Jurocha - I think it's lovely how you and your Mom are connecting over fashion, even if sometimes her choices aren't exactly what you would have chosen. She clearly puts much thought into her gifts for you.

I love your first outfit with the white jacket and black shorts - I think that looks fab with the white sneakers. And your home work outfits are great too. I do agree that the white jeans aren't the best and you deserve better. Really like your grey jeans.

Gals, I had less time than I imagined I would have for my fashion homework today. Nonetheless, as I promised updates, I squeezed some minutes for the outfit try-out this morning. Shall we get down to it, then?

@Diane G: I don't own a tuxedo style shirt. I tried with a silk button-down instead. I believe it worked (I liked it!) with the indigo skinnies, but not with the grey straight-leg. But then I guess the straight-leg is to blame: its fit isn#t really good on me.

@Suz: The lengthening the leg line-effect I got by pairing the white sneakers and the white jeans really pleased me. These white jeans are being sent back anyways, though. I still find a lot of errors on it: the zipper is weirdly stitched, the fabric is sheer (and it puzzles me how a jeans could ever be sheer) and I am still not comfortable with the way it hugs my hips. I will order some white pants from other shops (Mango has some nice ones...) and try it again. Thanks for the tip!

@Lantana: Nude lace skirt and sneakers are a go! Things didn't went so well with the black skirt. Was this what you had in mind when you mentioned floaty chiffon/Korean fashion?

@Liz: Side views of the high sneaker now available. You can see them on the pics with the white and the indigo jeans.

PS: Apart from the pics where I am wearing indigo jeans (and a white button-down), I have just an old, worn-out, boatneck T-shirt. Don't consider that as part of the styling in any of the outfits... I was fresh out of bed and had some house chores to take care of bf rushing to a class.

Thanks again for all the comments and support!

First off, I do think the shoes are great in and of themselves. I also really like the way you styled them here, with the shorts and polished blazer. I'd try them with a black pencil skirt too. Maybe harem pants.

@Lantana: I hv a black and a nude lace skirt that ressemble your description. They are mini on lenghts, but are flowy. I got them on a flee mkt and hvn't worn them yet... having problems with toppers. I will try them with these sneakers too. Thanks, many thanks for the suggestion!

Thx gals for all positive feedback (and sorry for the misspelling of "heel" on the original post; just saw it and couldn't help but imagine some iwantchezzburger Lolcat meme!)

@Diane G: I hv a straight grey jeans and a dark indigo skinny. I will try both; I admit though that I am not a fan of jeans+sneakers on me. I am short, and this combo usually makes me feel and look too much like a teenager. When I wear jeans, I must dress them up with pumps (well, or tall boots. I feel OK on a jeans+tall boots combo even when the boots don't hv heels.) Anyways, with a tuxedo shirt the dressing up part will be covered. Thx for the tip!

@Suz: I ordered a white jeans online and it arrived a few days back. I didn't think of the white sneakers when trying the jeans on... silly me. I felt I lack shoes options for the jeans, plus they made me feel a bit too... hm... round on the hips. I will give the white jeans another go. Thx!

Updates with your suggestions coming soon.

PS: I am probably the only person who thinks jeans are more teenager/casual/less dressy than short shorts. Just realized this big nonsense concept of mine.

What a wonderful story. And how kind of you to try to find a way to please your mother by wearing the shoes. I think you are wearing them absolutely brilliantly here. I love the juxtaposition. And I think you will get more used to the white once you have worn it a bit more.

Another way to try would be with white jeans (if you have). That way, the white wouldn't feel so "in your face" but would continue to lengthen the leg line.

I have been wearing my white sneakers also with skirts, believe it or not.

This is a charming story Jurocha. As someone of your mother's generation it makes me smile warmly to read of your caring relationship with her.
I love those shoes on you and the styling with the studded shorts is clever. I have seen some amazing juxtapositions of this kind of rugged footwear with floaty chiffon skirts, Korean style fashion, you know? You could pull off that kind of look easily, if it appeals of course.

I like how you styled them with your white jacket. How about a tux type shirt under a darker jacket and some straight or skinny jeans?
Or just the tux shirt and no jacket if it's too hot.

Temperatures outside: 28 degrees Celsius and sunshine. Plus today I am just going grocery shopping, having a coffee in a Austrian-Starbucks-like Backery in my village and coming back home to work on a translation job. No meetings, no University, so... casual, easy living.

OK, my title isn't completely true. The story is rather long, though, so bear with me.

My mother was the one who introduced me to high sneakers. She loves the trend, but think it's too much for a 67-year-old woman. She lives vicariously then through me: she gave me the red high sneakers you see on the bottom of the 1st pic for Christmas and I was schocked - at first. After some wear-to-please-mum outfits (and an Angie's ensemble inspired cargo olive green shorts, white top and red accessories outfit) and a picknick, I fell in love with my high sneakers. I thanked my mother a hundred times for them and she noticed it wasn't just out of politeness... I truly liked and was wearing them.

(My mother and my style differed drastically when I was younger. I mean, what I liked for myself and what she liked for me differed greatly: she would see me on short, colorful fitting frocks and kitten hills sandals while I as a teen and a YA favored all black or white and black only outfits, knee or below the knee flared skirts and All Stars. None of my All Stars are left, but there was a time when I had a small collection of them - a dark military green one, two different black models and a white! Because of this "gap" and the history of flop gifts when she tried to steer my style towards hers... She eventually gave up giving me clothes.)

As I grow older, and slowly incorporate colour and heels to my wardrobe, my mother begins to dare giving me clothes once again. I also appreciate her gifts much more now, even when they don't fit my style, just because I understand her better - now that I no longer am the little spoiled punk I once was (teenagers!) - and because I value the effort she puts behind everything she does - and the effort she puts on preparing and sending me gifts from Brazil.

So... she figured out I was looking for a white leather All Star by talking to a common friend of ours. She couldn't find any white leather All Star back home (neither could I looking online and local shops)... But she found, bought and sent me this white leather high sneaker from a Brazilian brand. I don't like the golden spikes, I don't like the shoelaces (the red ones have velcro instead of shoelaces), its white is so... white, right-in-your-face winter white.

But... I was touched for all the trouble she went when picking these shoes for me. I want to like them badly! I want to wear them as much as I wear the red ones; to make mommy happy, makes me happy. So... can you gals help me style them?

So far I stuck to bookending them with white jackets. What other ideas do you give me? At this pic, I am wearing blue tweed shorts with golden threads and spikes - to mimic the shoes style - a white cami and a white blazer.
