New Drab is what I call the look sold by Urban Outfitters, Bona Drag, Tilly's. Southwestern/Art Deco/Native American pattern, drab colours with spots of bright colour. A dash of Little House on the Prairie thrown in. College kids are wearing this style in particular. Cowboy boots, thin-soled oxfords. It's on a continuum with surfer skateboarders and dark hipsters.

It's a little different from actual Southwestern style - which is a little more structured.

I love Clair's ideas I think the pants would look brilliant with a fluid knit sweater too. That is the cutest hurricane I've ever seen

I love these - and their terrific color! I'm right there with you on the busy toddlers. This morning my darling little 4yo boy made "clay" out of toilet paper in the bathroom sink, and molded it into various shapes. It was a pretty nice mess.

I'd keep the cords too, they're very nice. I'd wear that jacket also with faded or medium denim and turquoise. It has a bit of a tribal vibe, which I really like. Since it's kind of funky, I'd mix it with very plain, basic things: white, black, denim...it would be great with some patterned booties, too! Your DD is adorable.

Love the pants! They'd look great with a white/cream turtleneck and denim jacket. A big chunky gray cowl neck and black boots would also be great.

Annie is adorable! My 21 year old daughter's bathroom still looks like that.

rachylou - I think I agree that the style of the jacket doesn't necessarily go with the rest but you lost me at "new drab". What is that exactly?

I also like the jacket and the pants but don't think they're working that well together. They're quite different stylistically - the jacket is *New Drab* and the pants are preppy.

Interesting that the cashmere is also preppy. I think I'd trade that for a drapey, New Drab top - and then everything would pull together.

I have some complex, convoluted theories about why this is so. But it has to do with preppy style having rules that New Drab doesn't - about how other styles are incorporated into the overall preppy look.

I had to look up Sundance! But I see what you mean. A little bit a boho which I always like on others but am never crazy about it when I try to wear it. Probably why I haven't worn this jacket yet.

Yes, seasonal confusion is what I was worried about Suz. The weight of the jacket is heavy but it does look lighter. I like the idea of pairing the trousers with a cream cable sweater and lighter boots like Angie's links in Tanya's reply.

First of all, you have the cutest hurricane ever! And please post away, that is what forum is for!

I love that jacket, but it doesn't seem to go too well with that outfit. I would suggest one of the following:
1. Switching the shoes to something lighter that bookends your hair
2. Switching the pants to something lighter, e.g . white jeans, light wash jeans

The cords are nice, and if you want to wear them in a more updated ways, I would add a fluid/more trendy sweater, like in the following two ensemble posts:
http://youlookfab.com/2013/10/.....endy-tops/
http://youlookfab.com/2013/09/.....-knitwear/

Oh my -- she is BUSY!!

You have your hands full.

Pants look terrific -- almost like a fluid fit! I think the jacket works with it and I am a fusspot about seasonal confusion, so if you satisfy me...well, let's just say that nobody else is likely to complain. It looks about denim weight, more or less?

I'm probably going to be doing a lot of post in the next month or so since winter is my dominant season and my wardrobe needs to be tamed. So bear with me! I guess this would be a long time FFBO. Moss green INC cord trousers. They are very small gauge and almost look like velvet. I've had these for 9 years and have worn them like crazy every winter. They are dry clean only which is probably the only reason they still look good. Worn with a couple year old black cashmere Vneck. Worn with my SE pointy toe booties and a Maison Scotch jacket that has been a closet orphan. I'm not sure the jacket works. It's looks like kind of a burlap/linen. I've included closeups of the fabrics. I'd love to hear any suggestions about the jacket or other ways to wear these trousers. I think they are going to stay for at least another winter but this is basically the only way I've ever worn them. Thanks for looking!
Bonus pic of one of the many aftermaths of "Hurricane Annie" as I'm getting ready. MUST BABYPROOF!
