Thank you everyone, sorry I had to post and run! You're analysis was really helpful, it's always more difficult to see these things yourself. I didn't feel bad in this outfit, but now I know why I didn't feel as fab in it as in some other stuff lately.

Also thanks for the sympathy. I do hope we're going to find him a nice companion! The vet gave my mum the number of a guinea pig breeder in a nearby town who's also taking old guinea pigs when they're left alone and/or the owners can't care for them anymore. We'll see if there is an older female there whom Oskar gets along with and then we'll take that one in foster care. Whether we keep it or give it back when it lives longer is up to us I think.

Pil, my sister wished for them when she was small and they were a present for her, but they've fast become family pets. I agree that they have a good life with us, I was always sad when I saw one alone in a tiny cage in a flat somewhere. They're normally outside the whole year, in a big movable cage my father build (they're like lawn mowers) in summer and in a hothouse in winter. We only take them inside when it gets very cold. And they have free run of the whole garden when there's someone to look after them, the pics were taken on one of these occasions.

It is so hard to lose our furry little friends.

You already have some great advice,so I feel a bit like an echo. I feel like the outfit accentuates your pear tendancies rather than balance them out. So I think eith a more streamlines skirt or a top with more volume over the arms would work.

so sorry about your guinea pigs :(. I feel like Suz about your outfit. It's not bad at all but the colour summation is a good one. A pattern may be a good fix. Also a skirt slightly narrower may balance if you want to try that route instead. You're a bit of a pretty pear and the sleevelss topper makes for a narrow effect up top, so you aren't balanced as well as you could be.

I wonder if a lighter color top might make a difference? Similar in depth of color (if that is the right phrase?) to your skirt - which I love by the way.

I'm sorry about little Lola. I didn't know you had guinea pigs! We used to have three and I really enjoyed them, probably more than my kids did! They really do have their own personalities and make cute little noises - especially when they hear the vegetable bag rustle. Yours look like they are living large with that great cage and the free range dining outside! I hope Oskar enjoys his soon to be new companion.

I'm so sorry about your fur babies. That kind of thing is so hard.

Something is off to my eye, too. I like Suz's suggestion of a print top.

Oh, Astrid - I am so sorry!! It's so sad to lose our animal friends.

For the outfit, I don't mind it a bit. But I wonder if finding a way to marry the colours a bit more (i.e. a patterned top including the skirt colour and black) might be helpful. Sometimes I find that 3 solid colours in an outfit (or even three neutrals, as here) can lack some coherence.

Sorry about Nele and Lola, Astrid! I hope you find Oskar a nice companion.

As for the outfit, it looks fine to my eye, but since you wanted suggestions, I'll try :). I wonder if it's the vest that's not playing as well with the other items? Or perhaps if the shoes bookended either the vest or your hair, the outfit would look more pleasing to your eye?

But personally, I think you wear full skirts very, very well, and the outfit does not look "bottom-heavy," IFYWIM.

Aww, too sad about the piggies.

I think a more fitted skirt would work better with the closer fitting top and vest. It looks like a proportion thing to my eye, the skirt is heavy and pulling the eye down?

Here's what I wore yesterday. Both the library and our office are quite muggy, it's often warmer inside than outside in the sun. I'm not quite satisfied with the way this looks, but I can't say what bothers me exactly. Any idea how I could have tweaked this?

I think I need to build a warm weather work capsule next year...

And I just got a call from home with sad news, the second of our three guinea pigs died just two weeks after her daughter. Both Nele and Lola will be missed. Now there's only Oskar left and he was the oldest one by far! He outlived three ladies... The saddest thing is my mum had taken Lola to the vet yesterday and she stayed there the night. This morning when they called that Lola had to be put down she also took Oskar to see if he had anything and Oskar snuggled up to Lola at once and didn't leave her side until it was time for them to take her away... We're getting an old lady guinea pig for him when we come back from our holiday so he doesn't have to be alone in his retirement.

#2 is Nele, #3 Lola and #5 the old guy.
