Meredith, the detachable-ness makes it trickier to layer under blazers, but at least it's easy to pop over any and all knitwear. There's a sad dearth of peter pan collared blouses at the secondhand level, so this was my solution until the trend trickles down.

Thnx Beth Ann! I'm glad it reads as relaxed/every day life as I always try to make sure I'm not looking costume-y. Lol to your Lucy comment! I'd love to have a classy sparkly barrette for my hair, as a sort of nod to tiaras. Not sure where I'd find one tho!

Astrid, I love jewelry w a story too. :)

AG, I hunted for velvet trousers for at least 2 years before finding these. It was an exciting day! Hehe

Thank you Diane.

Lovely to see you E and I'm glad you're feeling better. I do love the subtle sparkle and lovely velvet texture. Plus a great silhouette with the cape. The slouch of your trousers looks fine to me.

Ooh! A little subdued sparkle! And luxurious velvet trousers! And a collar! And a cape!

And you know what? It's all still relaxed and very wearable in everyday life.

Lucy would find a way to wear a tiara under her beanie -- even in London!

I’m so glad everyone likes the trousers the way they are! Less work to not alter them of course. I just don’t trust my eye on fit yet, because I used to compromise on it so much.

MG, you should definitely get a cape! Surprisingly warm & practical too. And I’ll keep an eye out for the book.

Thanks Claire! I haven’t watched the Narnia movies, because I want to keep ‘my’ Narnia from reading the books in my head instead of the movie images. But it’s always so tempting to watch worlds come to life!

Caro, I will try them w my oxfords. I only have 1 really usable pair, but at least they’re grey so should work well!

Aww: thanks Suz. I hadn’t caught up on Angie’s blog, so I popped over to figure out the sparkly sweater reference. It was kismet! ;)

Thank you Firecracker; I love texture, and I love the way you style your clothes, so I really appreciate it. :D

Diana, I knit my berets w a tight enough brim that they usually behave themselves, but they’re not easy to stuff in a pocket (as most of them took 200 yards of worsted weight & are thus gigantic, lol), so I like that aspect of the beanie. I’m glad it works on me; maybe I just need to adjust to the different look. And I suspect being velvet helps every piece of clothing! hehe

Thank you Astrid; it was my 16th birthday present (my mom’s family had a tradition of giving rings for that birthday) & I’m so relieved it still works with my style so many years later. I will wear the beanie with confidence now, so thanks for that as well!

I love the look, with cape and without! I think the trousers look fine here, but if you think they would be more useful slimmed down then alter them. I really like the beanie, I think you can wear this style just as well. I'm also really loving the close up in #1, the sparkly stripes are just so luxe with the velvet and your ring is gorgeous.

I love your cape! I think the trousers work here - they are nice and slouchy and look quite luxe. It helps that they're velvet. :)

Hat looks great too. It looks like it has some slouch at the crown which is how I like my beanies too. much as I like berets, beanies do stay put much bette so it will be good for snowy romps through the woods and the like!

I love the trousers with those gray lace-up boots. I like their slouchy vibe with the boyish looking shoes, and then your feminine sweater, cape and hat. Such a cool look. Your use of texture is so appealing.

Sorry I've been gone so long! The usual health issues are to blame. But yesterday I started feeling better, and today I needed to take care of business, so I opted for a simple outfit that felt 'effective' to me but also had fun touches (hello velvet). The business I needed to take care of was via phone, and then random errands, so I was still dressing for me rather than others. I promise I wouldn't wear my detachable peter pan collar for serious meetings with serious people. The end result reminded me a bit of what Lucy Pevensie might have worn if she'd stayed in England and not Narnia, but I'm not sure I can justify that feeling. Regardless, I was happy in it & I got everything done that I needed to! Excuse the crooked sweater hem in the photos; this is why I'm naturally team RATE. Even when I remember to straight my collar I overlook something else! lol

I've adjusted to my new climate, and today's high of 39 felt quite balmy, so my alpaca cape and a wool hat were enough to keep me warm. I did wear my mittens for my evening walk when it was cooler, but forgot to photograph them! My hands get cold first. Anyway, it was also a dry day, so I was happy to be able to wear my beloved grey ankle boots.

I'm pretty sure I need to skinnify these trousers, as they don't seem to work well w shoes at their current in-between fit. But what do you think? Also, this is the most recent hat I knit, and I accidentally made it a beanie instead of a beret. I'm not sure whether the shape works on me; should I reknit it?

And now that I've pestered you w questions I'm off to see what everyone else has been up to!
