Hi Mo,
I'm late to this but have been sorting out some computer issues or I would have commented before now. I like the general idea of the oufit. I think AlaskaGirl's idea of extending the visual line of the sweater with a matching or similar cami is a great one. I don't really love the gray one. You could also try a shirt that is a little longer and maybe in a pattern layered underneath it to change the proportion. You do look cute and warm in it though!

I like this!

I haven't been around much recently and have noticed how quickly things whizz off the front page now.

I've been looking at some posts but realise that if I want to look at everything I can't comment intelligently on very much (not that I ever did actually!) without spending hours now!

Couldn't believe seeing you in cold weather gear. You've moved!

Rather like the ski bunny vibe...

Hi there!
About the outfit, I actually think that the "snow bunny" look is rather cute. In all honesty, I have always thought that you pull off pretty much anything you wear, because you own it.
As far as the feedback or lack thereof, I completely understand where are you coming from. I actually ran a "test" of posting my WIW a few weeks back and determined I cannot handle it. The cynical person in me always thinks that only those who like the outfit will post, whereas the critical comments I will never get. I also got a little paranoid when I saw that some of the "regulars" did not post a response, therefore I assumed the outfits were duds. hehe... I'm all in my head:)

I do have lots of respect for those of you who posts WIWs and put yourselves out there!

Alos, as other have pointed out, it is very hard to keep pace with posts. It seems that there is a complete turnover every hour or so.

I really like your outfit! I like matchy-matchy though even though I know a lot of other people frown upon it. I like how you paired it with a longer shirt to mitigate the shorter sweater.

I know what you're talking about with the the comments/posts. I feel the same way sometimes. I think maybe my outfits are too simple and not flashy enough to evoke a lot of comments (although that's my style and not likely to change).

I like this casual outfit. The soft colors are lovely against the green trousers and the sweater has some texture to it which works well to tie in the teture of the light color boots. Perfect outfit for running errands. As far as casual outfit posts, I don't mind them. I tend to favor my blazer and jeans outfits for work but often wear a simple sweater and jeans for weekends.

Malina, I like it - no it's not the very best outfit you've ever posted, but it's a great one for a casual, snowy day. Love those boots.

I think Deborah's idea of a looser sweater with a tank under it would look great on you, but I get that you are using what you have, rather than buying stuff! Maybe the underlayer being the same colour as the sweater would look better? But if you were pulling at the sweater all day, in a vain attempt to make it longer perhaps it would be better to donate and start again?!

Ah, I wish I had been reading the forum more today! I conked out at 7 from jet lag. I hope you know I appreciate all your casual looks very much - casual can be the most challenging for me in terms of flattery, and my weekends are very casual. I reallllly count on the inspiration. :)

I'm lukewarm about this outfit, but I think it's the horizontal lines created by top, cami, pants that niggle at me. I'm sensitive about this from my own dressing... I'm wondering if maybe this is a skirt-length top? Angie mentioned once when I wore my super cropped jackets that they look best over a column of color, too, so a same-colored pant and cami combo could do the trick, too.

Malina/Mo, I'm such a casual girl myself that I can probably live in three pairs of loose cropped pants/capris, 5 short T-shirts and 2 loose pillowcase tops for six months of a year --- and I did pretty much just that for most of the last two years! From that perspective, I find *your* casual style such a learning experience that I'm sometimes too awed to comment

And I do agree, casual that is fabulous is not only harder to pull off, but harder to appreciate as well, because to some people (and I say this only because I've BEEN guilty and sometimes still AM), casual is hardly even 'dressing up'. Ironically, perhaps people think it is 'too little effort' to dress casually, when it is harder to hold the line and not slump into frump? Though I have to say I hadn't noticed that tendency as much on YLF as on some other sites. (That said, on reflection, I've wondered whether greater appreciation of my casual Indian outfits sometimes comes from their more 'exotic' nature compared to my casual Western clothes.) And while I can see that it makes a positive difference to appearances, sometimes suggestions can tend to 'dressy-fy' an outfit that started out -- and intends to stay -- casual.

Now to your current outfit, I'm with Una in asking that you consider a closer colour for the underlayer. I love the tonal effect of this outfit, but the issue is that the switchover band is hitting at a point where it is suddenly widening your hip and making the top and bottom ends of you narrow by contrast! It wouldn't happen if the sweater were just a bit longer. So de-emphasizing the hemline seems a good idea in this case. (Alternatively, if weather allows, a longer jacket over the sweater, toning with the pants, or maybe an overshirt rather than a layer under?

Mo I hear what you are saying, and have to admit I have trouble keeping up with everyone's posts, and maybe sometimes I am more drawn to posts that are in keeping with what I am trying to achieve in my own wardrobe?

For the record I appreciate casusal outfit posts because this has been the area I have struggled the most with in the past and I have been in need of quite a bit of direction and inspiration.

So to your outfit. I found myself in two minds looking at it. It works. Proportions, colors etc, yet there is quite a 70's look to it. I could imagine one of the girls in That 70's Show wearing it:) And in fact I found my self thinking if Kate Moss (for example) was seen in this outfit the masses would think it was fabulous!

If you want to make the outfit look more current, my suggestion would be a modern, oversized sweater and still layer under it. Having said that I kind of like it as is. How do you feel in it?

Mo, I like the outfit, except perhaps the color of the layering t-shirt worn beneath the sweater. I do think I'd like it better if it were more of a similar color to the sweater.

I'm sorry if you feel like an outsider. I've never been very good at putting together casual outfits, so I lack the confidence to comment much. Even so, I love seeing your WIW posts, and this place wouldn't be the same without you.

Thank you all so much for indulging my slight foot stomping here. I'm sorry, it just sort of got to me all at once. And I VERY much appreciate all the ideas to rescue my poor short cream sweater lol! And there is something to the idea I guess, that sometimes running errands doesn't have to be a fashion moment per se, but that there are times where just passable is perfectly okay. Anyway, thanks again for the replies and especially to the fellow 'casualists' for understanding how sometimes it feels a bit outside of what's hot here.

It seems to me that all of you shorter shirts works when you layer something underneath them like you do here. The only thing that is bugging me is that the sweater is white and the boots are cream, so they don't really go. From what I grasp of your posts you are in a bit of a holding pattern with adding to your wardrobe, so with that in mind I would definitely keep this. It's cute and you seem to be fond of it, and lord knows if it's still snowing in April you need sweaters. Here's a casual girl *fist bump* by the way.

I like the concept of this outfit (colors, silhouttes, boots) butI find the proportion of the sweater off. It's too short. I think it's a skirt sweater, but that doesn't seem practical in 30 degree weather.

Malina, I'm sorry that you are feeling like an outsider looking in! It does seem like it's been crazy-busy around here lately, with threads flying off of the first page in no time, lots of turnover, lots of new people, etc. I have found it a bit disorienting, and I haven't just moved across the country :). And I do see what you mean about more casual looks getting short shrift sometimes...Anyway, I hope you continue to participate and show off your fab wintery WIWs!!

About this look (thanks for gamely trying it out with a longer layer!): I think you are pulling off this short cream sweater better than most would, but I'm liking Una's idea of the even longer top underneath, to make it seem sort of deliberately short over long, if that makes sense and tickles your fancy. Whaddya think? Otherwise I could see this sweater with a skirt of some sort maybe, to keep it out of the donate pile.

I found one wonderful example of a cream coloured sweater with a black leather skirt, posted by Christy last fall...scroll through and look at photo #3:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....what-didnt

I could have sworn that Patience bought this same sweater and possibly also paired it with leather of some kind, but I can't find the the thread. In any case, you get the general idea - your ivory sweater (even though it's a slightly different style than the Only Mine slouchy version) will look amazing with skirts.

In the meantime, I'm nodding my head along with Marianna - you look very good in this cozy, casual and stylish outfit for running errands. A whole lot better than me in my simple (frumpy) button-down shirt, skinnies and flats for my grocery errands today!

Do you have many skirts? I'm thinking that some of your shorter tops and sweaters are going to need some skirts.

I think it's really cute and probably a cut above what everyone else had on. Granted I have not been skiing in 20 years. I think this was a good way to make a short sweater work. And under-layer that matches the sweater exactly might look even better. Plus, if you had a coat over top that was at least half-way done up, no one in town would have been the wiser. I'm sorry if I've missed any of your posts! I've only seen a few since you got settled back in at home.

I don't see any problem with this outfit either -- I think it looks cute and definitely better than Uggs and fleece. I do like Una's suggestion about trying a cami that matches the sweater.

Okay, I have one more suggestion (sorry if someone already made it).. how about a matching cami beneath to extend the illusion of length with the sweater? That might distract from the too-short effect and make it really awesome. Or a tunic-y top with a long hem to give it a deliberately cropped (short over long) feel.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think for casual running errands, this outfit totally works. It's warm and cozy and I don't really see anything wrong with it. Sure it's not super trendy or edgy, but that's okay... running to the post office doesn't call for cutting edge fashion. You look good.

I like the pants, and the colours you've chosen - but I'm not 100% certain about this particular sweater with pants. When I see this lovely cream sweater, I can't help but think of those leather skirts that were quite popular around here during the last NAS and early fall-season. The idea of pairing super-soft (like your sweater) with something like a leather skirt seems like a good idea to me. It's a gorgeous sweater, just that I am not sure about pairing it with pants, jeans or casual skinnies. I have a feeling though, that this soft ivory sweater might look just *fab* with an edgier leather skirt, come next fall/winter. What do you think?

In fact, I think there was a sweater that looked great with a leather skirt last fall - I believe the brand was "Only Mine" and it was a softer/oatmeal-ish colour, and paired with a really sharp looking black leather skirt, the whole ensemble was amazing. I don't have a link/thread handy, but do you remember what I mean? If not, I can go and look up examples.

In the meantime the ivory sweater with the grey-ish/olive-ish pants and cami is a beautiful combination. I love those colours together, and the only thing that makes me hesitate is the length of the sweater in combination with pants. That said, this sweater will be beautiful with a skirt, so don't go purging it or anything! Hang onto it

Oh no Una, on the contrary, you are the only one who responded at first!! I was merely thinking that if I were wearing a certain brand pencil skirt the ooh and ahhs would be forthcoming and plenty. I probably am just being moody. And I'll admit it's easier to say you like how something looks than to suggest why a look is off or how to fix it. It's more work to respond. But I find those kinds of responses invaluable, whereas hearing I look good is very nice, but not very educational I very much value both your opinion and honesty when it's asked for!! Keep it coming!

I think this is a cute outfit. My problem is that I am new at YLF and dont really know much about clothing and style. If I dont have a suggestion to improve then I usually dont comment and sometimes I just dont have time. I am sorry that you feel like an outsider because I see you as one of veterans.
I totally agree that when we are not looking fab, we need somebody to tell us that.

And if you're looking for suggestions, I totally agree with Elly. I think of you every single time I look at the Sundance catalog, and there is almost nothing in there of which you could not find a cheaper version somewhere else. Case in point:

Hey Mo, I hope I wasn't the one who set off your rant with my response! I love your casual looks and would not blink at this outfit if I saw you out and about.

I live in a totally casual environment (a sea of Danskos and Merrells and Uggs!), and trust me when I say you all don't see at least 60% of my outfits, which are so casual they would be gear anywhere else. I don't bother posting those outfits because 1) I know they are not up to YLF par and 2) realistically, I'm not going to change them regardless of feedback. I usually only post WIWs when I'm either completely lost and needing guidance, or utterly thrilled and hoping for ego-boosting reinforcement.

I am ALL about evaluating casual outfits in the hopes that I can stealthily improve my own looks and then post them as if I'd been casually fab all along!

Don't feel like you're an outsider - I think of you as a kindred soul!
