You are absolutely right; I did not own a light coloured jacket (except a spring/summer one that doesn't work in cooler temperatures). And I was feeling as if I needed something lighter. This winter white happens to be a really good colour for me. That's not necessarily evident in the photos (flash, Christmas lights and all) but my husband was immediately taken with it, which is usually a good sign. </p> <p>I think I can partner this jacket with something other than black, but at the moment I don't have a lot that will work with it. It does work with charcoal and navy, and if I owned a red or raspberry top that would also work. What other colours might set it off, I wonder? </p> <p>It's actually NOT wool...which is good in that it will comfortably take me into spring. It's a blend that includes some acrylic and some silk and I'm not sure what else. Up here, March and April are still very cold, yet a person's eyes are sick to death of the dark winter colours and craving something "spring-like." But this is vintage and new or nearly new couturier, designer, and high end ready-to-wear at Gap to Banana Republic prices. </p> <p>Friends, I opened my wallet. </p> <p>This polka dot jacket was my first purchase. It is by Catherine Curtis, a Canadian designer who, appropriately enough, originally hails from the city where I now live. <a href="http://www.catherinecurtis.ca/flash.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.catherinecurtis.ca/flash.html</a></p> <p>It's a bit difficult to tell in the pics but the fit is superb. </p> <p>ETA: I should have got a photo with the jacket done up as well. It has a really interesting front. The collar is a traditional one that can be popped (I see it is crooked in the pics - eep!) But instead of a lapel, there is just a plain V that goes to below the breast bone, and then the two little buttons. It is simple, but unusual and (I think) quite flattering. </p> <p>Got my hair cut today, too. She went even shorter and I'm not entirely sold on it yet but will probably be happy with it once it settles down a bit. </p>
