<p>Thank you Joy! Let's see...some of&nbsp;my favourite cosy mysteries are Laurie King's Mary Russell series (there's a decent amount of adventure in these, but lots of tea breaks as well, set in the interwar period, based in England but with fairly frequent forays into other countries), Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey series (you probably already know about these, but just in case! set in interwar England with an aristocratic sleuth almost too clever for his own good; my favourites are the ones that include&nbsp;Harriet Vane, but they're all marvelous), Anna Dean's Miss Dido Kent series (set in Georgian England &amp; featuring a Jane Austen-like heroine with mysteries set in the social contexts of the time), and Hazel Holt's Mrs. Malory series (set in contemporary England in a small seaside town, Mrs. Malory is a middle aged recent widow, very much enmeshed in the social fabric of her town, whose interests include 19th century women authors, her pets, and solving the occasional mystery). Those are the&nbsp;&nbsp;first ones that spring to mind, but if you tell me any mystery authors you currently enjoy, I might be able to add a few more! I do love a good mystery. :D</p>
<p>Thank you Neel!

<p>Eva, your posts and outfits are like poetry or music. The blue greens and soft taupe are dreamy in this ode to a snowy day. Do you have any recommendations for cozy mysteries, something to read by the fire while enjoying a cup of tea?

<p>Thank you Ornella &amp; Thistle!<div><br />Tulle, I'm glad the jacket looks good open. I'll take a picture of it closed so y'all can see that I'm not hallucinating, lol. The problem is I have a sturdy rib cage, so waistlines that hit there make me look like a block, as there's no indentation until lower down. And three cheers for another blue-green lover!</p>
<p>Ruth, I hope you enjoy it! I've read it twice, so I'm definitely a fan. She has another neat book on gemstones called Jewels (in the US; I think it's something like Jewel Box in the UK) if you decide you want to read more of her (book recommending is one of my favourite hobbies, hehe).</div>

<p>Ah, the blue-greens, I love them all, from palest aquamarine to deepest teal. Another lovely outfit--aren't knit jackets the best?&nbsp; I wouldn't have noticed any problem with the waist, by the way.&nbsp; Looks just fine to me. Peplums often start high, I think, for a more graceful drape.

<p>Jeanie, if I buttoned it you could tell! The button is at my rib cage, which is quite wide vs my waist, so it makes me look like a block. Oh well: at least it works while open. And yep, the yarn I received is a lighter, very muted blue-green (think greyed robin’s egg blue). I’m excited. And I wouldn’t know what to do with snow shoes, but I might have to look into it next year. Or cross country skiing…but I’m not sure where I’d store skis in my apartment!<div><br /></div><div>Diana, you’re definitely Queen Teal! I’m going to use Quince Lark, which is wool instead of alpaca, but I think it’ll still work, since i’m fine with it looking ‘bouncier’ instead of drapey. Swatching will give me a better idea though!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Frannie!</div><div><br /></div><div>Staysfit, blue-green lovers unite! hehe Thank you so much for sweet feedback too. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Firecracker! Thistle isn’t jealous of the brooch, because it has the good sense not to try to steal my lap. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Alasse, two of my favourite colours, so I’m glad you like how they look combined! hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Windchime, that’s a good point that the lighter blue-greens are very spring-y. I definitely underestimated that snow, and once my thighs were wet, I didn’t want to take the longer route home, so had to just keep going. Oh well: I learned my lesson!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Suz. :D</div><div><br /></div><div>Astrid, as I mentioned to Jeanie, the waist only becomes really obvious when I button it! I believe the boots are a German brand too, so go Germans. hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Summer!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Diane. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Sara!</div><div><br /></div><div>Approprio, it’s from Anthropologie…I got it ages ago (2008?) on deep clearance. So there’s definitely been plenty of time for it to show up in the blogosphere!</div><div><br /></div><div>Texstyle, your knit moto sounds great! I definitely feel like there are more knit jackets in my future, although I don’t knit that quickly, so at least they’ll accumulate slowly. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>MG, thank you for both the positive feedback and the constructive criticism of the skirt! Eventually, I want to master sewing skirts &amp; will probably use the fabric to remake this to fit better (and add pockets!). But I do love the taupe tweed, and I don’t mind the look or feel of paperbag waists, so I guess I fall into the Lyra camp instead of the Mary Russell one. After all, Mary as those tailors on call and the money to pay for them. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Keturah! I do love watercolours. I love all of the Purl Alpaca Designs too! There are so many incredible ones, and they’re so *different* from a lot of the knitting patterns out there. So as long as this pattern knits up well, I bet I’ll try some more of hers in the future.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx RachyLou! This hat was my first ever knitting project, so it’s a bit wonky, but I do feel a lot of affection for it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ruth, I learned about Newton in a great nonfiction book called Colours: a Natural History of the Palette. It’s by Victoria Finlay, and I definitely recommend it! A sort of history/science/travelogue mash up. Anyway, I love how comfortable my Riekers are too, as another wide toed person. I can walk miles in them without any problems!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you so much Isabel. What a kind thing to say; I adore fairy tales, so&nbsp;it made me day. :D</div>

<p>Your posts are such fun, E - I didn't know about Newton and his rationale for naming the colours of the rainbow as he did!</p>
<p>Blue-green is really&nbsp;flattering for your colouring.. I love your "cardigan in jacket's clothing" - good to have the look of a jacket combined with the comfort of a wool cardi. You have the best skirts, too.&nbsp; </p>
<p>It's a big recommendation for your boots, that you could be so deep in snow yet remain dry! I bought a pair of Rieker boots a couple of years ago - intended to return them within the 2 week window, then got ill with flu and couldn't get them back to the shop.&nbsp; They sat in my wardrobe unworn for&nbsp;2 years until I got them out this winter - and discovered how comfortable they are due to the wide, deep toe box (I have wide toes). I don't think my pair&nbsp;would be snow-proof like yours&nbsp;- but in my climate they don't need to be. I would buy the same brand again for the comfort alone.</p>
<p>Good luck with your next knitting project - it's a lovely pattern.</p>

<p>E, I love the teal jacket.&nbsp; It works to give the illusion of long legs, so if it's comfortable, I'd keep it and love it.&nbsp; It's a wonderful color for you.&nbsp; And your dandy overcoat is absolutely fantabulous.</p>
<p>Now about the skirt.&nbsp; If you love it, then by all means disregard my following comment - but here's the thing - I don't think Mary Russell would compromise on fit like that, even if she were just tramping through the woods or seeing to the bees.&nbsp; (Lyra on the other hand, would happily wear it.)

<p>That colour combination is breathtaking on you, Eva. Absolutely stunning! The jacket looks fantastic -- as Diana says, it has a bit of a vintage vibe. And yay for dry feet!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Love the kitty pin, too. :)&nbsp;

<p>These colors are great on you and they hint of spring. I'm smiling at your deep snow experience; you can't always tell how deep snow is by looking at it, can you?! I've done the same thing and ended up with cold legs and soaked pants. Not fun.

<p>This outfit suits you so well, with the gorgeous, muted colors, feminine lines and retro, casual feel. Perfection! I had fun picturing you wading through thigh-high snow, carrying Thistle! Is she jealous of your cat (pin)? (ha ha)

<p>Can we start an amendment to add blue-green to the rainbow? It happens to be the most widely represented color in my wardrobe in its many variations, light and dark, and I was attracted by the title of your post. You never disappoint with your outfits E. This is a fantastic look and uniquely you. You have a well defined style and I really admire how well you are able to curate your wardrobe and find pieces that fit your personality/style perfectly.

<p>love the sweater/jacket comfort of a sweater but look of a jacket - can't get any better then that.<br />The color teal is beautiful. &nbsp; As always you look great in your outerwear. &nbsp;Quite the adventure you and Thistle had in the snow.</p>

<p>Yay, teal! Of course I love this. :). The knit jacket is great and looks very comfy. I think the high waist works with the vintage-y vibe. </p>
<p>That's a great looking knitting pattern too. What yarn are you going to use?

<p>I love your teal jacket. &nbsp; Now I want something like it. &nbsp;I feel the same way about wearing jackets around the house. &nbsp; They really don't let you move. &nbsp;I really can't tell that this jacket is hitting your waist at the wrong place. &nbsp;Maybe the skirt is just hiding your natural waist. &nbsp; That is a very pretty cardi pattern....will it be blue-green? &nbsp; (P.S. I do recommend snow shoes. &nbsp;I have a pair and love them!)

<p>I'm pretty sure Newton should have given the blue-green colour family its own name &amp; status as the 7th colour of the rainbow (did you know he wanted 7 colours for philosophical purposes, not scientific ones?), instead of picking indigo. I might be biased, as blue-greens are some of my favourite colours, and it gets inconvenient having to always refer to them in hyphen form (sure, I could say teal, but that leaves out the lighter shades, which I also love).</p>
<p>Anyway, today I decided to wear tonal variations of my favourite colour group. As it's still chilly, I already knew I'd be wearing wool on bottom, and it felt like a skirt day. So tweed skirt it was (which requires a belt to keep it up), plus my mint silk blouse.&nbsp;I couldn't resist adding my teal socks too, just for fun.&nbsp; Then I reached for this teal boiled wool blazer; I ordered this from Ebay in December, because I've been wanting to try a knit jacket. I was so excited to see teal &amp; wool &amp; a peplum for a very low price that I completely forgot to ask about the length between the shoulder seam &amp; waist seam. I'm long waisted, and&nbsp;this hits a bit&nbsp;higher than my natural waist (which is the story of almost every jacket &amp; dress in my closet, and part of why I want to learn to sew). Live and learn!</p>
<p>The good news is, I was able to wear this all day comfortably indoors, going about my computer-ing and cooking and knitting and reading and lounging without any discomfort. I love the look of regular jackets, but consider them outerwear, as I can't do my usual home puttering in them. So I'm very excited that the pseudo-jacket (a cardigan in jacket's clothing?)&nbsp;functioned so well, as one of my Christmas gifts was this <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.purlalpacadesigns.com/product/isis-tailcoat-knitting-pattern/">knitting pattern</a> and enough yarn to make it up. I'm going to cast on this week,&nbsp;so that it will be ready by spring! And I'll be able to add enough length so that the waist is in the right spot, so there. My cat pin hopped on to the lapel, for a bit of fun.</p>
<p>It's still chilly here, but not bitterly so, which let me opt for a lighterweight wool jacket. The bracelet sleeves are surprisingly functional, in that they allow me to take my mittens on &amp; off without needing to stuff the cuff back into the jacket. I kept a touch of the blue-green going in the hat, but otherwise went with tonal greys.</p>
<p>I have to give a shout-out to my boots, which are the Reiker Sybille. After taking these photos I went to the woods, and on the way back foolishly decidedly to take the shortcut across the field of untouched snow, because how bad could it be? Pretty soon, I had snow 5" up my thigh, but my feet &amp; calves stayed completely dry. No leaking anywhere &amp; the wool lining managed to stop the snow from dropping into the boot, despite every foot step plunging me into thigh deep snow. (Don't worry: Thistle was safely above it in my arms.) I'll be babying them with some polish soon, to make reparations for such cruel treatment. And&nbsp;next time I'll go the longer way or take up snowshoeing! ;)</p>
<p>All feedback, suggestions, criticisms, etc. welcome as always! I included the awkward arms photo (I think I was trying to roll down my cuff &amp; suddenly noticed the camera was about to go, lol), because it lets you see the shape of the jacket better.
