Interesting that people like the high-contrast look. This is the one I was most unsure about.

Brooklyn - it is ombre, so perfect! I've had this hat for quite a few years now. Ombre has staying power.

Oh those shoes are fun Suz. I was seriously considering the Ecco slip-ons--I really like the quilting on the ones you show--but I just thought that black is not going to work for summer and some of the other colours were too subdued.

StyleFan - I could see brights for holiday events though. Bright earth tones I love paisley too, but this is a new thing for me.

Patterns. I love paisley. Flower Child, 60s nostalgia, whatever.... I rarely wear patterns but I adore paisley. I only wear patterns in scarfs. And socks. I also like leopard and cheetah prints. But I don't wear them.
Bright colours. Occasionally I wear them. I stick to neutrals. I like bright colours but I prefer neutrals. I think this is because I had a colourful face. My hair was strawberry blonde, my eyes are turquoise and my cheeks are very peachy. If I wore bright colours I felt like a clown.

I don't crave bright colours but I do crave colour. I tend to gravitate to muted colours rather than brights. I love your beanie (is it Ombre? That makes it perfect ) and your bright scarf. All your outfits are fabulous but no 3 is a standout.

Haha, Andrea! Yes they are the Ecco soft vi!
I got into the same trouble: got the low version and then went for the high tops.
Hope you enjoy yours. (PS: calling them Shoes and not Sneakers takes some of the sting out of the price.)

For me, the light does affect my colour choices. For example, I really really don't want to wear black in springtime. But my latest "colour kick" I think is motivated by all the maximalism I'm seeing. I guess I'm impressionable :-)

Thanks jlpp, Rachy, kkards, texstyle, amiable, muffin, bj1, Kelly girl, Approprio, Meredith, sisi, and zoiechic.

Jaileen, I'm in Ottawa and for the past few weeks it has been very very humid and I have to turn on the a/c or the heat to get rid of it a bit. As Suz says, we don't have unrelenting rain and grey skies like the PNW (terrible weather in the PNW ;-)) but it is HUMID.

Suz, thanks as always for commenting. I'm looking forward to a quite a few more wears in the snakeskin Eccos before retiring them. I'll try to get the find for the Ecco sneakers.

JAileen, Ottawa is almost exactly parallel to where you were staying. I am just a fraction south of that. And yes, at this time of year, humidity will cause the light at this longtitude to feel "softer" or more filtered. It probably feels less intense at any time because of the different elevation. (I'm only 83 feet above sea level here.)

Suz, last week my husband and I were in Minnesota. I live at 39.5 degrees N latitude, at 4700 feet in elevation. We were staying at 45.0 degrees N, at 700 feet in elevation. I think we're about 500 miles south of St Paul, although much much further west.

I noticed the light being different, but it was also very humid and I think that caused the sunlight to be weaker. It was remarkable how different it was. I wore grey every day, naturally. I felt good, but I don't want to wear those clothes for awhile!

JAileen, I think that's a smart observation. I do think I'm influenced by light in my dressing, although it's not so much that sun makes me need less colour as that the quality of light combined with temperatures makes me crave different versions of my best colours. I love reds and pinks in winter (these are my warm colours) and vivid blues in summer (with white).

Smittie and I live in northern cities about 2 hours apart.

In the north, the days are short. So even sunny days do not give us a lot of light. In winter it can be dark by 4:30 pm or even earlier on a stormy day.

Where Smittie and I live, we don't experience unremitting cloud -- it is not like the PNW. Throughout fall and winter, we do get lots of clear, bright sunny days with sharp reflections off the snow -- particularly in her city which is colder and has longer winters than mine. (I live on the lake and it moderates the temperatures and snowfall and gives me slightly more cloudy days, I think).

However, my city especially is built of grey limestone so with bare branches on trees, grey streets, grey buildings. On sunny days this does not bother me, but if we go through a cloudy or rainy stretch it can be depressing.

Truth is, though, I love colour in summer and winter alike! I adore my neutrals, don't get me wrong. Ink, navy, denim, black, grey, white -- these are the staples of my closet. But without pops of bright colour I start to feel very depressed in any season.

I was wondering if your boots were the navy snake ones. I love them! I see from Suz' post that they are. I like your outfits as is, especially #5. I love the blues. I think the muted colors are soothing, and they look really good on you.

I'm trying to think if I wear bright colors. Not that I can think of, and I feel fine. I have tried to stick to my color scheme of blue and grey and olive. I did buy the baby blue Furla bag, though. I had a thought about colors. I live in an extremely sunny place and I'm fine with muted colors. Are you in a cloudy place? I wonder if that makes people crave color.

Waving at my bootie twin!! These are great booties, aren't they? Here's the Find for those interested. They are a bit wide on the ankle for me but that makes room for a thicker sock.

LOVE your sneakers, too. Do you have a Find for those? I've been seriously tempted by the Ecco 7 hightops since I love the low version so much (same ones you have).

These are gorgeous outfits and you look amazing. I would wear every one of these in a heartbeat. (We do have a really similar style I think and similar body type.) I think 3 and 7 are my very favourites -- 3 for the great contrast and the beautiful jacket, and 7 for the fun juxtaposition.

Also I love your pink scarf!! Where did it come from?

I, too, have been craving colour in my winter wardrobe, but that is pretty much always true for me. I have several bright pullovers (similar to the pink in your Find) and I have a red coat which I unfortunately don't wear a lot because it's quite dressy. I would like a more casual red coat. I agree that the burgundies are gorgeous but don't give that "pep" that I crave. For me they are neutral. I do use scarves a lot for colour as well.

It's been a little strange to wear something so bright but I really love it. I bet you would get a ton of use from the leopard clutch too. I really think of it as a neutral but just different enough to add variety.

Pretty outfits, I especially love nr. 3 - very chic! I understand you about the color, I feel a huge need of color these days. Unfortunately Autumn/Winter clothes are mostly made in neutrals. I want to go chase some bright colors during the next shopping trip.

You have great footwear! I love your boots and the sneakers are fab. My winter wardrobe is heavy on neutrals but it wasn't a conscious decision. It just sort of happened. I added a few bright tops at the end of last winter to try and remedy the situation. I'll have to see how I feel this winter - if I maybe need to add more or if I have enough for variety.

My office is very casual, but wearing sneakers to work is pushing some personal boundaries (though not office boundaries). I wanted to wear them because I love them.

It's been interesting taking pictures every day. The thing I notice is that there is not much colour or silhouette variation.
I think I'm ok with little silhouette variation, but the lack of colour is Feeling 'not me'. It might be Angie's influence or the influence of all the maximalism I've been seeing.

This summer I made a point of adding colour and I thought I wouldn't want colour for winter, but I was mistaken. I think I'm going through a style shift towards a more cheerful look.

I still don't want pattern, but would like clear colours like bright pink (not blush), bright blue, green and red.

Below are some of the things I like now, that I wouldn't have considered before.

Anybody else feeling like they need brighter colours, even in the winter?

ETA: Added finds for my footwear (Ecco, Ecco, and La Canadienne tall boots)
