yes, i wear heels mostly, and I am a runner so I think your comments make sense. I have found some very low heeled shoes (Dana Buchman makes a cute, inexpensive one that seems to get slightly changed each season at Kohls) that works better for me. The BR flats do have some cushioning, but overall I feel like I'm walking barefoot in flats!

This is a very exciting and challenging time for the whole family, and I'm sure that you're proud of your son's achievements and looking forward to the next chapter.

You look marvelous --- graphic, modern and easy. Do the flats have some cushioning and arch support? Are you usually wearing heels? I've that many women who wear heels regularly have shorter calf muscles and tighter achilles tendons which make a shift to flats a little uncomfortable. You might find a 1 inch heel or a tiny wedge more to your liking. Even though my feet tolerate flats with no support, I'm trying to pass these shoes by for ones with better structure. I can't replace my feet, and I know I'm on borrowed time!
Congratulations! What a wonderful moment for you and your family. Best of luck to your son. And you look terrific, very nice outfit for a college visit.

BTW, I'm just getting into wearing flats for the first time in my life as well. I'm not sure of the comfort factor yet, I've always worn a chunky heel, but I'm seeking out comfy versions of flats to experiment with. I found a nice pair at Clarks that I'm excited to wear. Maybe try flats made by Clarks or Born, etc. I also found a nice pair of black ballet flats with a concealed wedge at J.Crew, so not truly a flat flat. Good luck!

We just returned from a life-changing, epic event -- the deciding visit to the school where my oldest will attend college. This marks the end of a 2 year process, and a 3,000 mile journey since this time last year.

I wore :

Dress & leggings : H&M
Belt : Chicos
Thin cotton jacket : um...Lands End
Ballet Flats : Banana Republic
New bag : Banana Republic satchel (love this bag! I got it last week, and enjoyed seeing Mary's WIW the same day it arrived)

This is my first pair of flats ever. I got them for our trip to Argentina and I hate wearing them. Am I alone in thinking they are terribly uncomfortable? I didn't think I liked the way they looked, either, but I do actually like them in this picture. I see more in the future.

If you'll indulge me, I have to share a few things especially since I can't tell anyone else until he makes it official and starts telling people himself! My son is going to my alma mater. I cannot describe the emotions I am feeling. I wanted to go to this school more than life itself from the time I was 14, and I got wait-listed!! I ended up having to transfer in the middle of my freshman year. It was a tough place...I went through a lot there. I loved it, but it crushed me, and I carried it with me for a long, long time.

No one was more surprised than I when my son decided to apply. It was not his first choice, or his second. But, he got in first try and, he has decided to join the class of 2017. I think I cried about 14 times in the last 24 hours (sleep deprivation is not helping), I am so overwhelmed with memories and pride, and a weird feeling that the universe is righting itself. This kid is going to take it on and do it right. I ran the campus this morning, and regret and retribution has been replaced with hope and vision of good things to come.

This Jon Stewart's alma mater too. That was a definite entry in the plus column when my son was making the decision!

Name that second-oldest college in our nation....:)
