I really like this outfit on you. The top is not too long at all, in fact I think it’s perfect, esp layered with the jacket. I like the “peeking out” effect.

Sounds like a rough week. Sorry for you loss, and I’m glad Alaska is doing well. I love your stories of the strength and comfort you get from your jewellery.

I can really see you in chunky loafers. Great idea!

Thank you, Lynn. Our girl is doing so well!

Brooklyn, your grandmother’s jewlery and the ring your husband made for you must be very special pieces. I am glad they give you courage and comfort.

Joy, thank you. I will repeat this tunic with several of the suggestions from fabbers on this board. I am so happy that it doesn’t look too long. As a petite, I am very conscious of proportion. If things are even a bit too long they can go from polished to a little sloppy looking. I hope you will enjoy wearing your sentimental pieces of jewelry. I enjoy mine so much.

LOL Shevia. I am not an insect fan either! Not one bit! IRL I avoid them and am quick to shoo them away!

Your outfit looks just right and I am utterly charmed by your little insect pin, even though I am no insect fan!

Main lady, you look wonderful in this outfit. The tunic looks fine to me. You have fabulous long legs and can wear tunics well. Not too much blue at all.
Most of all I enjoy your jewelry collection and the comfort jewelry concept. I need to go though mine and put those comfort and sentimental pieces in a special place. Lots of love to Alaska. She sounds like a trooper.

I get the emotional support jewellery. I was very close to my grandmother and I always wear her engagement ring and a bracelet of hers when I need courage. I also got my husband (who makes coin rings as a hobby) to make me a coin ring from the year of her birth and I wear it almost all the time. It’s a connection to those we love (and have lost).

I am sorry for your loss and about your dog (I get that too!). Glad to hear Alaska is doing better.

You look lovely in a casually fabulous way. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you SarahD, JAileen and Sterling. I think my fur girl can feel the kind wishes. She has had a very good day with lots of tail wagging.

SarahD chunky soled loafers are a great idea! I really don’t have any, but I should. They would be great shoes to wear when I need a little extra to navigate the weather, but a full on boot is not needed. I think some shoe shopping will be in my near future.

Sterling, thank you. I talk all day and sometimes get tired of hearing my own voice. Writing is very cathartic. It helps me to process things and purge events of the day. It makes me happy to think you also have some special pieces that boost you up if you need them.

You did have a very tough day. First off, how can you have too much blue? You can’t. Second, I think your outfit looks great. I like a top peeking out from under a jean jacket. Third, I love your grandma’s bee pin. It’s adorable! I hope your dog continues to improve.

Mainelady, I’m so sorry for your loss. I am glad the surgery went well and am sending Alaska a “get well, old soul” scritch on the softest part of their ear.

I love the concept of emotional support jewelry and yours goes beautifully with this outfit. The length of the tunic looks perfect to me. When I glance at the picture I don’t really notice that you are wearing denim on denim - by which I mean, the outfit seems balanced an harmonious and does not scream “Canadian tuxedo,” cheeky daughter notwithstanding.

I don’t see anything that *needs* to be tweaked about the outfit but if you want to switch it up I like the idea of a red topper. For shoes, how about chunky soled loafers? I wore my patent tassel loafers twice last week and they were a nice respite from boots while also feeling substantial enough for the weather.

Angie, we must have been cross posting. Thank you so much! I often think that happiness is from the inside out and hadn’t really considered that style may be, too. Another aha! for me. I think you are right. Some of my “best” outfits are the ones that connect me to people and memories. External style enhanced by fond sentiments. I like that very much.

We have two 9 year old Siberian Huskies. They are brother and sister. Despite their age, they are our babies. They love the outdoors, but are house dogs and think they are lap dogs. We have BIG couches in our homes. We vacuum a lot!
Forest, our male has the same easy going temperament as our 27 year old son. He is a mellow and very healthy guy. Alaska, is spirited and feisty, just like our 30 year old daughter. (How their personalities align is uncanny, and quite entertaining.). Alaska has had health problems for the last three years, but the great thing is that she doesn’t seem to know she is sick. A true blessing. During a big burst of energy and joy, she tore a cruciate ligament, hence the surgery. She will need 6-8 weeks before her recovery is complete. She is doing so well! She budged her brother and beat him to the food dishes last night. It is clear that she is not going to let this surgery get in her way. Her new fashion find is a royal blue fabric cone. It looks quite lovely with her pure white fur. Such a pretty girl!

Dear friends (I going to just go ahead and think of you that way) your gentle words and kindness about my rough day mean so much to me. As always, ALWAYS, I so appreciate your time, thoughts and opinions. YLF has certainly broadened my views and boosted my confidence.

Jussie, you are so right. Sometimes we just need to acknowledge how we are doing and tuck in a little extra something to carry us through. For me it is often Therapy Jewelry.

Thank you Pat P. Yes, boots. Snow, mud, booties, high, low....they are going to be necessary for quit a bit longer.

Krishnidoux, thank you for your comments, especially about the denim. My daughter has me in her phone as Canadian Tuxedo. HAH! I am going to try your suggestion of wearing a chunky sweater over the blouse. I have not done that and I think I might really like it. I hope you enjoy wearing the brooch from your grandma. Thanks for the compliment about my legs! Ahaha! I got those from my other grandmother!

Tanstaafl, thank you. Flats, heels or other footwear would need to be packed. Ummmm I do have some red cowboy boots, but not sure I would wear them with this outfit to work. Those only come with me on our Wild West School Spirit day where I lead all the first graders in doing The Cowboy Dance.

Torontogirl, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope things improve for her, and you, very soon. How special to have that kind of “mom” for your very own! I do have red hunter boots!

Bijou, you just gave me an Aha! Yes, the denim jacket gives the outfit structure! I hadn’t really focused on that. I always look for warmth first. It makes me happy to think you have some of your mom’s jewelry.

Viva, thank you for the comments about my outfit! I am so sorry to learn of your losses. I am thinking that your neighborhood mom must have been quite an impressive woman and a loving inspiration to many. Strong women! May we always be surrounded by their warmth and wisdom.

La Pedestrienne, spring fever for shoes! I can identify with that and mud season....thank goodness for Hunter, Muck and Bogs! Your suggestion to change shoes at school is a good one. I do have plenty of storage space to tuck my boots. Sometimes I do take along a pair of shoes. The decision usually boils down to how full my bags are. I carry home two big bags each night. If I can fit a pair of shoes (or booties when the snow is deep) into a bag, I will change into them. If my bags are full I don’t plan to change shoes. I do keep a couple of basic flats at school to slip into if necessary. They serve a purpose, but don’t add much to my style quotient.

Katerina, thank you! I do have a red jacket that might look great with this blouse. It has large black buttons on it, so I will need to see how I like the looks of the black with the blue. I might not mind it at all! I am excited to try it! I thought of you when I put on the pin. . Ahh the necklaces. My grandmother had many religious pieces of jewlery. I have several of her Madonnas and two crucifix rings. My grandmother gave my twin sister and I each a gold dollar coin (1850). My sister had hers sauntered on to a pin. I had a coin holder with a bail made so I could wear mine without damaging the coin. I wear it often.

I am so sorry you had such a rough day on Thursday and I am glad that Alaska is feeling better. Of course you needed the special jewelry to provide some emotional support.

I like the outfit on you very much. To my eye, the blouse length is very good and not too much blue in the outfit. The booties look great too. Red flats sound great to pick up the colour in the blouse. Perhaps a red jacket or a beige one to echo the blouse?
What a lovely set of jewelry! I love the two necklaces together and the little bug is fantastic!

What a day -- so sorry for your loss, and glad Alaska is on the mend. The boots do not look out of place at all (the magic of bookending!), and the blue feels cohesive, not "too much" -- love the red accents in the top, and I can see why you'd be wishing for cute red flats. This is about when I start to pine for "spring shoes" knowing full well that once it warms up the mud will be ankle deep -- no spring here, just mud season. Is changing from outdoor shoes to indoor shoes too much trouble at your school? If you have a place to stash boots, you could think about some packable, brightly-coloured flats for indoor use.

I love the length and the print of the top - not too much blue for me! I think you could definitely wear red flats as an alternative but I also love these cute heeled boots. And your jean jacket is great, such a terrific shade.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I have had two very close friends lose their moms in the last week. One of them was like a second neighborhood mom to me, although also unlike my mom and in fact any mother I knew in the 70s (a practicing attorney and later a judge, quite limited in her homekeeping skills, but the gentlest soul you can imagine). It’s so hard to say goodbye to these great women. Thinking of you.

What a week you have had! Very glad to hear that Alaska came through the operation well and that the funeral was a celebration of a wonderful lady, but it is very hard losing the people we have known all our lives.

I love the proportions of this outfit, the cropped jacket gives the outfit structure, but retains a more casual feel than a more formal jacket or blazer.

For me, the highlight of the outfit is your beautiful jewellery, I particularly love how you have layered your necklaces. I love it when jewellery has special meaning and I get much comfort from the items that I own that belonged to my mother.

So sorry for your difficult day. So glad Alaska came though ok. What a lovely tribute to "mom"; my mom is that mom among my old high school friends and she is not well right now - I know some of my friends are almost as worried as I am. I'm sure your friend appreciates your loving memories! Your emotional connection to your jewellery makes it more beautiful, and I think you'll find yourself in good company on this forum on that score.
Your outfit is perfect - I agree with tanstaafl, maybe you need red wellies!!

I’m sorry you had such a rough day, but glad to hear that your dog is doing well and that you had something to help support your fragile emotions. The jewelry is lovely, and that insect pin is so fun! I’m not seeing any issues with the length of the tunic. The denim looks good with it, not too much blue at all. Red flats would definitely work for the outfit, but I’m not sure how they would work for your weather. Maybe you need a pair of red booties

This is a wonderful outfit, and you sport it perfectly. Tunic is not too long: it's relaxed, casual, fun at this length. You ask if the jacket adds too much blue. No matter what anyone says, denim on denim is a classic and equals to confidence. That's why a cropped denim jacket like this one is such a useful item to own IMO. You can really play with long/short. Here is balances out the longer shirt nicely. You could try a chunky knit cardigan with this too, for a cosier evening feel.
Booties are perfect, bookend your hair, provide interest too. You have great legs BTW!

(PS: I also inherited a similar bee brooch from my own grandma!)

I agree with Jussie - this top looks really good. I think the length is quite flattering. And red shoes can always provide a boost. But if your winter is like mine (I'm also in NE), boots are still a necessity!

Sorry you had a rough day. yep sometimes you just need to wear something that’s right for your mood.
I think the length of the top is fine- and the outfit is really nice. Of course, red flats are always awesome.

WARNING: it appears I have written a novel. Skip to the pics to bypass my therapy session. Gotta love the ability to scroll on by!

Ok, I needed a break from my beloved turtlenecks. (Absence makes the heart grow fonder with clothes, too.). On Friday the temps had dropped again, so I wore a navy long sleeved Under Armour with a scooped neck beneath my blouse to combat the chill. I also wore a denim jacket while in the classroom. I traded the denim jacket for my navy blazer ( no pic) to attend an IEP meeting.
I selected some of my emotional support jewelry to wear. I know, you are probably wondering just what the dickens is emotional support jewelry, right? Most of my jewelry is linked to memories and emotions. I have some pieces that give me extra comfort when I wear them. The pieces I chose on Friday made me feel more connected to my grandmother.
Thursday was a rugged day. I attended the funeral of the mother of one of my dearest friends. We have been friends since grade school and “mom” was mom to everyone. Hers was the house we all descended upon at all hours, often unannounced, and were welcomed with hugs, food, humor and love. On Thursday I also had to take one of my dogs in for surgery. Alaska is getting older and has some health issues, but the surgery was necessary and I admit that this mama was holding it together on the outside but an emotional hot mess on the inside. The funeral was sad, but an incredible lovely and perfect tribute to an angel of a woman. My dog came through surgery with flying colors and is recovering well. Phew! So Friday was going to be a better day, but I was feeling a bit fragile, so emotional support jewelry was in order.
I deliberately chose jewelry that had belonged to my grandmother: a tiny Madonna pendant, a gold coin I had made into a pendant, a crucifix ring (not shown) and an insect brooch. Wearing jewelry from my grandmother gave me an extra dose of strength, comfort and love. I felt my little fragile self beginning to heal and headed out the door determined to have a great day. Yes, yes, I did!
Ok, enough of the drama. This outfit breaks away from my uniform a bit. I like the long tunic blouse because of the color and comfort. Is it too long on me? With the denim, did I have too much blue going on? What other topper can you suggest for me? Thoughts on footwear? Red flats? I love my booties, but I think I might need a little break from them, too. It has been a long cold winter.

Thank you for your discerning eyes and candid comments. I appreciate your time and the guidance you give!
