I love the boots, but agree with the overthinking comment - for me, it leads to feeling uncomfortable as I invariably end up wearing something that's not totally me ... rings back to the thread around "trying to hard" ... when I overthink I end up feeling like I tried to hard ... glad to hear it's not just me that runs into this difficulty at times!

You look gorgeous in the purple and the boots a perfect. I agree with Beth Ann about your blue jacket length, but I don't see a lot of over working in your outfit. Looks good! And yes I am guilty of over thinking sometimes.

Those boots are a great color to bookend with your hair. The outfit looks fun and I agree with BethAnn--the purple is gorgeous on you. Yes, overthinking can be a pain, but your outfit came out fine.

Thanks all. Glad to hear that I did't look too fussy. You are right BethAnn (and E) the coat was not the best choice, but I am making an effort to wear all of my many coats and see which ones need to be purged. I have a ridiculous amount of fleece - easily half a dozen fleece jackets if not more, some over 15 years old. Despite the pretty color of that one, both the (lack of) length and the light color conspire to make my torso look even bulkier and blockier than it already is.

Oh those aren't super dark brown shoes! They look very intentional and add a bit of boho. (From your question, for some reason I was envisioning an outfit with a lot of black and then dark brown-almost-black shoes.) I happen love grey & brown together, especially light grey. :)

Your final outfit looks fun, not fussy, although like Beth Ann I might have chosen different outerwear (I have a poison eye against fleece though, so feel free to just ignore me on that one). But I know exactly what you mean re: overthinking outfits. I *hate* those days and usually end up feeling a bit off balance because of it.

I'm with Beth Ann. You may feel fussy, but you don't look it! You look very well pulled together.

I think this shade of grey works really well in this outfit. If you hadn't mentioned your concerns, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. I love the colors in your scarf too.

I hate overthinking my outfits. I've done the same thing as you - tried to fix something that probably wasn't wrong in the first place and then felt even more uncomfortable after the fact. One of my goals for this year is to simplify my outfits/style generally - one less thing to stress about.

Love the brown shoes. They literally "ground" you with an "earthy" tone that bookends your hair. The grey is no problem at all. The best part is how glorious you look in this dark purple.

I do wish the blue jacket was longer than your sweater.

Hope you ankle heals quickly!

I'm one of these people who doesn't like to mix black/grey with brown. Most of the time this isn't a problem, but lately I've been having a lot of foot/ankle pain and it turns out my 3 most comfortable winter shoes/boots are all brown - but most of my winter wardrobe is black/grey based.
So today I started with my amazingly comfortably brown Fatbaby cowboy boots, mini-flare jeans, and purple cardigan. But the only layering T I have with me is this light grey one. OK, I thought, it's now fine to mix grey and brown, plus the brown sort of bookends my hair. But then I wanted the brown boots to look more intentional so I put on a brown/wood dragon necklace and some dark brown/red carnelian drop earrings.
For outerwear, this very old cornflower blue fleece jacket and a purple silk scarf (recycled from a sari) with purple fingerless gloves.
In retrospect I put waaaay too much thought into this very simple everyday outfit, got too fussy, and ended up looking a bit fussy, with too many shades of blue and purple, an unnecessary necklace, and rather unkempt looking hair (it's at an awkward, below the shoulders, but not yet really long length). Ah well, it's not like the skeletons cared, and I was comfortable and appropriate for a day in the collections.
Do you go wrong when you overthink your outfits?
