She had been living in her own house, walking and driving, and now she's in a wheelchair in a nursing home. My mother lives in a retirement home fairly independently, although she doesn't do her own cooking. The evening after her surgery I felt like a weight had been lifted off me. It had gone well, she came out of the anesthesia well, and was very talkative. I knew she was going to be okay. In spite of her age, mentally she's probably twenty years younger. I know that physically, she's going to have to work hard at her rehab. My Mom fell about 5 years ago and cracked a vertebrae in her back.&nbsp;It eventually healed, but she&nbsp;has been in very low level pain most of the time since then. My mother had her knee surgery today and it went very well. She was very perky and talkative this afternoon. She may be released tomorrow or the next day. Her retirement home has an associated health center with physical therapy. My 86-yo mum fell yesterday (4th time in 18 days) and broke her arm. She went from relatively independent on June 1 to needing 24 hour caregivers as of yesterday. I suspect she has had a tiny stroke that has not impeded her cognition but has damaged her balance centers. Alas.
