I hear you Celia! I wear my skinnies far more than anything else, and I have found that normal bootcuts just don't appeal to me any more BUT flares really do. So I tossed all my bootcuts and just kept my two pairs of baggy flared jeans, one darker for fall and one lighter for spring. I wear them with heeled footwear ONLY. FWIW, I think you look great in both skinny and bootcut jeans. I think I'd like to see either a longer loose top like this or a more fitted top with this pair though.

Celia, you rock skinnies and straight legs but I like you in boot cuts too. I think it's either a case of being too much your own worst critic, or that it takes a while for your eye to adjust to wearing wider pants or jeans after being used to a skinny jean silhouette.

I think that if you paired these boot cuts with a shorter top, ending higher (at a narrower part) on the hip, and added a shoe with a slight heel your perception of this pair of jeans could change a lot. I notice I'm liking my boot cuts with tucked in tops or very fitted sweaters and reserve longer tops like this one for skinny jeans. Just my 2 cents though.

(Miss you too!)

I thought I was supposed to wear bootcuts because I was short...and busty...but you know what? I usually prefer skinnies 90% of the time! I just love them, and the heck with "balance." I'm sure you look great in them, with the bootcuts as a nice alternative now and then.

thank you ladies.
As it happens right now I am happy with the blue jeans selection in my wardrobe.
This poor pair is very badly portraited in this photo with no other item of clothing helping it.And i wear them only for something very casual like going to the playground or other DD related activities where there is a potential for dirt.

while I was reading your comments a light bulb apeared in my head.
another reason why bootcuts are not working is because I should be wearing petite sizes on it.wearing regular sizes just messes with the leg line.

Celia, I have had the same concerns!

I agree with Angie that I prefer boot cuts with a bit of a heel or more substantial shoe. Flats look best with straights and skinnies.

I think with bootcuts, having the right shoe really does make a huge difference. Just enough height and, as others mentioned, substantial enough. And perhaps a different top would help this look along as well. Don't give up on your bootcuts just yet!

Celia I used to be this way and so often fell back into the same discontented feelings which I attributed to my body, only to discover that once I got rid of the ill-fitting clothes, gone was the ill-fitted feeling.

I have a long rise and short legs, so a lot of bootcut style bother me too! But there are so many styles of jeans out there that I just avoid them I don't think these look bad on you, a heeled shoe would definitely elevate the look though.

Celia, a great fitting pair of bootcuts is as cool as a great pair of straight legs or skinnies. At first I jumped on the skinny bandwagon because I was tired with wider jeans and trousers I wore all my life when I was hiding my body. However after a year in skinnies I felt a need to get a bootcut pair and now I got a pair of flares too. I guess I like to have the variety of shapes so I don't get bored with the same style.
BTW I have a pear-ish bottom too and I cannot really wear skinny jeans because they are too tight and I cannot get my calves into them but I wear straight jeans which look like skinnies on me.

krishnidoux you reminded me that i need to buy some converse because that will give me the thickness you are talking about.
Also I am a very bad purger of so and so items. I keep trying to make them work and end up wearing them more than my good items.
jayne, hurray for pears indeed.:)
I mention this often, my mother was a bigger size than me since I hit puberty, however she was always much more daring and stylish when it comes to clothes. The big thing she had in her favour was the fact that she never made any excuses for the size or shape she is.

Hi

I am with you! I also disagree with the advice that pears need to wear boot or wide legs pants. I love wearing skinnies and if the world is offended by my wide end and thighs, they will have to deal with it. I don't want to hide just because my proportions don't fit the ideal. I love seeing even bigger women sporting brights tights, fitted dresses and looking fab doing the best they can with what they have. So hurrah for pears!

Angie's advice to wear heavier or thicker shoes with boot-cut jeans is a very good one. Even a little heel helps.

I am with you! I understand what you mean. I have found I've had this feeling with jeans that were not well cut or were ill-fitted. In which case I got rid of the offending pair as quickly as I could, even if it meant I had to wear skirts for a while. I find it very difficult to find a well fitting, well cut pair of boot-cut jeans.

I think you're right --- you might be rather more concerned about your hip/legs ratio than the average bystander, because the average bystander (read: me) is more concerned about her own! ;-)

I don't suppose there are other things to consider (besides hips)... I'm not loving these bootcuts on you, although I think the top is too loose for these jeans and the jeans bag at the knee a bit (so maybe a different brand bootcut would look different). You don't look pear shaped to me, btw, in this photo. Curvy, yes, but your shoulders look balanced to me with your hips.

Being s pear shaped person I was always told that bootcuts were the best way to balance my hips.
But since way back when I started posting outfits I began to look at my body differently. And start loving skinny jeans better.
I know that with skinnies you can see how big my hips are but you can also see that the legs tapper back to normalcy from there. In bootcuts(with flats) I feel the viewer is kept wondering if the legs are that size all the way down.
Or maybe this is just me and people don't spend somuch time wondering about my hip/legs ratio as I do.
By the way, this jeans are ppl although they don't look like it.
Comments, opinions, votes and reasonings for skinnies or bootcuts are welcome.
Thank you for looking.
