recent convert from Smart Wool socks, which I've liked and used for years, but Darn Tough really does live up to the hype.

Smart Wool socks, wool leggings ( REI ) and SmartWool half zip sweater. Socks are now lifesavers under the wide leg jeans - cold mornings and chilly evenings must have.
Our winter is colder than before.

I am an old school fan of Cuddl Duds in all their varieties. This year I bought a Uniqlo heat tech top, but even in an extra large I found it very snug. It's a lovely fabric, and warm, but I felt that it was too tight. Lands End also makes some jersey under things that are great.

I’m a fan of silk long underwear. L.L. Bean has new pieces every year. I find they run big, and size down. They last forever. My go to sock is SmartWool; a lot of wool socks make my feet itch, but they don’t. My go to tight is Talbots.

Since this was January and the coldest in a decade I thought I’d call out the things I wore everyday but that you either didn’t see at all or just saw small glimpses of.
Honestly the Uniqlo Heattech tee’s are part of what I wear everyday from late September until late April (or May if it’s a cold spring). I have the regular and the warmer. The scoop neck and the just at the wrist sleeve length make them perfect layering pieces. For me, they are never anything I would wear as an outer layer. In the past couple of years I’ve added some Heattech leggings and they are great for the really cold days, and fit perfectly under jeans.

In the last 3-4 years I’ve been adding/replacing some of my Heattech with wool layers. They are warmer, and need less washing so better for the environment. But i’m still struggling to find a fit that layers as well as the Heattech, best I’ve found is the icebreaker sweetheart neck…any suggestions/recommendations?

I’ve also tried the M&S version of the Heattech, and it’s super warm, but the higher neck means that it doesn’t work with everything.

Last summer I added the Uniqlo bra tank, and I love it. It’s perfect for me (30D) on days when I want some coverage but don’t want to wear a bra. I’d say, like most Uniqlo things this runs on the smaller size. For reference I tried a similar tank in the same size from Duluth Trading and it was so long I couldn’t tuck it in, and there was extra room up top.

And finally the Darn Tough socks, which IMO really live up to the name. My only complaint, I wish they would add some basic solids…but other than that they are fabulous

What are your favorite underneath it alls?
