Looks good. I like your idea of trying it with lighter coloured boots. I also struggle with "dressing up", mainly with a dress. I only have one and worn it once, its not dressy, yet I always feel it not right to wear it for everyday activities.

Women used to say, "Oh, this old thing? I just threw this on".
Why should we have to explain trying to look nice when we go out?
I can remember my first airplane ride when I was about 7 or 8. This would have been 1965, I think. My mom dressed me in a nice dress with patent leather shoes and gloves. I believe she wore a hat.
Now, I just feel glad if the the guy next to me has a shirt with sleeves.

I've found that I have to change my own thoughts about what "dressing up" really is. Now if someone says "Why are you dressed up?" (of course, I still rarely am dressed up, just more well dressed than before) I say something like, I just wanted to feel good today and this makes me feel good! (with a big smile of course).

I love this outfit on you!

And I totally get the whole feeling too dressed up thing - I have been trying to get myself out of that rut myself. I have also had the kids saying things like "where are you going, mom?" when I make the effort to get dressed for a normal day.

Keep at it! I love the beltless idea!

Nice, chic ensemble for running errands. I'm like Ceit; I probably would leave off the belt and the necklace for a more casual vibe, but I'm totally into waist surrender and jewelry, especially necklaces. signal more formal to me.

ETA: Brown boots might look really nice too, with your hair color especially.

I think it looks great! To make it less dressy I would not wear the belt or necklace, but I have lately really gone away from jewellery, so that is just my eye talking.

Thanks for the inputs thus far. I like both the shorter jacket idea and looking at it again without the belt/longer pendant. I'm thinking I may also prefer my camel-colored boots vice the dark brown...maybe with blue leggings to brighten things up a bit? I'm going to retry soon with a few tweaks. Thanks! This WIW sharing really helps!

Hey, I like this outfit! The tunic, leggings and boots are very fab on you. There is nothing at all wrong with looking stylish and put together for everyday. Why not, when you have nice things to wear?

If you are looking for something to change, what about a shorter jacket without the belt?

I think once you start getting dressed in real clothes when you go out, instead of work out clothes, this will start to feel "normal" to you and you will feel "dressed", not "dressed up".

What is wrong with being "dressed up", anyway?

It's really not the same as overdressed.

I think it looks great! Leggings and boots are not too dark. I like the belt with it as it adds some structure, but if you feel like it looks too "planned", how does it look without the belt? It appears that the jacket has enough of a defined waist that it could perhaps do the work of the belt in adding just enough structure? You could also leave off the necklace or swap it out for a longer, simpler pendant. These are just suggestions for making it a bit simpler, you might feel less "contrived", but I think it looks great as is!

Hello again! You all gave such wonderful inputs on my first WIW, I'm ready to post a second. I wore this to a spa appointment/running errands on Saturday. This was "uber" dressed for me. In the past, I'd be looking like I was headed to or coming from the gym. Getting dressed for regular life activities vice an event is new to me. I still feel way overdressed and a bit uncomfortable (have spent way too much time in yoga pants!). Case in point...as I prepared to leave the house my daughter asked, "Mom, why are you so dressed up?" I'm trying.... The more I look at this outfit, the less I like it. Something just seems off...too "planned" maybe or too many horizontal lines? Maybe the tunic is too short to wear with leggings or the leggings/boots are too dark for me. Hmmmmm...just not feeling fab. Any thoughts about what to change?
