OMG and you did it for me, I feel so special now!!! Thanx so much Brooklyn!!! These were all a feast to my eyes!!! I don't know how you do it ---You can always twist your palette so that it looks true to your curent inspirations (now the blues and greens again) but still can incorporate your older things and stay true to yourself!! Love all that glam and luxury which shine trough all these outfits--especially that they are casual ones. Happy dance!!! Thanx again!!!!

Nice to see this post again, such beautiful colours. I thought of you today Brooklyn when I wore what I think of as my teal duster, although our receptionist called it a different colour- it’s a darkish green which can look black on screens.
Thanks to Val above too for her thoughts- now I think about it I might have called the skirt detail a yoke too?

Hi, I am new here, maybe this can help with basque confusion:

In sewing terms, basque is a flap of fabric that is on the top part of the skirt, attached at the waist but separate from the rest. Or it can be part of the jacket. like this:

https://tollydollyposhfashion......sque-2.png

I also saw the word peplum to describe this. It indeed resembles the lower part of the corset staying off the body.

the detail on the skirt in Suz's post is "yoke".

Thanks JAileen. I googled it and it seems to be a French term that references a type of corset that used to be worn that extends past the waist over the hips. I think I prefer the term “basque” to “drop waist” because to me “drop waist” evokes the 20s style drop waist dress which tends to be loose from waist to hips.

And thanks Bella.

The colors are just gorgeous. After reading Suz’ skirt post I was puzzled - “Basque skirt.” I’ve never heard of this before. I’ve seen drop waist skirts before. Is this a common term? Is it referencing their traditional dress? I’ve been to the Basque festival here in town, but I don’t remember the women’s skirts.

So inspiring, as usual! Your inspiration pics are so beautiful, and your renditions are spot-on! The skirts are perfect (so chic yet so practical for hot summer!), and your eye for color is exquisite. I love seeing all of your handiwork, as well as the before and after pics from OG; I am inspired to dye a few pairs of cotton pants this spring. Not sure of the colors yet (probably one a murky blue-green, and maybe a second in a murky brown-pink, following your and OG's leads). I have been a little obsessed with greens and blues lately, since I ordered this sweater (below), which reminds me of some of the paintings from Helen Frankenthaler (also below).

Oh wow OG! What a BIG improvement! I would be thrilled with that result.

BTW, I found a product called colour catcher. It’s basically a piece of paper that you put in the washing machine when washing items that aren’t colour fast. It attracts the excess dye (you dispose of it after). It’s easy and it works well. I still wouldn’t wash a dyed item with a white item. But when doing a coloured wash it does help to protect the colour of each item.

Thanks Bonnie!

Thanks Suz. We are on the same wavelength! I like that style too. Over Summer I saw box pleat skirts that were as you describe. The pleats sewn in. I found one at Zara but it didn’t work for me. But the style is so much easier to wear than a regular pleated skirt. I ended up buying a pleated (maternity?) dress at a thrift store that had the same style of (stitched) pleats and turning that it into a skirt. It took some work! I haven’t worn it yet because it’s a heavy linen (I think: no label) and dark green. But it should work for Autumn and Spring. I have also seen similar style skirts in a mini style. Hopefully it will be a trend that works its way into midis.

Fabulous, as ever! I understand why this style of skirt would appeal so much! I also struggle with skirts that are full from the waist. I wear them (some) and like some of them -- if the fit is just so. But easier, I find are lpleats that are stitched down at the top (on skirts, especially -- less important on pants) and skirts/ dresses that have the drop waist effect. These are also a great length. Easy to move in, but lots of coverage from the sun.

I like these especially with the cropped tops -- nice proportions, and a beautiful showcase for your accessories.

These are beautiful colour combinations. Wherever you are, it is Morocco!

I have a lot of gold in the wardrobe mix right now, so warm undertones work well.
I am probably a warm Autumn, but your colours are all very attractive to anyone who enjoys muted or muddy tonal matches.
What Jaime said!

Coming back to say: top in 16 is 2:1 taupe to marigold. Skirt in 16 is 1:1 taupe to marigold. If you are willing to dye your own clothes it’s easy to create graduated versions of the same colours that pair well together. DIY ombré.

Thanks FC and NancyW. The mesh top is cotton. It’s a great way to add some texture. The underneath top is teal so it creates a nice connection with the skirt.

Thanks Kate.

Thanks Angie. The drop waist thing seems to be a bit of a trend here. Not only in skirts but in dresses. (Lots of fitted sleeveless bodice dresses with drop waist flared skirts.) But alas I still did not find “my” dress. Yay for team solids and team accessories :)

Thanks Roberta. That’s a lovely description. Makes me feel like I’m on holiday somewhere exotic.

Thanks Jen. That’s a good pairing for me because the warm colour is near my face. Of course, if you prefer cool tones, it’s easy to flip it and wear the cool tone on top. The advantages of separates!

Thanks RobinF. It’s a good formula for me. The inside of my wardrobe is looking very neat and ordered too because of the uniformity of shapes and the graduation of solid colours. Almost like a shop!

Thanks OG. I am pleased that you are giving it a whirl! But you have to expect some surprises, ha ha. I find RIT marigold a little too bright for me, but your feelings may differ. I usually muddy it with camel or taupe. The marigold skirt in 16 and the tops in 16 and 17 are mixtures of marigold and taupe. The taupe gives a little bit of a green undertone to the marigold, towards a golden olive colour (although not quite as green).

I hereby crown you Queen BASQUE Skirt! Such a pretty and fun '80s flashback that you wear with verve, ease and elegance!

Another set of KILLER FAB looks, and I expected nothing less, Brooklyn! All beautifully proportioned, polished, and FINISHED OFF! An important, yet often ignored part of outfit creation. You have that down pat, and it MAKES your look :)

Go Team Solid! Welcome!

My fave is like yours! #4! LOVE a tonal column of colour that is non-neutral. #12 is my next fave. Like the twinset effect of top and bag.

Please carry on!

Colors are wonderful on you, but the color combinations are what set these outfits apart. Just masterful and inspiring. Your use of mesh for summer layering have me hmmming along with Olive Green.

I just have to say, you have a GIFT. What an eye for color, texture, and proportion! These collections make me think of ancient Greece and Crete, long sunwashed paths to the sea, and bread, cheese, and olives for lunch.

Your colors are always gorgeous. It’s interesting to me that I like 10 the best. That warm/cool pairing really speaks to me.

All wonderful as usual! I love that first teal look, the color is great on you. You manage to get so much variety from basically the same silhouette! Impressive!

Ah, just picked up some dye yesterday, you had recommended rose quartz and cocoa brown for a lovely pinky brown colour. Also got some Marigold. Today will dye some thrifted linen blouses and one pair of cotton capris and see what happens.
And you will never catch me in a basque skirt because tummy, but the mesh tops are getting some hmmms from me.
You are quite inspiring!
