love the kimono! great pattern & texture with your hair. When I saw your title "temperature swings" I immediately thought of my the internal swingy hotness! thank goodness for layers!

Joy, I absolutely believe it! As Marina pointed out, cold is relative. (And, I should mention, mid-50s are perfectly reasonable temps for summer nights in Colorado. I get grouchy when it doesn't drop below 65 at night!)

Brooklyn, what you can't really see about the kimono is that it's accented with sequins! I'm not a big sequin person, but I find it interestingly maximal.

My grandfather used to tell about a friend whose brother lived in Alaska. One year he decided to go south to spend the winter in Nebraska. After about a month, he had to return to Alaska because he could not take the Nebraska cold.

Wind will always decrease the thermal sensation and Sun will always increase it, but humidity produces different effects for different temperatures. Our warm/cold feeling is actually quite subjective because we don't really have a thermometer inside to tell the temperature. What we feel is how much effort our body is doing to produce or lose heat and keep our temperatures constant. Moist air transfers heat faster than dry air, so when we have lots of humidity in cold temperatures, we lose heat faster than we would with dry air, so we feel like it is colder - because our bodies need to make some extra effort to compensate the difference. When you have humidity in high temperatures, the process is quite different because our bodies aren't concerned about producing heat, they are trying to lose it faster. If temperatures are high and we can't lose heat fast enough even with humidity help, we start perspiring more - because when perspiration evaporates it takes heat away. But humidity makes it harder for perspiration to evaporate, so we need to perspire more than we would in dry conditions, and that makes us feel like it is hotter than it really is :)

Marina, it is fascinating, isn't it? I think humidity has a lot to do with it. I remember often feeling bone-deep cold during winter in Seattle, but here in Colorado, I can easily handle temps thirty or forty degrees lower!

Well, warm and cold are actually very relative. Temperature and thermal sensation are not the same things as you said, and what we call warm/cold varies a lot from one person to another too. I find this fascinating actually (I'm a meteorologist after all). And I really envy you, because I hate feeling cold and I'm always feeling its cold *lol (really, I almost never feel hot).

From late autumn to early spring we have some days with 50 and so mornings and 80F afternoons around here too. I usually wear a wool coat or leather jacket and a scarf over short sleeves, jeans and boots on these days (even for walking, with no wind and lots of Sun). I would never be able to use your outfit at this sort of temperature - but I loved it, so I would probably use it at 90F to stay outdoors :)

Love your kimono topper and the mix of prints on it. Perfect over a column of black. Today I am also wearing a column of black with a light chambray button down dress over it. Still working on wearing summer dresses.

Gorgeous, Jenn. We are having the same sort of weather and the high depends on the sun. The last week has been grey skied because of smoke from fires in Montana and other places further west. I need to hang kimono type toppers front and center and plan outfits around them. Layers!

Laura G and Marina, you two crack me up. I will say that 53° on a dry, sunny day that's on its way up to 90° is way different than 53° on a windy, drizzly day in March. I tend to run hot, though, and the kimono was just fine for the block or so I needed to walk to get to the coffee shop.

LisaP, the silk on this tank is SO GOOD. I'm hoping the washed silk blouse I ordered from GH is the same fabric. Thank you for the hair compliment. I really really really need to make a decision on whether I'm keeping the bangs. I'm afraid I've put off a trim for too long in my indecision.

Thanks, y'all. The kimono was a wild card from last fall, and it's turned out to be a great transitional topper--warm enough to keep the chill off and light enough to protect from summer sun.
